Hong Nor Tarantula/OFNA Titan Monster Truck is that the same truck and do you think that that big of a truck would brake more like a MP with those huge tires and when you jump it that the momentum of the tires would screw it up in the air

I called Ofna yesterday and all the told me was that it was coming out in a couple months, no other information. Does any one else have pictures or any specs on the Titan?

A buddy of mine in my club has a really good conection at ofna and he says that they have a demo truck in there hands, and he is saying its bigger than the monster pirate and will tell us more after they run it.

They have it on tower hobbies now. $989.99 I hope that price goes down. Here's a link to it:OFNA Titan (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p.pgm?Q=1&I=LXDBU6&P=7)

Hey, if you backorder it a that price and the price drops before they send you one, how much do you end up paying?

moep
08-24-2002, 05:13 PM
humm...

Tower's Low Price 989.99

of course, tower always specifies the prices 100-200 $ higher than they will actually cost when stocking, but 800$ is still a bit much for this truck, isn't it?

RC Jack
08-24-2002, 11:47 PM
Someone said in another post that Tower, even before the truck is released, posts the list price. I can't believe this truck will be nearly $1,000!! Considering that the new T-Maxx will be about the same price as the old T, at $1,000 each, they won't sell many!! How many 7/11's are people gonna hafta knock over to get one?:D

Possumbot
08-25-2002, 03:54 PM
isnt this the titan? probably 500 600 for 1, ofna isnt stupid enough to sell a truck for 1000.

fastruck
08-26-2002, 02:31 AM
the ek4 with a .70(biger than .25) sells for 499 and it is not RTR but with the radio servos make it run is not even close to that price $989.00.

and the Madforce is $449 and with combo pack it is only 559
agin not even close to the titan.

600 will sound better for this truck.

maybey that they ?(LOL) goin to have the 4 stoke version in the usa one day and that will cost $1000.

but 989 maybe thats a error in price it's not advertise on ofna site like the dominator RTR is.

just a though to exersize the brain.

RC Jack
08-26-2002, 12:53 PM
If that $989 is not an error, there may be a lot of divorces over this one!:D

Granted, the Titan is really.....spiffy, that's just waaaay too much money, considering it's made in a country where labor & manufacturing rates are extremely low! Making a profit is one thing, laughing all the way to the bank is quite another!!

I agree with Possombot, Tower tends to throw out a price (usually MSRP) and then later the actual price is much lower. Don't bother comparing the Titan to the "new" Tmaxx, all of the eye candy aluminum upgrades are stock on the Titan, along with the high torque steering servo, cva's, slipper, 3.2 mm plates. You get what you pay for. I suspect the retail will be in the $600-$700 range but will probably drop with time.

Just look at the Dominator. It start on Tower for $650 I believe, and now it's down to $550. Or you could go to Ace and get it for $475. What ever the reason for the price, that things looks wicked! It looks much stronger than the Maxx, and simple plastic wrap cover around the gears will keep the dust and dirt away.

Anyone know if they are going to use better diffs? Or the same one's that kept snapping in the Monster Pirate?

robc
09-27-2002, 12:07 AM
First off, the Titan is made for Ofna by HONG NOR, the Monster Pirate is made for Ofna by HO BAO so they share no parts. Second, the diff problem is ancient history. My original diffs are a year old, 3 gallons through them, and beaten regularly. The Dominator has alum. diff cases, and these can be put in a MP for $12 each.

drader
09-27-2002, 12:17 AM
I ask because Ace told me the newish cast aluminum cases work fine with Dom tires, but shred with the bigger MP tires. The only option is the $99 CNC diffs, and you need 2.

Titan weighs 3 lbs more, much heavier duty truck, way better shocks (aluminum vs plastic), better and stronger steering servo( 144 oz vs the 90 oz Savage servo). Only upgrade the Titan needs is a FM radio. More expensive than the Savage but you get what you pay for.

Folks me and my buddy was at the hobby shop the other day and i must say the truck looks good like the old school crushers. we both wanted to buy one but the price is to high. i never would have thought that ofna would put such a high price tag on one of their kits; i mean they usually give you your money worth, they must be under new management, like some one from tower hobbies or kyosho. so we both said down credit cards down, so we decided to wait and see what the savage & monster-gt looks like in person, they are in our price range. SORRY OFNA YOU DON'T GET OUR MONEY THIS TIME.

I am going to pick up my Titan tommrow...figure 620 bucks is worth it because its already a BIG block, mostly aluminum, a 2 speed, good servos, and a fail safe all standard. Just wondering about the 2 speed...is it a smaller pinion and larger spur gear for top speed or the other way around...i can't WAIT!!!!
Thanks for the help!

Tower's Price is steep $720 puts it out of my reach for now. I've seen ads for $599 RTR. I'd still like to see an 80% w/ or w/o engine just to lower the initial hit on the CC and be able to choose my own servos and radio. If they release a version with engine for around the same cost as the Mad Force or w/o engine for less I’ll probity jump on it.

Take a T-Maxx or Savage add 4 aluminum shock and you’re getting cost to $500, you can get an EK4 for $500 but you still need radio/servos and starter. So a $600 price tag on the Titan isn’t all that bad but $700…

Hopefully they will drop in price.

Hopefully they will drop in price. The ek4 sucks because of the high price with no radio gear, and it only hit willies. the titan it takes off real fast and by keeping all four tires on the ground and has great top speed. it also has to great of a top price for me. have fun pops and all who buy's one.ps and it sits up like an real monster; no flat pan like the ek4. by for now ALUMINUM CRUSHER...

The Titan, like the Dominator and many other Ofna kits, will be available as a rolling chassis and as an 80% (ie: engine, but no radio).
Look for the rolling chassis to be somewhere in the $400 ish range.
This is the option i will seriously be considering since I have three good FM radios and a NIB Force .25. All I'll need is a good strong steering servo to be good to go.

I understand your logic here on the EK4. Now I have to say I'm a pround owner of a EK4 with the following upgrades
1. MSJ starter
2. MSJ Head
3. 18 tooth clutch bell
4. monster pirate wheels and foam (for looks)
It is the best example of why I bought a nitro monster truck that I have come across. I used to have monster pirate with a metal two speed and super hot motor (G-1 picco) but then a guy showed up to my local BMX track and he let me drive his stock EK4. I lost my mind and sold my Monster pirate and my .21 T-maxx. I was the same guy that seen the Nitro magazine's movie and said "it wasn't anything I didn't aready have with my MP" But once I took her around the track a few times. All of that changed and now I have my EK4. It has had it's problems like any new MT. But the new Version twos have been a huge sucess story up to this point. At this point I'm runing real crazy with no problems!

I ran with a Titan the other day! That is one of the best trucks on the market with out question. It is beyond belief how well that huge truck performs. I even got to swap remotes with the owner. It was kinda funny becuase he fell in love with my Ek4 just as I did with the Titan. I can honestly say that the Titan is a very strong argument for me to get yet another RC! I have to say that it would not be easy to compare the EK4 to the Titan. Do you want a truck that will tower over everything and have the agility of a cat? or do you want a huge well balanced truck that has the most power you can even imagine in a nitro? I have to say you would have to drive them to decide. I would hate to have to choose. I'm just going to have them both (if my christmas sucking up works out!) The Titan would be the best bang for the buck right out of the box if you ask me. But then again your going to hop it up anyway so once again we have a pardox! LOL! both trucks are Bada$$ period! Drive hard which ever one you decide!

The only think that I did with my new titan was 2-speed, it was set that truck was only on 2-nd gear, with motor I just add one more shim for had and am running 30% mugen fuel and runs very good is rich but it runs good. Once is cold I have some problems to start, I have to open some gas.
It has good take off and runs very nice – I just love that truck.

hey,

i dont really want to bring the Titan into this forum, but there are no other forums. I am going to buy a new MT, but i cant decide on which one. I have it down to the Savage and Titan. They both sound like very nice trucks. Mostly what i want in a truck is the best suspension from the factory, a very quick truck with reasonable amount of top speed, one that handles great, and a reliable truck. I want this stuff from the factory because i will not be able to do many upgrades for a while. The types of driving i will be doing include: any kind of off-road bashing, jumps, maybe a few races, and just driving around on the roads. that is why i want good suspension, torque, and speed. I have considered the new T, but it does not sound reliable (a-arms breaking, plastic gears breaking). i will most likely be waiting for the Monster GT, but i am trying to figure out which is better for me now.

P.S. The same message is in the Savage forum so i can get most responses

It the TITAN RTR the best Nitro Monster Truck since sliced bread. The RCCA guys that did the test drive of the Titan liked it alot. The only things they didn't like was the weak brake servo and the light bar blocking the glow plug access.

I saw the titan in person it is small (but has a huge engine) onroad type tires way over priced for what it is and it is SMALL mush smaller than you think:(

misio
12-07-2002, 03:42 PM
“ONROAD TYPE TIRES WAY OVER PRICED” I didn’t know they call them on road?
As far as size it is abuts the size of Terra Crusher, it is bigger then Ek4, or dominator, or Monster Pirate, or Savage or traxxas. The main size different is how height is the truck. Ofna Titan is much higher then any other truck on the market, if you add wheels adapter it will be 1 inch wider then Terra Crusher (wheel adapters helps a lot).
In January Ofna will make new Titan that will be abut 3-4 inches longer and they will have upgrade kit, with that kit The Titan will be the biggest truck on the market.
With all this biggest you can easy put .70 in the titan but then you may (you will) have different problems like blow dif and, engine problems , but it will go whelles like Ek4.

I had Ek4 with .70 and I sold for Titan and am very happy with my new truck.
So far I have, abut 2 gallons of 30% mugen racing fuel on my Titan and runs very good, the only think that I replace is:
1-cvd
2-dif bearings
3-4 bumpers (am not so easy on my trucks)
and at list 5 new bodies, and one body mount.

So you can see for 2 gallons of fuel and jumping, running on parking lot and off road in the park, running in big snow that not so much for replacement or repair.

As far as upgrades I did:

-Aluminum clutch shoes
-servo for brakes
-wheels adapters (from ek4 or any 17 mm adapters from eBay)
-upgrade trany with style gears 51-48 (stock clutch belt – I find out if I put bigger clutch belt I burn shoes even aluminum very fast)
-slipper clutch is off
-Rb one-piece pipe 086 with power adapter.
-Jr MRX3I fm
-battery pack

I will have some more photos to show you how Titan looks compeering to other trucks.
;) ;) ;) :o

But the guy doesn't bash as hard as I would like. So I would really like to see some vids on the Titan. I don't think the OFNA vids do this thing justice. So I ask you Titaniacs to post some vids of your rig getting down!!

hey! i am thinking of getting one of these but i dont know its between this and the ofna 9.5 buggy. i wont be on rough terrain, mostly grass, dirt and sand. im not into the whole "crawling" thing...but i do love to jump. my question is, is the buggy or the titan better at jumping? i know the titan has two shocks per corner, but it is also heavier. its also like 150 bucks more, so whats your opinions guys? i might also do some hill climbing but it wont be like tall grass or climbing over logs or anything..just hauling up steep hills and possibly jumping the peak

ahhh the titan is too fast for me :D i gotta get used to it ........it crashed in to a parked car today i got it up to a pretty good speed and hit the brakes and it slid into a parked car (ice still on ground) but anyways i got a wobbly wheel broken and a bent shock the shock is fixed now tho

Has anyone tried a different pipe with the .25? I wonder how good the stock Ofna pipe is. I was at Ace today and the owner said Ofna has delayed the release of the "Deluxe" kits by a month, so they can unload the old stock. Sounds like it comes with longer suspension arms, so that should be very interesting, coming from Ofna.

They say the price will be pretty good to help out the guys that have already bought them, I have mixed feelings on doing it because the thing is alreday heavy enough but man over two feet long would be kick a**.

Have you heard anything on the new truck with the longer chassis? Will it be about the same price. I am hoping to get one in the summer.:D

Retail goes up $100 but my dealer pricing went up $50 so you will probably spend an extra $75 on it to the consumer, still cheaper than doing the conversion.

It looks like my going to save my money and get a Titan Deluxe RTR. If it comes with that version available. Because with a 250cc fuel tank that truck could get a estimimate 20-30 mins on a tank of fuel. I know it will get double the run time of the Terra Crusher with it's 150cc fuel tank.

picit

Well the big block motor uses way more fuel than a small block so I dont think your run times would be that long but it will be impressive.

Well I lost my front drive shaft last nite, the set screw came loose and lost my front wheel drive, doesnt handle too great in 2WD, pretty easy fix though, more locktite!! Ran with my buddies Savage last nite, seems to be way faster off the line but that Savage jumps really well! Going to be some good competition!!

Hello,

I got a Titan for Christmas and designed some Ti skids for it. About half you have seen this, but we ALL need to come together to get Hardcore to make them at a good price for us.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid47/p8e29b6eb5527ce9844ad93d4e711d443/fcc3e13a.jpg

The will be done next week and I'm organizing a group buy, you all need to contact me if you want the intro price, we need at least ten of us. Price will be UNDER $100 for Two skids maybe as low as $80, but we won't know exact price till they cut the first ones.

01-22-2003, 01:33 PM
Ofna should have made the Titan with a reverse or have an option to buy a reverse module just like the Savage 21. I hate having to run a mile to the car, buggy, or truck to get it unstuck when it can't go forward for some reason. Also, it helps in the truck's drivability and fun factor

0700
01-22-2003, 04:09 PM
You would "hate" to have to fix your reverse tranny all the time too. Supermaxx guys are dying to get our tranny in that truck.

metal gear
01-22-2003, 05:14 PM
I would prefer to have OFNA engineered the reverse as the Titan itself was being built from ground up. That way, it would be a better fit, durability, effectiveness, reliability, etc.

Hi folks,

I was sad about the weak performace of my new Titan.
In heavy off road my clutch melted away like ice in the sunshine.
So i decided to install a second Force .25 engine from my spare Titan
(Spare parts for Ofna Cars are not available in Germany).
I just mirrored the engine mount holes to the other side, cutted of
the inner engine mounts, moved the RC-Box to the front and remountet
the throttle-servo without the holder plate.
The throttle linkage was a bit tricky but is working fine.
I installed two fuel line splitters which are available for airplanes to
split the fuel and pressure lines.
Surprisingly, starting the two engines one after another is no problem.
I thought one running engine would flood the second engine, but this
is no problem.
Engine synchronization? No problem! Due to the clutch system on RC-Cars
no synchronization is needed. When both clutches during driving are
engaged both engines run at the same rpm. Just make sure that both
engines are idleing the same.
For engines setup and breaking in driving with one engine is no problem.
Just make sure to stop even the second engine if one stalls becouse the
running engine sucks (sorry, is this the right word?) the fuel away from
the carb of the not running engine, so that you can't restart the stalled
engine if you are running the car for more then 30 sec. with only one
engine.

By the way I nickle plated all steel parts to get them stainless and
re-anodized all orange aluminium parts to natural color.

My Titan performs now very well. The two engines sound pretty well.
Now I have got enough low-end punch for wheelies from standstill and
the clutches are lasting much longer.

Bye and have fun

Thanks RC Jack,

at full throttle one tank full lasts of about 3 minutes.
Not long, but worth it, I tell you. The car flys over the
dunes like an 1:10 scale buggy with 1.2bhp. A lot of
fun. I dont want to see how the car would behave with
two better engines. The Force .25 are OK but I don't
belive that each one puts out 2.39bhp.
I Think two Hyper .21 8 Port engines should be better.

Bye
Peter

Hey guys, I just recently aquired a ofna Titan and it should be here in the next week or so. I am very excited to drive this truck. Its not the delux version but I should be upgrading to that soon. The guy i got it from installed a 250cc tank, ported 25, aluminum clutch shoes, and new tires and rims. I am familiar with the monster truck scene as i own 3 savages and previsiously my own creation of a 2wd nitro rush monster. But is there anything i should know about this truck and is there anything i should keep spare in my tool box besides CVAs which i just ordered 2 pairs of.

Just add threadlock to all the drive cups. change the diff lube to something thicker, 50,000 or higher.

RushMan86

All right I'll lock the diff and watch the CVAs. Anything else. What tires would go good on this thing besided dom tires which he already is including. And what bodys fit can I use savage bodys?

I don't think different clutch shoes will help.

Have you tried proping it off the ground and running the throttle up to see if it shifts then?

I don't have a Titan (yet ;)) so I'm not sure on what type of two speed it uses, but you might want to pull it out and look at it. Cam and lever two speeds normally have another screw to fasten it to the shaft, one to adjust and the other to secure it. Clutch type is a little different.
