I don't have one, but has anyone noticed that this car looks an awful lot like the ABC DTM car?
It's distributed by horizon who also distributes ABC, and RCCA conveniently left the ABC car out of the Comparo section, even though it is the only car out there now that is directly comparable, it being a 1/24 scale pancar with a ball diff. . . .
anyone got hard facts about this one?
I'd bet that a lot of the upgrades horizon has for the car are the aluminum and graphite parts that come standard on the DTM-SP kit.

I am a hard core 1/24 scale car fan! I just bought my first one tuesday so I may not know as much as other people that have been into it for a while but I have some connections to people that are obsessed in it and have been for a while. The way that I see it about the micro RS4 and 1/24 scale cars are bought in certian areas according to the attitude of the local hobby shop toward them, such as my hobby shop (Prime Time Hobbys, Calhoun, GA) has a track and several people that are obsessed in the 1/24 scale racing.

Here is my overview of the three most intersting 1/24 scale cars

MINI-Z
The MZ's have a TON of hop ups avaliable! Mike, a obsessed 1/24 scale racer at Prime Time, has the coolest MZ that I have ever seen, I would wager that it could beat a 1/10th scale electric car on a full size track, not a suped up one of corse but you get what I am saying.

ROCKET RACER
Mike even aggrees that the RR is better than the MZ after a coupe of hop ups mainly due to the fact that the RR can house a 180scale motor, the size the RS4 uses, CHECK OUT MY SETUP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE!. The RR also has more room for batteries, front wheel suspention along with rear suspention, lexan body (you can buy clear ones), and is dirt cheap right now due to the fact that Dynamite is discountinuing them because they are not selling as well as they had hoped (mainly due to the fact that they are slow out of the box and the crappy looks of the radio, plus most 1/24 scale fans already had a MZ)

MINI-X
The MX has not been released at the moment but it should not be much longer. Here are a few specs of the MX, 1/24 scale, 4 wheel suspention, 4 wheel drive, tiny electronics all positioned in the front so plenty of room for extra batteries it appears like, stock rubber tires with threads, clear lexan body, accepts almost all 1/24 size bodys (even MZ's and model car bodys!!!!), comes in a RTR kit, RTR w/o radio, and car with wheels, tires, and clear body. go to
microrcracing.tripod.com/minix4wd.htm
for more details.

Until I get a Mini-X to compair the Rocket Racer to, the Rocket Racer is the best in my book. So here it is:

My Rocket Racer set-up
McLaren F1 body in the mail
NSX body on it now
HPI Micro RS4 motor
Stock batteries for now, working on some seceret stuff with Mark
Foam bumper
Foam tires
painted black wheels
Bearing kit in the mail

i was also interested in maybe getting one. What can you say about the performance of the rocket racer?

If you want maximum performance at this scale get a DTM-SP for $75 then get your electronics. (novak Spy and XXL are all the hype and performance) Although I have modified my RR to the point that the only way to recgonize it is the front stearing. I removed the upper deck completely and set my electonics in the center of the chassie with the batteries split out on the sides. The RR's will take a beating though, there very tough. I have had mine since that tuesday mentiond above and it is still suprising me. The DTM-SP is basicly what my RR is now, just without the better stearing but I am used to the RR's stearing now and I can drift that rear end now...complete 180 whenever I want without damaging the servo or anything.

If you don't want to spend the extra cash on the Spy and reciver (I use a standard reciver, not a mini, and it works just fine) then get the RR. Good luck.

PS dont get a Mini-Z, they dont even have a real servo. Controle on those things is a joke compared to the DRR.

Out of the box and with a new servo and motor, hpi modified, how would the DRR fare up with a micro and a mini z in several types of raciing?

You wont need a new servo with the DRR, it comes with a good one. Its just the way that the wheels turn that is improved on the DTM-SP. With a HPI motor, 4 of the Rayovak 700mAh AAA batteries from walmart, and some foams the DRR will out perform both of those easily no matter what your doing.

Anyone else with one of these or an update with theirs? Are there any problems that people should know about?

phueeeee..I just finished my experemental pack that converts from 4 cells to 7 just by pluging them up...man was it hard to solder. BUT, I did buy a stock pile of flux, it probably took a 1/2oz to do one pack. SO, I can now have my 4cells for the little track at the LHS and my 7 for racing micros at the far away track. W00T...hehe, thats my first time to say w00t..lol ANYWAY! I am selling these batteries, 2/3a 1100mAh (just like in the mRS4 packs from the big companys), in any style you want. BUT, since it took me around 4 hours to make the one mentioned above, the 4 to 7 quick connect, I have not set a price on making "Qucik ConnectŠ" packs.

the way that the pack I made for myself works is 4 cells slide between the upper and lower decks in the rear of the car, then you can add the other 3 cells by putting the directly over the others with the upper deck between the actual batteries, I CANT WAIT TO TRY 'EM OUT!!!

BTW: I do not include the battery connectors, unless 1.asked before hand and 2. include $3 extra to the orginal price, otherwise I will just leave the positive and negitvie leads alone.
