I just bought the Blast. What is the recommended battery pack?

Any 6 cell R/C car battery will work in your boat. Basically, you want to keep it limited to around 6 or 7 cells. A Duratrax Sanyo 1500 would be good.

I am using the Blast with a brand new Venum RAcing metal battery ( niMH) rated at 3000 mAh, ( 7.2 volts ) and my boat is overheating,

I have a feeling that this battery is just too powerful for it.

I don't know why though, I run the boat about 45 seconds and it will just stop.... as it's already overheated... very strange.

perhaps the ESC is shutting down because of too much amperage from the battery ?

the 1500 cells aren't enough run time. I upgraded to the 3000 cells and had the same problem with overheating. Buy a cooling coil or build one yourself using 2 - 3 mm dia ali tube. Wrap it around the motor a few times and there it is.

Once installed on the motor it doesn't fit properly in the boat, so you'll have to remove some material from the inner hull. Easy with a Dremel and then fill the area. I used normal silicone as its not in a structural area.

Build a water pick-up and dump then you should be good to go. Enjoy longer run times. :)

Hi DoubleDog :D

Thanks for jumping in on this thread ! .... can you tell me how you build
a water pickup ?

am I correct in assuming that since there is no pump to bring water into the boat, that this "pickup" must be a piece of pipe that is facing forward somewhere on the hull, so I would assume the open end of the pipe must be facing forward and in the water... then as the boat moves thru the water, the water would enter the pipe ? ... kind of like if you took a drinking straw in your hand and then pushed it through the water... - water would enter the straw and then exit the straw .... is this how you would do it ?

Thanks DoubleDog :)

as I understand it, you've pretty much have way of it. I think though, that most pick-up tubes are placed about 1/2" behind the prop.

Nothin' to it bud.:)

Doesn't always have to be in the prop wash to do a good job. From the pics here you can see that mine was mounted flush on the transom & was enough to cool sufficiently.

This is the best example I've got for you as it was on my MHZ Gecko.

Take a small piece of the ali or brass tube (1" or so)
Bend at a slight angle (20 - 45* guesstimated)
Cut one end at an angle
Strap to the back of the boat

Too easy.

Would be nice to have some to share of the Blast. :o
