If you have any KYOSHO Electric Boats, or had any experience with them, post your thoughts and pics will be great too!

Here's a starter, my Jetstream 800 EP.

Kyosho Wavechopper

http://www.kyosho.com/boats/kyob1405main.jpg

Drive unit is a subsurface prop, and steered by an oversized rudder that makes the jetski able to do spins..

http://www.kyosho.com/boats/kyob1405a.jpg

I say it's great buy for your dollars, it comes in Electric Powered and Nitro powered. I'd go for the Electric, but if you demand more speed and running time, go for the Nitro version...

Sorry! I don't think KYOSHO makes one.

I was thinking of the Waveshark.. I can't remember who made it, but it was in review with Radio Controlled Boat Modeler (http://www.rcboatmodeler.com) issue..

Check it out

If you have experiences with KYOSHO's Wavechopper, please post your ideas here, and or your do's and don'ts and any other suggestions and photos you would like to share...

I recently got my Waverunner kit from my local hobby shop and I'm eager to learn from those who have expereince handling and setting-up this kit.

Thanks!!!

I have assembled the kit to an alomost finish. I have yet to put the decals and my Radio Gear.

I encountered a problem with the motor/prop shaft coupler thou.. The coupler holes seems to be off centered because when istalled, the prop shaft wobbles and vibrates.

I have to tell this to kyosho.

Thanks!! Yes I did try it in the pool.. It was fast!! but it would be faster at the beach and the runtime would be longer because of bouyancy difference... Eager to get to the beach this weekend... :D

On the wavechopper kit does the hull come already that color or do you have to paint it? From the box pic it looks like you vae to paint it (which would be cool)

Yes indeed you have the paint the hull in the "kit only" package. In the "RTR" package from KYOSHO, the hull comes pre-painted and the lady rider comes in a adifferent colored vest.

I think your turn fins are installed on the wrong side. You will get more banking leverage if you install the fins nearer the edge.

Dongskie Pinoy - what did you do about your coupler wobbling? Did you get that worked out?

rcdoug- did you encounter any problems with the coupler, or driveline wobble/vibration??

Both you guys, great pics! Thanks for posting them. I've been thinking of getting one of those kits ever since I found out they were only $59 at Tower Hobbies

Yes I did... I had to machine my own, since waiting for a replacement would take some time. So I took the initiative to make one.

It works pretty well in all RPM ranges, no vibration and lots of power can be induced..

Onced I used a 13t-double motor on it and it screams like nuts! and the speed is increduble too, it's just the runtime that is disappointing.

I guess an 8 or 7 cell 3300mah will be good.

RCDoug: Great!! keep us posted with pics when you get it running!! good luck!!

Dongskie Pinoy, glad you got your problem worked out. Can you drive it without the driver figure? Have you? Does it handle better without it?

thanks,
eric

Dongskie Pinoy
12-25-2002, 11:18 AM
MRCThunderking: Yup I did, and it was a bit faster because of less weight and air-drag.. I couldn't say that it handled better, but I think it's more realistic with the rider figure. I actually changed the figure one time and mounted an ELITE FORCE soldier figure on it.

That sounds really cool! Thanks for the speedy replies!

Does the stock micro switch work very well? Is there plenty of room for an esc, and if so, running the kit motor and 6 cells, could you get by with a small car esc???

appreciate the help!

here is the final finished product! I used testors paint. It turned out great! Now the decals are on and I just need to wait! Glad you all like the pictures. I don't think any wavechopper can look bad! They are all great looking! I have seen a few on different websites, some have wild paint jobs and another website has a video of a wavechopper in action!

Dongskie Pinoy

1. Does the stock micro switch work very well?: I can't say "very well", but it worked fine with me, but I was looking for more of the variability of the speed because I run my WC on courses, so I had to install an ESC.

Is there plenty of room for an esc?: Yes there is. There is enough plenty of room in the radio box.

Could you get by with a small car esc?: Yes you can, but it can only handle stock motors or mildly modified. One experience I can share, when I ran my WC with a TEKIN Formula10 ESC and the stock motor that came with it and a 6-cell 3000mah pack, I cooked my ESC... The ESC smoked while running and it slowed down.

I suggest you use a more powerful ESC, if you can afford, get a "no-motor limit" ESC and maximize cooling by installing heatsinks..

I ran onced with a 13t double and a 7-cell 2400mah pack. It ran like nuts and had a few roostertail in some instances.

Hope it has helped you.

I'm looking to purchase a Kyosho Blade Runner-have to sell my rc truck first-....does anyone on here have a Blade Runner that they can post pictures of? How hard was it to assemble? Does it have good speed? If so about how fast will it go? Does it handle rough water pretty well? If you all could help me it would be very appreciated.

P.S. I'm wanting a Blade Runner cause of the TRI hull design and I figured it would handle well in rough water and turning. I plan to install a Kyosho AquaSpeed 17T high speed motor. I also plan to, some how, rig two 2000 MaH batteries together and run the boat with that. The reason for this is so I can race this summer around Barkley Lake. I often find people up in the bays racing and plan on joining them this summer. Maybe earn some money!

mmm , Bladerunner , cool looking boat .
I made that mistake....er uh...i have one of those .
But seriously stock (20 turn motor) it does about 10 MPH .
I've tried it with a modified , not much faster .
I've tried it direct drive with stock and mod motor , no big thrill .
If you want fast then you have to completely redo the entire drive system and use a 700 motor on 12+ cells .
But don't turn going fast , it will spin out or roll .
The sponsons were designed wrong ( not to the correct scale of the full size boat )

The Super Hawaii is a great boat, lots of potentials and highly tunable given the right hardware.

Kyosho boats are more on the lighter-side if you look at it in a different perspective..

does any one know if you can put 7 cells in the stock bladerunner?

Pagemaster
06-20-2003, 07:59 AM
scorpien boats, most people arent happy with the stock speed, so when they increase it, it handles poorly. In its stock form, it does what is intended. Like most of the kit boats it runs in the 10-15mph range.
Yes you can put 7 cells in it, but it starts to reduce the motor life.

i just got a kyosho jet stream 800 off the internet for 50 bux almost RTR all it needed was a radio, but i took out the mechanical speedo and put in an astro flight 36 cell universal speedo. i also put in dual 550s on 12 cells. this boat is really fast but when i turn the rear of the boat spins around really fast also the boat leans so far in the corners that the water goes over the hatch and it lets water in. are there any tricks to make the boat not spin or lean so much in the turns. i dont car if it make the steering less responsive. i would post a pic of the boat but i dont know how. almost forgot, when i run the dual motor setup one motor gets really hot, but the other easily passes the 5 second test. what causes this.

TXTRCR: I checked your photo and am glad to say your JS 800 still looks good!

Regarding your problem on the boat leaning too much while turning, all you have to do is add / install a trim-tab to the transom of the boat, the transom is the rear wall of the boat where the propeller shaft protrudes...

Check the photo of my previous JS800.

Regarding the dual motor, your case never happened to me, try looking at the motor which goes hot if it has burned out windings... this is the only reason I find that a properly working motor would heat up. And by the way, how did you wire your dual motor, Parallel or Series connection?

Good luck!! Enjoy your RC Boat!!

NitroMeth: I bet the Sunstorm 600 is a fun boat to have... I just don't believe that the stock ESC can handle a motor lower than 23 turns. Mostly rtr kits can only take 540 motors to 23turn motors... or 19turns with the fear of burning the ESC...

I suggest you use it well first and go all out with your 540 or 23t motor and upgrade to a 7cell pack... 3300mah maybe tons of fun!

Good luck!

i wired the motors in parallel. i have found the problem, the motor which was getting hot was taking the whole load of the boat, the other motor which wasnt hot at all was not doing anything but spinning freely, the shaft didnt have a flat spot on it and it was just spinning without grabbing the gear. how ever i would like to try a new set up. which set up do you think would be faster. i have several motors lying around and i will run them all on 12 cells, i have two 550 titan emaxx motors, two 700 johnson drill motors, and a 13 turn speed gem 2 motor, also two bonzi stock 540s. which set up do you run and about of fast is your boat. i havent offically clocked mine but with just the one motor pulling it ran a great deal faster than a traxxas blast with a 17 turn motor on 6 3000mah cells.

Thanks for the nice comments on my JS.

I sell the 800 GRX motors ($75.00)on my site they work well with the Astro 207 escs.

http://www.mmeu.com/Members/joye/joye.htm

These wouldn't be a bolt in mod. You could probably modify the mount or adapt the mounting plates i sell. The 800 GRX has a 6mm shaft and requires a special coupler for .130 flex cable or 1/8 shafts that i also sell.
I also offer PAY Pal. This month theres FREE SHIPPING on 800GRX motors. Don't wait to long.

where do i mount my water pickup so that it will actually pick up water with out creating drag. i put a johnson 700 drill motor on the boat and it works well it give good speed, but with a full charged pack it, im not sure what you call it the prop spins really fast but it doesnt go anywhere. i can hear the motor rev and i can see some currents behind the boat it just stops moving forward then all of the sudden i catches traction i guess and takes off like a rocket. what is doing this. i put the prop that comes with a dumas sport 40 hydro plane kit on the boat cause its brass and more durable than the stock plastic one.

Well, it's finished.

Took it out today and ran a couple packs through it. It looked so pretty sittin in the lake, bobbin' on the waves. So, I hit the trigger and off it went. Gawd, this is fun stuff. Too choppy to have any fun, so I packed up and went to a swimming area I know about. Nobody there, so into the water for more pics.

Question: How do I get the last bit of water out of the sponsons, I think they're called?? I can hear the water sloshin' around.

This thing needs an esc...bigger motor...:D

New Hot Tip!
For kyosho boats with a rudder (like my viper r) use silicone grease on the moving parts especially plastic to plastic contacts. It makes rudder action so much smoother. I just realized this and had to share.

Well I took my boat out today. The water opened up around here but it was really windy. I was too anxious to wait for calmer weather so I slapped in a pack and installed my 17t double. It went fine for the first few passes and the it happened. I took a turn too quick and it flipped. Luckily my pond where I run at is only around 2 ft. deep, but it was around 30 degrees outside! And if it wasn't bad enouogh it happened again when I was going strait into the wind. So, is there anything special to do to waterproof if the boat flips?

Wow! I forgot all about this thread!!

Winter has finally begun to release us from her chilly grasp. Unfortunately, the pond I run in hasn't quite thawed yet( still ice covered over 95% :( )

The boat's gotten an ESC, I haven't finished the wiring yet, however. Just gotta find a killer motor to throw in. I can't wait.

I also managed to score a DPI hydroplane off ebay...waitin for that one to get here too. I'm gonna need a bigger truck to haul all this crap around :D

p.s. Anyone got any ideas for a kewl boat name? I'm stuck.

does anyone know if a 7 cell will fit in the viper it says it needs a 6 cell but says nothing about seven

Hi BTE214!

Wouldn't it be great to run 7-cells ain't it?

There would definitely be space to fit a 7-cell pack, it's just a matter of cell configuration.. It is better that you assemble a new pack in the 3300mah range and configure them prior to assembly to fit into the battery bay of your Viper..

Post pics if you may, we can post suggestions too.

Good luck!

hey dongskie pinoy i have the blue streak 800 i am running the 12t dw motor the atom smasher from kyosho with a jeti navy esc from hobby lobby and 7 cell 1900 battery. it goes pretty good now just trying different props the 38mm and the 42 mm even the 50mm but i think the 50 is too big for the low turn motor. next i want to get an enforcer super sport from warehouse hobbies.is your jet stream stock or did you make changes if so what did you do ? i also use the 25 tooth gear. do you know if you can convert these to direct drive?

Are you looking to get the same motors?

I have 2 LeMans 360ST's from my Hurricane kit. They are 10 years old but only have about 3 hours of run time on them. Didnt use the boat at all for about 6 years and I put in 2 Jaguar 17's past winter. Let me know. They still run like the day I got them.

Hi Joe, I guess so, I really don't know much about motors....
I know there are brushed and brushless, but this is an old boat and
anything that turns the prop I guess is a good thing :p

Lucky you having 2 of those, what you selling 'em for ?

Lol, no I didn't move out of the country, just been working like crazy. I wasn't thinking when I made that original post, but I don't think it would be worth buying them from me because electric motors in that size are only worth maybe $20. I bought 2 Jaguar 17 and only paid $27 each, and they are about double what the LeMans are. Unless you live real close to me, the cost of buying the ones I have and then paying for shipping it is not worth it, in my opinion anyways. Just go to your local hobby shop and see what they have, you might even be able to still order the 360st's from Kyosho or go with the motor that is being used in the boats now that are in the same class.

Morning Joe hehe, nice to hear from ya.

Wish me luck :-)

Hey Frosty, someone gave me a Kyosho Lemans 360 motor, I was curious, so I tested it out, and found the Kyosho Magnetic Mayhem was better, faster, & more powerful. So just recently put the Mag May in my boat, a Kyosho Jet Arrow, from experience I know I can use 7 cells, and it's pretty fast, this combo with the stock red 42mm prop takes it from about 12mph stock to about 20mph, with matched batts.

Hi Frosty I have a replacement motor for your boat. The Lemans 360. It has been rebuilt and is as goood or better than new.Maybe yours can be fixed up too.Can you make it run at all? I can rebuild it.I will sell mine to you if you want it.The prop shaft is 4mm ,also 5/32" is very close and will work also. The shaft can be threaded to 4mm and Graupner Carbon fiber props will work out fine . They are low cost and easy to get.

Hi Guys!
Glad to see that this thread keeps on going... It's been a while for since I ran my last boat... I've moved on to 1/10th on-road cars lately (since there is no visible water to run an RC boat within a 100+ kilometers) and I've been enjoying it..

Well reading this thread makes me feel like doing things all over again...

Great work guys!! It's just a matter of time before you all convince me to touch an rc boat again... :)

04-30-2006, 09:19 AM
Right now it's all in a box while I paint the boat. Inside the boat should be a black tray. In the corner towards the back is the reciever (same side as the antenna). In the center back is the steering servo. In the right back corner is the ESC. Originally the batteries were mounted to brackets in front of the motors and gear box. I moved them back and to the sides for a better CG. I hope this helps and if you are missing the tray I have an extra one and I am sure we can work out a deal.

I'll admit it's nowhere near factory but i would have thought it would work. Here is my main Q though. Is it possible that the stock motor is too sloow to force water in the system?
