are capacitors really neccissary? they are on a sped gems 17t motor with a novak explorer II esc. the car is an hpi e-rally.
Im putting on some no sloder leads and they wont go on with capacitors on the motor.
thanks

They filter out noise, and can potentially stop a glitch from occuring. I would say yes, you need them

My motor will overheat without the diode (came with my ESC) and capictors just make sure the capictors are the right kind for you motor or ESC. The wrong kind is just as bad as none at all.

my motor says epic on the endbell. doesnt that mean i dont need them?

Where do you instaill a diode?

CK- yes you need to instal them still.

EPIC=Ernie Provetti Incorporated,I don't run with caps on my motors but I also run with a pcm radio so I don't have to.Try running without them and if you have glitching problems install them, that simple.it doesn't hurt anything not to run them just prevents glitching, but like I said a pcm radio will solve just about any glitching problem.

i will try running with out them and see what happens, i was told if the motor says epic, then it doesnt need capacitors.

Where do you instaill a diode? if you instaill a diode. do you?

If your ESC didn't come with a diode or say it needed one you don't need one but if you want one you need to install them on the + and - terminals. I got a replacment at my lhs and it was a shottky msc9506 diode.

then wouldn't it short out if you go in reverse?

No i don't think so but I don't know for sure. Since my speed control is forward only. But some reverse ESCs come with diodes too but I don't know from experience.

Epic motors has nothing to do with the need for capacitors Epic is just the importer and nothing else,If you don't have a ESC that calls for a diode then you don't need one.I've never ran a diode in ten years of racing and haven't ran capacitors for at least the last two years and have not had any problems.

Dont put a diode o a reverse it will Explode!

Hi,

The only EPIC motor I know of where you do not need to solder the capacitors on is the P2K as there are installed in the endbell near the brush hoods. I think the P2K2 is the same also but don;t quote me on that. Now, as for Diodes, Novak ESC's I know require them but ESC's like Tekin have them pre built inside. All a Diode does is inproves your brakes and takes the heat and strain from your braking FETS on your ESC. Id recomend using at least one no mater what motor and ESC you use. I know some people who use 3!

Thanks,

Dale

The GM3's also have the SMC's(surface mount capacitor).
