Hey Nirto Man,

I have yet to see a (new) gasoline boat RTR for under $400...

I am searching for the same thing you are and I have narrowed it down to the Kyosho Jet Stream 1000. It's a deep-vee hull, 42" long, and comes with a nitro powered .32 motor. The boat with motor is currently $300, and tower showed that the discontinued OS.32SX-MX version made it do approx 35mph. (tech notes) http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p.pgm?Q=1&I=LXS862&P=7

The boat now only comes with a 'Kyosho' motor, but I compared the two motors and they show the same horsepower of 1.1bhp.

Throw in the trusty Futaba 2PEKA FM radio and you are at $420 RTR.

That is, of course, if you buy it all new.

Yes, there are other supplies that you will need with a nitro boat, but they are usually one time purchases. Yes, a nitro hobby is expensive, but as they say, "If ya wanna go, ya gotta Glo!"

I think you can buy a new electric boat RTR starting at about $100-125. They are small... usually under 26".. and might do 14-18mph stock. Run time would be under 10 minutes.

I used to have electrics, but got bummed out because you charge the batteries for at least 20 minutes, and only get 5-10 minutes of fun. And you have to let the batt cool b-4 you charge it again...

Glow fuel has the same power from the first drop to the last, and now I am hooked. I have 2 cars as well.

Whatever you find, good luck. And don't break the bank.
