Hi,

I´m a beginner when it comes to Nitro boats or boats in general. I have messed around with nitro cars for a while now and finally gave in and bought a Traxxas Blast EP it was fun but the runtimes were in the 5-7 minute range, that sucked.

SO I'm looking to buy a Almost Ready to Run kit.

I have a Futaba Heli Radio 6 chan. + reciver and 4 futaba standard servos laying around, I was thinking of using them and buying a boat + Pullstart engine.

I have looked at the Traxxas Villain IV that has a return to shore
function that appeals me but the one that is really cool is Kyosho
Bluestreak GP.

Do any of the fine people in this group have any advice/comments?

Thank you.

Traxxas Villain IV that has a return to shore function.
I believe you mean the "nitro V"
If a chase boat is not available, then the nitro V is a great boat because of the RTS system and electric start.
I have not seen the Blue Streak, except on the web and in magazines, but if it is the same hull density as the Jet Stream you will find it holds up much better to the abuse nitro can dish out.
The Blue Streak replaced the Jet Stream a year or so ago.
As for parts, they are equally available. My Jet Stream is faster and handles better than my father's nitro V.
I must state that my Jet Stream is converted to a Kyosho .18 in a straight line drive train.
The nitro V will benefit by being fitted to a Prather 215 prop. You will need a piece of copper tubing w/ a 3/16" OD to fit the Prather prop to the prop shaft.
Just a few thoughts.
O yes, You should always have a safe way of retrieving ANY r/c boat just incase!

Are there any way of attaching a small electric motor to nitros for a return to shore function?

I mean for boats that do not come with it.

I also read about failsafes.. I used to have one on my nitro car that would return the throttle to 0, that worked cuz i had a clutch in the car.

How would I achieve a failsafe in a boat? Maybe the RTS is a kind of a failsafe?

Thanks,

The Traxxas has the best design for an RTS.
As for a failsafe it will install just the same as a car. You either set the throttle on the failsafe, which is preferred, or set the rudder so the boat circles.
I used to set my failsafes on the throttle to idle the boat until I regain signal. If it collided with something at idle, it was usually ok.
Boat mounted failsafes seem to go nuts with the smallest amount of water so I quit using them.
