View Full Version : Team Assosciated Use of Cut Shaft Nitro Engines

I recently bought a XXX-NT. The SINGLE deciding factor between it and the RC10GT was I did not want to cut the shaft on any of my engines.

I wish there was a conversion kit so I could use a standard shaft engine in an Assosciated product. I would really like to buy a Nitro TC3.

Don't get me wrong, I love Team Losi. My first serious kit was a JRX-T (several) years ago, and my second was a RC10 Team Car when the stealth trans first came out. I think that Losi and Assosciated both make very good products, I have owned cars from both manufacturers for several years. It literally would be a toss up as to which electric kit I would buy if I were still interested in electric. ( I would probably buy both. Or I would get a Losi XXX-T and an Assosciated B3)

It is unfortunate that I can't even consider an Assosciated nitro kit because it will not accept a Standard shaft engine. (Also, in my experience, the cut shaft engines just don't have the resale value of the standard shaft engines. Ebay is a blessing for our hobby.)

Thanks for reading my rant. :) :)

I have a GT, and always wondered, are all the other vehicles wider in the back, allowing the longer shaft length?

AE's nut actually makes more sense IMO. Instead of having a shaft sticking out by 1/4" out the end of the clutchbell or a 1/4" gap between the flywheel and the engine, they simply remove that excess shaft.

The NTC3 has the opion of a cut shaft or a pilot shaft. You don't have to cut it if you don't want to, just buy the right engine.

I know that the NTC3 can use either the cut or the pilot shaft, but all of my current engines are standard shaft. I guess my gripe is that I would like Assosciated not to be the odd ball. I hate the fact that I cant (wont) buy an assosciated nitro for just that reason. I would love to have a NTC3 and/or A RC10GT. I realize that Traxxas also uses cut shafts; but just about everyone else uses standard shafts.

I suppose I could just wish everyone uses cut shafts in the same way. I just want manufacturers to have a standard engine shaft that they all use. I dont care if it is cut or standard or pilot, as long as everyone is the same. I just think its easier to have Assosciated offer the option, rather than just about every other manufacturer under the sun going to cut shafts.

I want to be able to change engines between my cars as I usually buy and sell different cars so often. I enjoy building and working on my cars just as much as driving them. And I am not one of those in our hobby who is devoted to only one manufacturer. I enjoy cars from many different manufacturers. I usually have three cars, all nitro, and right now they all happen to be from three different manufacturers - one Losi, one HPI, and one Duratrax.

I guess all I want is the option to own Assosciated without having to cut my engines. I just wish all manufacturers got on the same page and used the same engine shaft. :)

(And while the car manufacturers are straightening that out, lets get the radio manufacturers to decide on a standard number of splines on the servos. I am tired of having a Futaba Horn that doesn't quite fit right on a JR Servo, because one uses 23 and one 24 and one 25 splines. COME ON ALREADY!)
