If you already have a t maxx with proline MAXX suspension and a 1hp+ motor(M16, cv-rx etc...)CONGRATS!!! you already have the new maxx...
if you have those 2 things, there is NO reason to buy the new maxx, other than to add to your MAXX family!!:)
I LOVE the black body though

If they keep the price the same, that thing is gonna FLY off the shelf( I predict MASSIVE out of stock problems for the first few months)
I WILL be buying one of those 2.5's if they actually do the 50,000 rpm that traxxas is talking about in the engine description(when they are talking about the bearings)
After watching the videos I am impressed, but a stock maxx with the proline setup and an M16 will do everything the new maxx does.
Anyone else notice how much the new suspension arems look like the promax ones?(note the square section lower arms)

Traxxas looked at what us MAXXers wanted most often that was
1 wheelies/more speed
2 less rollovers

they delivered 100% on those things, the only 2 things that truck really needs are CVD's and a better slipper clutch, BUT the cvd's would add too much to the production cost of the t maxx. AND since it has "new and improved"axles as it is, it may not even NEED cvd's. I do wonder how the new axles will hold up to a spool, I am thinking NO better than the old ones, heres why. Thicker axles BUT more engine power= no more resistance to twist than thinner axles with less power.

My 2 cents...

hey im gonna get a new tmaxx.! that is my final answer. even though it only has a .15, but i here it can go 40 mph!Plus it is wider than the old one. hopefully it is as good as it looks:D

the new t-maxx acctually goes about 43-44 miles per hour, if you look at the chart with the t-maxx, and the other two, it shows that the t-maxx's top speed is over the 40 mph line

Just ordered my T-Maxx first nitro truck and cant wait Nitro_Newboy what price did you get qouted over her for a T-Maxx i paid £300 with the fuel bottle charger and battery etc but i forgot to order any fuel
can you get the traxx top fuel over here for um ?

Nitro_Newboy

i got quoted £400 for a T-maxx 2.5, just with EZ start and i would have to wait till novemeber

i have never seen top fuel in UK, but blue thunder is an 'authorized by traxxas' "safe" fuel.

Madmann135
09-26-2002, 11:22 AM
PEOPLE the traxxas 2.5 don't have 50,000 RPM if it did the new T-Maxx would go like 60mph stock.
People with the OS cv-rx can go 40+

The traxxas 2.5 has I think 37,000rpm at most 40,000 rpm but that's a strech

Dnmeistr
09-26-2002, 02:01 PM
Who said it did, Traxxas only said the bearings were rated at that rpm, I guess that was a little confusing for some  And the cvrx is no match for the new .15 that has already been proven.

I have the new maxx and the old maxx with a M16 on it. Pick up on the new maxx is a little quicker... they are about even down a stait away and about even on top end.

I run my M16 with a stinger pipe.

There was one of the readers rides along time ago this guy had a maxx with TWIN 4-stroke engines, im not sure but i think it would kill someone if the radio ever glitched

MethaneFreak
09-28-2002, 12:37 AM
Twin engines are cool, but I wouldnt take one if I had the money, my opinion.

Hey ya on the Traxxas forums? Well a few months ago they had a post on something from e-bay...a 1/4 scale monster truck! It was huge, it had a Maxx in one picture with it, it was cool. Only had a 25mph top speed, but thats probably because it was runnning 2.1 hp chainsaw engine. Get that 1/4 scale V8 (dont know who its from), but it has 3.4 in standard form. Or you could get a super charger for a 1400 lift in price. Oh yeah, the V8 is 4-stroke, so you an be garenteed better power through-out the rpm range, smaller pictons for more rpm's too.

Nitroaddict

if your fuel cap isn't closed then your fuel tank doesn't have pressure to keep feeding fuel to the carb which will cause it to die

Where's the best place to buy hop-ups for the new maxx? I have been looking on ebay and some sites. Is aluminum the same as alloy?

MethaneFreak
10-11-2002, 08:11 PM
I think aluminum might be a alloy, only because it doesnt exhist naturally in out environment.

But no. Aluminum is a element. A alloy is a comination of metals in molecules and compounds.

Just got it and so far am having a blast. The thing is insane fast after break-in and after dialing the needles in, well, it is just crazy. The only down side is the typical Maxx shock problem. Figured I would run on track with stock until they popped; took all of two laps. Now I have a set of Losi/Dynamite alums and am another hundred bucks poorer. Other than that this thing is a blast. Will probably stick with my Dominator for serious track work, but the Maxx is a blast.

Ok, I am going to buy a 2.5 but am thinking about offing the radio it comes with and getting an FM radio.
What are the gains of FM
What would the best radio be for under 200.00
Is the stock radio ok?

robc
11-10-2002, 12:21 AM
Stock radio is fine for bashing around especially if you are in a big open area without much chance of radio interference. FM radio virtually eliminates radio glitching and interference, which can send your RC temporarily out of control. FM also gives you many more channels to choose from if you plan on racing. I would go with the new Airtronics MX3, 3 channels, FM, 3 model memory, and loads of features. Have seen it as cheap as $100-$130 and comes with 1 or 2 servos depending on which set-up you get. A lot of guys on the Maxx forums like it, Can't beat the price. I plan on getting one when the budget allows it.

robc
11-13-2002, 01:25 AM
Noodle, the 2.5 engine manual recommends 20%, not much more expensive and your engine will perform and idle better. The stock pipe and manifold were made specifically for this engine and work great. Only one company has a new tuned pipe for the 2.5 and it looks like a banana, I think the company is Ritter.

I made a bone headed move and shifted into reverse on a dirt road while still going forward. It not only did not make the shift it froze up. Now the engine is fine but the flywheel will only spin one way. I switch between channels but it will not turn. The wheels spin. The engine can spin (I moved it away from the flywheel and gave the flywheel a spin, the flywheel was a no go).
What is going on, or not going on. What did I break? How should I fix it???

Hi All

I purchased the New Nitro T-Maxx several days ago and i must say it is a blast and the power the motor produces is awesome.

The only complaint I have is I broke it in exactly the by the manual and I did install a FailSafe on it and every now and then it will just quit running (instantly, no warning ), and the fail safe indicator will flash. If I leave it sit for 3 -20 minutes it will operate again. When the failsafe shuts it off you can restart the motor but no controls work.

The following I have done to troubleshoot with no change

1. Installed new batteries in the Remote and truck

2. I always make sure the truck is not set too lean

3. The engine does not overheat

4. The radio is well within range when this happens

5. I have reset the failsafe many times

6. Double checked all wire Integrity

What is weird is the truck runs just great and bam it just dies and the failsafe will flash as if it lost signal.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated

NitroRipper

acccharger51
11-25-2002, 02:11 AM
take the failsafe off so it doesnt shut it down and so that when and if it happens again you dont have to wait 20 mins for your radio equip to work again.....how far can ya really be driving that ya loose signal.... i havent had any problems with mine yet except the brakes dont like to engage nearly as fast as i would like all the time they work fine most of the time but not all the time which causes accidents especially if your off roading near curbs later at night in a construction area and your pipe happens to slip out of the sock that connects it to the manifold and ya have e clips with rings on them so you cant pull them out with out a needle nose... so theres almost no way to get to the fuel line to stop ot and im not gonna put my finger over a hot manifold for 2 seconds.... so you have to run back to your truck only to find that you had your needle nose plyers with you the whole time. o yes it is loads of fun

Get rid of the Fail-Saffe the New T-Maxx doesn't need one because it has a built -in TRS (Throttle Return Spring).

I'm getting A 2.5 T-maxx soon so what is the first thing I'll have to look out for. And what will be the first thing to upgrade on the T-maxx.

anothermbdusted
11-26-2002, 01:10 AM
I dont know if that fail safe is made by Ofna but if it is All i can say is humm it in the trash.and get the throttle spring set up.the reason why i say this is because this weekend my ofna 9.5 went beserk i mean full throttle (scary sight seeing car come at you 40 mph with no control and full tank of fuel) and come to find out the reason why it did is because when i held the throttle on for longer then 3 seconds then tap the brakes it would lock the thing up and where ever the servo was last is where it went to which was full throttle.i thought that it was my fault and didnt set it up properly but the guy at the hobby shop even tried to set it which is a no brainer push full brake and then push the button and boom its suppose to work but he said that the thing sucks. thats why he dont carry them anymore.

HI guys, just broke in my new maxx today, the power the motor produces is just awesome, not many problems along the way just a few fouled glow plugs through the first 2 tanks, did not need 2 touch the factory settings, and even after the 6th tank the car is going like a rocket, may be a little ritch ,but boy does she move,"CRAZY" the low end is verry responsive , so i think im gona leave at factory,, WHAT DO U GUYS THINK?? im gona tweet the high speed mix a little,,i caunt waite 2 take her out again tommorow, boy i recommend this truck 2 anyone ..

To ripper; if you are using a failsafe you will most likely need to upgrade to a rechargeable rx paxk with at least 1000mah. The 4 aa batt pack doesn't provide enough power to keep the failsafe from kicking in. And not to start a debate but run both a throttle return spring for power loss/linkage problems, failsafe for glitch/signal loss. total cash outlay of $35....definitely worth every penny.

either one is good.. Dynamite shocks build just like Losi shocks and from what I hear are great but Big Bores are prebuilt and just as good. Just use your stock springs and dump the springs that come with the big bores and you will be fine.

I just broke my T-Maxx in. I am kinda pissed because it started running hot on the 5th tank. It was at factory setings (rich). around 280. I will weak it tomorrow but it was nice and cool outsiede so this worries me. Argh.

H i Guys..

The break in is complete, and all the fine ajustments have been made,,she is going like a rocket, even tries to wheelie on tarmac,",cool "
I did af2 lean out the low speed mix a bit, thought she would be ok at factory, till i did the pinch test and found she was slightly lean, but after about 1/4 turn everything seems to be fine...

p.s some times when i stop the car i af2 wait a minute or so before it will start again is this normal???Does anyone else have this prob??

My experience with the 2.5 is that guys who have problems with hot starts are probably too lean at the LSN. Try richening it slightly, the pinch test is only a rough guide line.

no offense to any maxx fans or anything but in my eyes this truck is not as great as everyone says. Its all hyped up by hardcore traxxas fans. We got one, broke it in correctly, and it sucks. It is a pain to work on and things are constantly breaking. just by running, not even crashing or anything. This is supposed to be one of the toughest trucks and i am not at all impressed.

What broke... after one flip after 2 feet of air into grass off of a 3 stair...

engine mount
spur gear
shift point screw
front skid plate
front shock tower
right front a-arm
bent rear shock tower

and i dont believe this should have happened after one jump like that. I have heard from some people this is the best truck to get, yet my friend and i can drive an associated into a tree (accidentally on his part) and have nothing happen.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'll give it a shot. I just finished breaking in my T-MAXX, and I had a quick question. When I accelerate, the T-MAXX makes a clicking sound. It is only under easy acceleration. When I accelerate more rapidly, it doesn't make the clicking sound. The sound also quits when the truck is moving at a higher rate of speed. Is this normal? If not, how can I fix it? Thanks for you input.

Hi there,, not sure if i know what u mean by clicking sound,,but under gradual excell the maxx will shudder and make a sort of clicking sound, more so a the break in, and will get gradualy less noticable as the engine losens up. This is normal, dont worry ,the engagement paws inside the transmission use centrifugal force to operate, and under a low rpm the paws will not swing out to engage, thus producing the shudder and clicking sound u are hearing.
check out page 42 bottom right of your owners manual ,or go to www.traxxas .com and download the running and breaking in videos,, u will see and here what your maxx should sound like..

Hope this will help u out..

ok guys, my uncle, his friend(and mine) and me all got the new tmaxx. now we all use the stock radio with different crystals but every now and then all of are trucks will just pin full throttle and there is nothing we can do to save it and they have full batteries truck and radio and there in range what could be going on? i have heard they run on am frequency(scary) but in an area where no humans are around for a few miles there shouldnt be any interference from outside sources

second question:today i was running it and hopped up on a curb and it spun for a few seconds i put it in reverse back it off then went to forward but it just stayed in reverse then the motor for the first time pegged redline and wouldnt idle down what u guys think??

p.s. the guy who said his truck broke all that after 1 2 foot jump is full of it ive gone end over end into 8 cartwheels and just bent a body pin

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you about the radio interference thing. Maybe one of the radios was broadcasting and drowning out the other two radio's signals?

Adding a comment after reading your comment above. At one point, a few months ago, my neighbors thought my brother and I were totally crazy (okay, more crazy than they already think we are:D) because we set up a ramp in front of the house and were jumping my T-Maxx and a Losi XXT off of it. Both were getting about 8 feet of air and clearing 15 feet before landing on my lawn. We must have jumped the T-Maxx 40-50 times that day, good landings, bad landings, missed the ramp a few times (into the curb!), came off the ramp all wrong, no problems whatsoever. We only quit after my wife came out of the house screaming that we were destroying the lawn!

as for your problem with it not shifting back from reverse, seems to me your idle is slightly to high, you need to be below a certain RPM for the transmission to engage ,or the engine wil just cream as if your in neutral,, i had this slight problem at the first, drop the idel down a little and u should be ok.

First let me say that the TMaxx 2.5 is really nice. I was out with a bunch of people jumping it over a real truck and it held up really nice considering that when it is stock, it really isnt made for that. The engine is ******* awesome for being a stock traxxas engine. it flies. I have also driven a Savage and while it is nice and solid, it is as no where as fun as the 2.5.

After getting 15 feet of air and sometimes not landing right several things did break, but that is to be expected. I think that buy upgrading to aluminum lower chassis braces, skid plates, and aluminum shocks with aluminum shock caps, this truck should be a tank. I cant decide whether it would be a good idea to get aluminum bulkheads as they might stress something else when it doesnt land right and break something bigger.

so aluminum lower chassis braces, alum. skid plates, and alum. shocks with alum shock caps( oh yea and titanium shock shafts) and this truck should be diesel. Any other suggestions?

Hello!

I bought my first monster truck yesterday!! And it's a T-maxx 2,5 : )

I got a bit carried away today during the last tank of break-in. I headed straight into a 1:1 cars tire at relatively high speed (2.gear engaged...)

I broke the following parts: Front Skidplate, both bulkheads in the front, one damper shaft, and a bellcrank for the steering.

I am now wondering which parts to replace with hop ups! I'm kinda on a budget!! But if there are parts that absolutely ought to be beefed up i will consider upgrading..

What do you guys recomend??

THX in advance!!

Well this is the first time on the maxx site for damage report on my 2.5. It is thru its 3rd gallon now and is still running quite strong. The farthes jump was across my street...Yes across my street 40 ft approximately off of a low angled 1/2 sheet of plywood on 8x16 cinder blocks height was around 6-7 feet but the distance was awesome at 40 mph. Nothing broke during the jumps, I just purchased some 40 series from proline and while testing them out I shattered the rear half-shaft, I do not know if it was the cold, the added traction, or the power of the motor or all three but, this new maxx has outperformed my old maxxes by far, and the ez-start still works flawlessly. Just wanted to post my series of unfortunate events to you all.

OK....first of all i posted this somewhere else but i realized it would be better off in here, so i'm not trying to spam......i just wanted to put this question where it better belongs.....

Anyone remember me say i was getting a t-maxx?? Well i did!! heh. am i the only one or is the ez-start connecting wire for the glow plug a peice of crap???? Well I realy messed mine up. no more heat shrink tubing around it and it's an inch shorter......don't ask......

and my glo plug leaks......at the seal sometimes and where the metal peg sticks out.........what's with that? AND the coil melted and was rammed up inside the plug so now i'm waiting for my replacements. i'm also gonna buy some rpm skidplates rear body mount and bulkhead braces......anything else i should buy??

and i need advice on that dumb ez-start glo wire.....dynamite's good? any others? i'm not buying a replacement crap for the crap i broke........although it's prob not crap, just it's design.

AND i'm having a difficult time tuning the thing cause the plug and cause i was dumb and goofed with the idle speed. what does it mean when it slowly decellerates from full throttle? and when it loses power when accelerating, it just stays at a slow speed and won't go faster I don't think i'm runing it lean because it's always puffing blue smoke.....heh it's my first time.

This is my second post after all of my replies:

I'll change it back to the original settings and start over, i probably goofed up, but when it lost power when accel. it didn't cut out, it just wouldn't go any faster.......and when you say i was running lean, there was PLEANTY of smoke coming from the stinger (blue smoke).....lol, but then i leaned it out cause it was idling fast and if i slowed the idle it would always stall so i thought if i tuned it i could tune the low spd. and that would help, but the high speed hasn't been tuned right yet, and dumb towerhobbies has my plugs or BACKORDER!!!!! argh, so know i wait........ in my spare time i made duct tape skidplates and coated the bumpers, take a look, it's suprizingly effective!! (and it looks GREAT for tape!! I'll get some pics and post them in a bit

VERY sorry i had to post it again, and more apologies for it's length......:D thanx for any advise you can give

your running lean o the ls thats killing plugs
and the reason for the bogging at the long
revs to idle. by closing the idle you have caused
the engine to stall. so open the idle till it dosnt stall
whenbraeking then richen the low speed.as for
the blue wire just replace it with stock until you
get a separate glow ignitor.

Heres my T-Maxx grass oval. Use it to practice for racing and whatnot. It looks boring and simple, but there a few hidden "invisible" dips in the grass on the right side of the track that has sent my Maxx into 15 foot cartwheels and bunches of flips.

hi, i need a little help with the brakes. i have the stock disc, but it dosn't stop like it use to. i have tried cleaning it with scotch bright but it didnt help. maybe the linkage is not right.or the brake set pin screws that hold the plate are out of adjustment. it seems to me that a stronger servo is needed, but it use to work great with that one, (and my batteries are charged up)any ideas?.

ok im in to this thread...but i have a BIG problem....ok i was trying to start my decent tmaxx....i tried and tried i put my finger over the ehast for a sec to get some fuel in the motor cause im running a HPI plastic pipe with no baffle , anyway...i tried to start it all of a son it starts making like pop noises and gas is coming out of the flywheel, ez-start thing, and the ezstart motor starts to smoke...right then and there i knew i was screwed...so about 5 minutes ago i took it all apart to find out that there was MAD AMOUNTS....LOTS!! like mabye 2,3 tablespoons of nitro under the piston...i held the motor upside down it pours out...i was P-oed ...but now with the head off and no air filter when you turn the flywheel slow you can hear it make like a very quiet stract/rubbing noise....i run blue thunder fuel (20%) and the truck has maybe gone threw about...30 tanks...also....when i took the ezstart off i found out that it broke 2 teeth of the on of the gears (the middle one) broken off....i mite get a OS engine or even a hpi 15FE cause im low on cash but what will fit? PLEASE HELP ME!!!! AAHHH ...(the truck was nearly always spitting a little fuel fron the flywheel....why...i have no idea)

Sounds like you seriously over-primed your engine, flooding it, and stripping the ez-start. If the engine won't turn over within a couple seconds, pull the plug, turn the truck over, and turn the engine over to empty out the fuel.

Raven_450
01-20-2003, 07:29 AM
also when u turn it over turn it toward the exhaust side cause you will most likely have fuel int he exhaust as well it happened with mine yesterday (not as bad as your problem) but the exhaust had a bout 2-3 teaspoons of fuel in it then of course the glow plug fouled (this is my luck get it to run it stalls and the glowplug fouls)

raderrustler

You already are familiar with the maxx and its characteristics, and the new 2.5 is the most powerful .15 tested by RCCA, I would say get the maxx and enjoy watching this truck shred and I mean shred the ground, throw roost, and wheelie all over the place. It is most Impressive. I have a Mad Force and an X-Factor and the Maxx has the same top speed as the Mad Force and handles better than the X-factor. I like all three trucks because they Are the best of their Kind. The Savage .21 is a 1/8th, heavier, more powerful truck than the maxx. The final choice is yours though.
Randy

nitrorush89

so your telling me that the savage has more power but the maxx has all the other stuf right

gweecho
01-20-2003, 07:30 PM
if you have two maxxes why get the savage?
there really arent that many differances in
the two. savage owner would of course deny
this but what would you truely gain? a .21
engine? the engine the savage comes with
is comparable to your average .15 performance.
the ability to upgrade to a powerful .21 has
not been proven yet.so far it hasent been proven
you can go higher than a 17t cb.its losing dog bones
with stock engine.youve probably heard savage
owner say it will cost you more to convert a tmaxx
to .21 no one seems to consider that by doing the
.21 conversion you will get to choose your own
componants not just accept what comes with a
rtr kit. some thing to think about. i personaly
would go to something totally different from the
two like ek4 or dom or x factor etc.

nitrorush89
01-21-2003, 11:55 AM
your right but is there lots of problems with the t-maxx and what gas should i use

gweecho
01-21-2003, 01:07 PM
20% brand of your liking. i assume you mean what
problems going .21 get supermaxx diffs and tranny
components. but if your not a wrencher go with a
.21 capable truck. the price is about the same. the
difference would be your maxx will have more perfomance
specific components if you build as oposed to rtr.

A bit dissapointed... :( I tend to get a bit eager with the "wd-40" when i clean my maxx after a run and i fear i might have gotten some on the brake disc. I have tried soaking it in alcohol, roughed it up with sanding paper and adjusting the brakes+ being sure of having enough juice in my rx batteries, but the brakes still suck..

I think the solution might be to buy an aftermarket high performance brake kit with a metal disc and calipers with pads??

A bit dissapointed... :( I tend to get a bit eager with the "wd-40" when i clean my maxx after a run and i fear i might have gotten some on the brake disc. I have tried soaking it in alcohol, roughed it up with sanding paper and adjusting the brakes+ being sure of having enough juice in my rx batteries, but the brakes still suck..

I think the solution might be to buy an aftermarket high performance brake kit with a metal disc and calipers with pads??

Jon A

You have to tighten up the linkages. After a while they'll start to stretch some or whatever (I have ad the same problem yall do).
You can either:

A) Tighten up the 2 screws on the caliper a lil bit at a time till it grabs like you want it to.

or

B) Take the collar that is behind the brake arm (looking from the rear of the truck to the front of the truck) and slide it up some. Just keep sliding it forward until the brakes catch however hard you want. Thats what I did, and now they work great.

i am having a little trouble tuning in my motor. i took it to the "local pro" and they helped me break in the truck. then it kept stalling when i brake. so i asked them what to do and they messed with it and got it going good. then the next day the weather dropped 25-30 degrees. it started stalling again, the first time they changed the glow plug before changing settings. so this is what i tried too, but had no improvement. so i turned up the idle but after a few fast runs i pulled it in and counted to ten and the thing jerks and jerks i have to hold the brake. so i turned the idle down and it stalled again. after it stalls it wont restart i have to remove glow plug, turn it upside down, run easy start for a few secs, then it starts. i run it a little and it still jerks. i am freekin' lost! i don't know what to do ! can someone help me? i live in south texas and the weather changes alot one day its 84 the next 55, does this have alot to do with my problems? the day they set the tune it ran good at the track , other than the little jerking, but i never really got to open it up(only one straight-away), the next day it kept stalling , only after it got hot. please help me, i wonder if i am the only one who cant get it right.

and yes i read the t-maxx trouble shooting but it dont think i am reading it right. any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks BOB

A couple of suggestions, consult your manual and go back to factory break-in needle settings. HSN is 4 turns out from closed and the LSN is flush (manual has a pic of this). Outside temp changes of 30 degrees form one day to the next can make a big difference in your tuning. I have found, in my Maxxes case, that the stalling was due to the LSN being a little too lean. www.traxxas.com has a huge section on tuning the 2.5 and if that doesn't help call the traxxas customer service number, they are the best. The jerking is normal when accelarating slowly, it will get better with time. The Tmaxx has clutches in the tranny as well as the clutch bell and if the jerking bothers you, you can buy a "forward-only" conversion from Traxxas that eliminates it completely but also gets rid of reverse.
What fuel and glow plug are you using? Also, in case you aren't aware, www.traxxas.com has a great Tmaxx forum and you will get far more replies there.

thanks robc i appreciate any suggestions since i this is my first nitro truck. i run o'donnels 20% and i got a mcoy plug. since i wrote the questions, i have since ran my truck and kept tinkering with the settings (after going to factory settings), about 20 minutes later,it was running pretty good. i say pretty good didn't quite have the jump of acceleration that it once had. but i was happy that it didn't shut off no more. then i went to the dirt pile out back, climbing and jumping, everything was fine. then i ran WOT in 4" grass for a couple of minutes, it shut off, and it was HOT, a little bit of smoke. so i put some spit and it boiled right away. HOT! so i let it sit til i could touch it. then it sputtered for a while and shut off. after 20 minutes of off and on, i put some fuel in carb. and removed plug and used easy start to blow fuel out, cuz it seemed like it was clogged. put it together and after a few sputters it started idled good and ran like it never did before wheelies and all jumped right off with a little throttle. i am a happy camper. now i got it running good and a cold front come in and all day rain. i am in south texas. i wanted to thank every one in these forums for thier help! THANK YOU!!!!

Glad to hear it's running better. A good thing to think about is a temp device, either an on-board or a IR gun. I personally have the Radio Shack IR which is very accurate and sells for as little as $30 when it's on sale. The 2.5 Maxx's temps tend to rise during the last 1/4 of a tank so try to keep an eye on it and re-fuel often.
I run mine a little rich to keep the temps down but it still rocks. Odonnell is very good fuel, you might want to run the Odonnell RTR fuel because it is 16% oil. If you are still running a little hot try richening the LSN slightly (like 1/8 turn) and see if that helps.

thanks again robc. you seem to be very educated on the truck, and i am glad to hear a response from you. i havent been able to run my truck(45 deg. and raining ) the last couple days. i did however went and bought a on board temp gauge. haven't tried it yet. i am hoping this helps me keep in tune. this weather sucks i just got paid and want to get more hop-ups to try. i am looking for a better air filter and tuned pipe, will these make a BIG difference in my performance? i also ordered a rechargable pack to replace the many, aa batteries i have been going through. however i do buy them at sam's club, 32 AA for $9. energizers too. i found a web site that got 2700 mah 6v pack that mounts right in to the existing holes, even has its own on/off switch and comes with charger. here is the site if you dont know it already. http://www.badhorsie.com . they got a 1900 mah that mounts to the shock tower also. i dont think i will need batteries for awhile once i get it. hey robc what upgrades have you bought for yours so far and how long have you owned it? sounds like you know what is important! thanks, i will wait for your response. Sorry, had to work today. Actually my Maxx is pretty much stock at this point because it's the dead of winter here in Wisconsin and I just bought some new snowboarding stuff. First upgrades for me will be: Traxxas Big Bore aluminum shocks (best price $63 set of 8 @ www.stormerhobbies.com), Pro-line Maxx Mulcher tires, RPM nylon arms (when the stock ones break). The stock air filter is actually pretty cool because the filter holder is cone shaped which is designed to improve airflow. The most popular after-market filter seems to be the Motor Saver filter, I think Tower has the new 2.5 Motor Saver filter for about $15. As far as pipes go, I kind of like the stock pipe because even though it's plastic and ugly, it was designed by Traxxas specifically for this motor. The only legitimate after-market pipe for the 2.5 is the Ritter, which is made by a company that makes motocross tuned pipes, and costs about $50. Some guys are using the Traxxas Blue pipe which was made for the old Trx Pro .15. I'm not planning to buy aluminum plates, arms etc.. because they add weight and can bend and break. The plastic parts are fairly durable and cheap.
I may invest in a after-market cooling head at some point too.

robc, you never commented on those batteries at badhorsie, what do you think of those? i am gonna hold off on buying anything else til i start breaking things. but i like to line up the parts ahead of time, so to speak. i do want to get new shocks though. the sun is finally out after 5 days. i am packing my stuff to head out and play. hopefully i wont have to do much tuning. i have been jonesing for the sound and smell of my truck. i pity those who live up north, at least where i live its usually warm even in winter. todays highs are 67 tomorrow 75. don't mean to rub it in, lol. where in wi do you live robc? i travel with my food booth around the US we come to WI a few weeks during the summer, i would like to get together for some fun. the cities are: baraboo, madison, stoughton, and elkorn. are you close to any of these. it wont be til after the 4th of july, but i'll be there. if you want to bash together let me know. i got a friend that travels too, he is getting a maxx any day now. i will only be on internet for 2 more weeks then our travels start. so if you would like to get together this summer, we need to figure something out. hey 1 quick question, this goes out to everyone. i started using o'donnels 20% since break in but couldn't get any, can i use another brand as long as its 20%?

Day before yesterday I was muddin (and some water) and my truck started cutting out. I thought it had some water or something like that so I ran the tank out. I ended the day, took it home and oiled it up and let it sit for the night. The next day I put some gas in and tried to fire it up. It would not run without the ez start button depressed. All of the servos work, it would rev but when I would let off of the ez start it would die instantly. Please advise!!!

i have, i've even flipped it.....although i was just tuning and i accedently did it, now it dosen't though.......put some spacers in the rear shocks to help stiffen them, you'll get a wheelie. maybe even a flip, you probably will

dan7532

I definitely reccommend reading this: http://rcnitro.com/rn/articles/super_tune.asp
It is a great article on tuning a nitro engine. Read it very carefully and remember what it says. It should help you a lot with tuning your engine and running better.

Here is a good temp gauge that you can use to keep track of your engine's temperature so you won't overheat the engine: http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1&catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F007%5F013%5F003%5F000&product%5Fid=22%2D325
I beleive that it is the same one that robc said that he uses. It should allow you to have a general idea of how your engine is tuned by keeping it within a good temp range (I believe the good range for a nitro engine is something like 220 to 270 degrees Farenheit).

guys, can i gear this T2.5 so that it will make wheelies on command? what for you guys is the best gearing for torque but not compromising the overall speed of the T at the same time.

ayk_driver
02-22-2003, 12:28 AM
could u not just peg the throttle with the 2.5?

Figit090
02-22-2003, 12:32 AM
why do you want to gear it?? you'll lose top speed, and you can just add some of those sock spacers that came with your truck to the rear shocks........that will stiffen them and it will wheelie more eaisly......it also won't squat like it usually does when you peg the throttle, hence the wheelies........the gearing is a lot more work and you can put in the spacers for free..........

i never tried gearing. anyways, i tried putting more spacers at the rear, yup, it made wheelies once i peg the throttle. but i want to experience the rear scrapping wheelie. isnt cheating when you put spacers just to make wheelies? and are there any equivalent OS glow plug for the stock one, just like mc59? mc are not available in our country, just os.

Well I thought this is great! a Tmaxx for the price of a Sportmaxx, they will never be none the wiser! After 2 days of guilt i called them and told them of there error. I have to return the Tmaxx and there sending me the Sportmaxx

You did the right thing, but you could have kept the truck and no one would have been the wiser. At least you were not ridden with guilt for the rest of your life. <LOL> Bottom line though - you deposited good Karma in the bank for future use.

This stuff seems to happen with Tower quite a bit. I do all my business through them and I think they have killer customer service, but I remember I ordered from them about 12 years ago and they sent me two truck kits and only charged me for one. Of course, I sent the extra one back. :-)

My buddy placed an order and there was a .91 nitro engine in the box with his stuff. Rarely have I heard of Tower missing an item in an order, but I frequently hear stories about extra stuff being in the box.

Their year end inventories must be WAY off. <LOL>

I have had my maxx since jan. I have about a gallon run though it so far. I have a few questions though. I noticed lately that it doesn't sound like it is hitting second gear at all. Also I got it to wheelie once. Now I noticed a bunch of fluid under the gas tank on the chassis and all over the underside of the chassis. I am wondering if my tank has a leak in it and is spewing gas all over. Also I think some of the fuel may have worked its way into the clutch cause it sits and revs but barely moves. I have tightened up the spur gear nut. Also when I hit the breaks it will stall! I have treid alot of different needle setting but am getting nowhere. What should I do??

Well I took it all apart last night, found out there is alittle hole in the gas tank, so that might explain the fuel all over the chassis and the truck stalling, But When I took everything off I was looking over the spur gear and noticed I can spin the spur gear while holding the shaft that it sits on. Should I tighten up the nut or should i put some of those new little slipper pads in?? I also took the clutch bell off and scuffed that clutch shoes and clutch bell with steal whool. Annd cleaned the flywheel as well!

I recently got a new T-Maxx and found some great 3 foot dirt piles this past weekend. Needless to say I blew out some of my stock shocks. They came appart at the shock body and cap. I expect this is because they are plastic. I want to get some new shocks that can take the abuse. I'm new to this and don't really know if one brand is better than another. I can't adjust my 2 speed. When I try to turn to the 2 speed to find the adjust screw the whole tranny turns. It seems as if it is locked in first. Any ideas?I have the old maxx tranny. This step below is where i have a problem. The primary gear shaft spins the whole tranny.

Once the access hole is visible, hold the spur gear and use your finger to turn the primary gear shaft counter clockwise which extends from the transmission housing (see photo). Note that you will see two set screws through the access hole. As you turn the primary gear shaft counterclockwise, the first set screw holds the two-speed mechanism to the shaft. Do not loosen this screw. The second set screw is the adjustment screw.

wel.. make sure your carb. is not opened to far on idle because then when you open it up it over does it ,it floods, and quits.

That is not the factor I think that the carbutrator is broken. I tried everything and it still does not work. It only cuts out at high speeds. When I pull the throttle fully is when it cuts out and even if I let it get up to speed before I pull the trigger fully it will still cut out.

Well i have a T-MAXX and its great. High speed but it stalls all the time and will cut off for nothing. Not sure whats the problem i think it could be something with the carb. or like that but it stills runs for long periods of time do i am not worried. I will be getting the Traxxes E-MAXX and a Traxxes STAMPEDE. Hopefully a Traxxes SPORT MAXX in the near future. But i just want to know if other people have this same problem with cuting off?

check your front bearing in the engine for airleaks i was having a problem with mine.it would just dies and run eratic temps.i checked the front bearing by putting a little dish soap on it and blowinto the carb with the intake port in the crank closed.i had huge airbubbles coming out of it.my sirio .18 does it also, non of my other engines do it that bad.they only have tiny bubbles coming out of them

I just got my t-maxx in yesterday and i found out i needed a 7.2 battery stick which i didn't know. Which is a good battery stick? and a good charger? this is my first monster truck by the way. And when i opened it up, you know how if you roll the truck the spur gear will spin well its not spinning. What do I do to fix that?

Chevy _94- The spur gear on a TMaxx isn't supposed to spin when you roll it. Theres nothin wrong. Its because of the clutches and stuff in the tranny.

Y'now, the idea of installin a gas engine in my Maxx crossed my mind. Yea, its kinda heavy and not as powerful (power to weight of engine anyways), but I'm gettin tired of nitro in general. They're just really annyoing engines, and nitro fuel is a bit pricey. Any thoughts? I think it would work if done right.

Yeah I found out when i started in break in process today that the spur gear don't spin thats different than my other models i have had. well i bought the battery stick and i bought the charger 80 bucks all together. i run 20% O'Donell racing fuel is that a good quality fuel for my T-Maxx?

Hi, I am looking into buying a T-maxx rolling chassis and I need to find an engine. I was wondering if a .15 O.S Cv-Rx would work????? If so, what mounts, flywheel, clutch, clutchbell would I need??? Also what is a good heard and exhaust??? Thank you

RHINOCAT i had the same thing happen to me

my problem was that it was too lean if it is still doing that richen her just 1/8th of a turn thats wat i did and it is now in perfect tune and can go at high speeds at WOT forever :D

Chevy, is it cutting out when you give it gas? or just at random times? the first thing i would check is engine temp. it's possible you could be just a bit too lean. try richening it out a hair that should help, if nothing else, richening cant hurt.

I was reading a few posts up, and so, the spur is NOT supposed to spin when you roll it? I dodnt know that, and I just got my first T-maxx today(used .15 model), and i took the tranny apoart because it wouldnt go, and i thought since the spur wouldnt turn the wheels, that something must be wrong. I guess not!! :D Please confirm this though. The reason it wouldnt go then, is because the slipper had no pegs in it. I guess ill have to buy some. Please answer this quick if any of u know. Thanks

I would go down to about an 18-20 tooth clutch bell depending on how much top speed you think you need. An 18 will give you plenty of grunt to turn over those big tires, but might hurt your top end some. A 20t will help you pull those big tires, and you should still have a good top end. Good luck

Hey do you guy's know which is better:  "Pro-Line Bow Tie 40 Series" or "Pro-Line Maxx Bow Tie" I know that the 40's get better traction but I have heard that they break a lot easier.
thanks for any info :D

the 40 series bow tie would be better on blue groove high bite tracks andmaxx bow ties would be more suited for hard packed/damp tracks
