I have been running this car for GS for about a month and I LOVE IT! Its so easy to drive and so easy to set up. Ive been doing realy well at my local club on fioroni tires and a mugen MT12 Engine. Anyone want a low bite asphalt set up give me a shout.

The GS design is quite up to date with the inline fuel tank and all... It comes with a Centax clutch right? I've seen a GS with an RB 5-port in it and it really flies. I think its in the same class as an Impulse or V-One-R/RR... pricing is slightly cheaper at my LHS. A friend wanted to get the V-One-R and the LHS guy said the GS is a better buy (since it includes Centax clutch and body) for only MYR150 more (~USD35). Recently, a GS came out 2nd in the A-Mains at a local race (behind an Impulse), but there was a lot of other Impulse drivers who were impressed with the GS.
Well, its either the V-One-R or the GS for my friend, and he has a hard time deciding.

Hey Stew! Nice to see more of Team GS on here ;)
Im throwing around the idea of getting a Vision soon and thowing an RB 5 port in it... Michael wants me to get one and run it for GS. We have a track up here not that far from me for on-road too... could be fun. Im an off-road guy at heart though and im having tons of fun with my Storm Pro.. its an awesome kit.

Sounds Good! I got a Killer Setup if u do decide to get one or for anyone that wants a setup. The Fioroni Tires have been Great Aswell. By the way, Rzucca, where do u live? How did you get those parts? Im on the team and they arent available to me yet. Just wondered if maybe you got a jump on the parts if you live in europe or something. Well, Thanx.

Tamiya man: one is a pull start. the V12SX is the pull start. Im not sure about the HP ratings or RPM stats.
RZucca: I had my mechanic set my clutch up. Not sure exactly what he did but it is very responsive. Tell me your email address and i will send u my setup sheet.
Is Fioroni going to come out with any aluminum pullies or solid axels or anything of that nature?Thanx!

Hello Rzucca,
I just bought a Vision Pro and I will love to buy the optional parts you have on your car, do you know when they will be available in Horizon Hobby?
I race in Mexico and my Vision Pro will be the first racing here against many Serpents, V-Ones and Mugens. We are like 60 drivers and we have many great tracks. Maybe you know the one in Toluca because we have a World 1/8 Championship some years ago.
We will have an international event for 1/10 in another track on November. Drivers from U.S. of many teams will be here, specially from Serpent. I will gladly represent GS with the Vision Pro. I think I´m a good driver, I´m in the top 5 of the 1/8 with the MRX3.
I want to know if you can help me setting the car?.
If you want I can send you more information on the event.
David.

I am also wondering if a side exaust, recoil engine with pipe and manifold would work. Also what type of crankshaft would i need? I am looking into a beginer engine and here is my choice:
Dynamite .12-.15 PS: Universil-crank DYN6500
Dynamite .12-.15 Exaust Manifold Recoil DYN6601
Dynamite 1/10 Sport Tuned Pipe DYN6604
i appreciate all repys..thanks

The car only comes with a manifold for a rear port engine, and i dont think that a recoil will clear the brace. It does come with both nuts thow, one for SG style crank, one for standard. If u want a good priced engine for that car consider the GS V12 engine. It is available in pull start but again, im not sure if it will clear the brace. Have fun decideing and let me know if there are any more questions.

Tamiya Man
09-11-2002, 08:34 PM
would u happen to have an old pull start engine lying around to test fit and see if it interferes with the brace? The GS v12 would be a good choice, but if the recoil interfears then there is a problem. this will really affect my choice because:
(1).I want to get the vision pro, but if i need a bump start engine it would set me back like a couple hundred for an engine and stater box, or i could by an engine are remove the pull start.
(2)Even converting to bump start it would cost me at least 170 for box and engine
Please help if u can
Thanks

Recoil start engin can't fit in Vision Pro due to the side belt position.
Cheeper solution GS engine & eco starter box.

that sux..107.99 for gs engine...plus like 60 for starter box...plus 15 for stick pack(have 1 from tl-01)...plus support equipment(glow plug wrench, extra glow plug, glow plug ignighter, fuel, etc...)....and 1 servo..10.99(standard)....well that blows the gs out of my dreams for a while...........mabe the yokomo Gt4 pro(or r version)....with pull start yokomo engine(bout 59.99)
That sux
O well.....mabe next year:( :( :( :(

here is my special plan...after looking at ultimate hobbies i saw the msx-3(mugen) for i think 249.99. I get that.....then i will have the money for a starter box right away...then after a bit i could get a decent engine and pipe.........since it comes with support equipment.glow plug igniter(other stuff)i wouldnt need anything else really...i think..........then by working in the summer i could save up for the vision and just transfer the engine and pipe to the vision.
Cool huh...not really, but it might work:D :D :D
Hope to aquire the gs sometime in 2003

Well.. looks like im going to have to hold out on my Vision Purchese till next Spring. Many reasons..
1) Limited Money supply right now
2) I need a new engine.. new rx.. new starter.. new pipe/manifold ect.
3) The only close track will be closing for the winter in a few weeks.
4) This would be my first on-road (besides a micro).
So im going to wait till next Spring when i can devote some money and track time to learning to drive this new beast :-) I will be happy to represent GS when that time comes.
Stewie... E-mail me that setup sheet you have.. i will upload it (if i havnt already) to teamurc.com for ya.

Well,
I just got back from the last leg of the Michigan Onroad Racing League in Adrian MI. I took First Place Nitro Foam A Main with my trusty Vision. Car ran great on my Fioroni foam tires. Big thanx to General Silicones for their support.
Yeah, u can get them but the are a pain in the butt. its basicaly a big motor with a rubber wheel on the end with a switch u press that spins it then u just place it up to ur fly wheel. Have Fun.

Hey kawada kid, Do your parents like let you out of school and stuff to go race or what? I think thats awesome if they do. What did you do to get sponsored?
KawadaKid
09-17-2002, 12:00 AM
Sometimes, only fer realy big races thow. Like, most regional races around here are one day deals but some of the dirt races are friday saturday races. In those cases i usualy just miss the practice day or whatever. This year will probably miss a day for cleveland. Not much thow.
On getting sponsored: Just work hard, practice alot and become one of the top guys in ur club. Most companies would like nats. winners, but thats not all they are looking for. Sometimes just being one of the top guys in ur area is good enough. Good luck.

Did you pay for all your cars and stuff until you got sponsored or did your parents help you out with stuff? how many years have you been racing?
I am 14 and i am trying real hard to get good at the local track. Only thing is I have to pay for my race days and tires and gas and hopups. Hopefully one day i will get a sponsor. Maybe in a few years when i am sponsored i will be up against you:D
Good luck with your racing career. I think that would be the coolest job in the world....R/C driver for trinity (since i race the reflex:p )

All belt driven cars share this 'weakness'. You can use aluminium option parts. But that's about it....else, try to find paved surfaces.:D :D

I thought so. The thing is, the car would be going very fast, and perhaps the small pebbles would bounce off from the belts and sprockets. I like this car, it seems pretty well built for the price and all.

does the vision pro include just the header, or header and pipe together?
if just the header, is it a basic one designed to be coupled by silicone tube?
as for sealed gear diffs...any leaking problems?...
does it include a one-way or ball diffs?
any info and comments would be appreciated....
i cant decide b/t a number of different cars

Archerboi- I Ran this car all last summer here in Michigan on parkinglot surfaces to smooth permanent tracks and only once did i have a rock in my belt. All i had to do was roll the car backwards to loosten it and off i went.
Talley Racing 2- Fioroni is working on a oneway and solid axle and will be out in the near future. I dont know of any lowered body mounts. Maybe Kawahara parts will fit...Not sure.
RC4me2- I ran The Vision Pro stock here in Michigan and raced very competitively at my local track and accross the state. The car is very smooth and easy to drive right out of the box.
The car includes a rear exhaust round port style header designed to be coupled with a Silicone Coupler (included). There is no pipe included but i recomend a Fioroni Power pipe (part # ot-ma02).
The car includes sealed gear diffs. No ball diffs available. I wouldnt recomend them anyways. No oneway included. Fioroni is coming out with one shortly. I filled my Diffs at the begining of the season and never took them apart. They held the oil very well.
Anything else you would like to ask, feel free to email me.
KawadaKid@hotmail.com
RCabj-I also had a problem with the drive shafts in the front. If you remove the set screw from the cvd and take the bone out there is a slot to put a dogbone in. I dont know what size dogbone you will need or if it is available. I think you would be better off ordering replacements of the stock drive units.

hello...kawadakid...i have replaced those uni drive shaft with dogbone including the (i don't know what's the name, but after i dissamble the uni drive shaft u get 2 major parts..the shaft and the housing...) so the housing is a new one that comes one set with the dogbone...
it fits better then the original housing but its longer by 1 mm...so i get this 1mm gap each side..
also need to drill a bit the hexgon thing where the tires go in...well thats about all...
i've tried out a few runs with the new
dbone and so far the car responses seems to be the same like before...
so i guess i won't get to worry about the front shaft being broken again...only the rear ones..heheh...
for precautions i secure the dbone to the shock tower with a cable tie so if it were to come off
it'll be hanging around...ok..bye

The GS Vision car is actually quite decent, but you would have to spend hundreds upon hundreds to get it at that quality. If you are talking about out-of-the-box comparison with Serpent, Trinity (sucks compared to the Vision Pro), and Mugens, I would say that Serpent and Mugen are better out of the box. However, Team Associated is THE best 1/10 scale car out there. It is so easy to tune, and driving it is a blast! The GS Vision Pro car is a work of art. I would say that it is Second to AE's NTC3. For a Serpent, you will spend a month building it since the quality control team at Serpent is currently in a coma. You have to modify parts like mad to make them work. Mugens are, well, Mugens. They are OK. Not a big fan of Asian produced cars because they are mass produced at rip off prices for mass production. If you dont believe me, go to Asia one day, and look at their prices compared to ours.
I tried to keep my comment as neutral as possible about the Vision Pro. I think it is a wonderful car. I am a 1/8 scale driver and own 2 SMP Slides (Best cars on earth) and 1 Serpent Veteq 2002 (Going to see how it fares against SMP Slides). I will get back into 1/10 scale one day. But I know if I do, it will be a GS Vision Pro 2 in my possesion. =)

Yes, the kit does contain a manifold and pipe. Our store carries the kits with the pipe and manifold.
The car is quite durable once Fioroni parts are used. Out of the box, it may withstand a couple "pillow" hits to the wall.
Parts availability depends on the availability of the distributor. My store rarely has GS parts in stock because our distributor does not have the parts that often. And no, they are not in most hobby shops because they prefer HPI. Don't ask why.
GS Visions are uncommon. Most hobby stores have not realised their potential yet.
Your welcome! =)

If you are talking about the Vision Pro Kit, Mine did not include a pipe. Im really not sure about the standard kit.
My hobby shop does not carry Vision parts but it is not hard for them to order them.

hello..guys...
just wanted to share with u guys my achivement
in ky first ever official race 1/10 nitro race...
the track
not so technical but the timber planks used for the track was quite dangerous if u ever feeling
like kissing one of them...
the surface was so smooth (actually the track was on a tennis court that was going to be upgraded later on)
on the day of the practice session..a couple of
the guys tried out different range and type of tyres...foam tyres were definitely out of the list.
rubber/slick tyres seems to be more suitable..
so the day came at last...there were at least 40 drivers...and were divided to 5 groups and i was on the A group...u should know how i felt for a novice...
so ok..i'll try to shorten this essay of mine..
there were 3 heats/per 5 minute each :
1st heat...i was no 4 with 11 laps
(i was very nervous and so careful)
2nd heat... 2nd position with 15 laps
3rd heat... 3rd position with 15 laps -at this stage i was buliding my confidence and handling)
after the heat was over i was hoping at least i'll get into the c main...but to my astonishment
i was in the B main...
so the time came again the B main...on the fisrt
15 minutes it was going really great ,i could even hear the announcement announcing i was behind the leader by one lap ( he was 53 laps )and after that
something happen where i went and slam under the 2" x 3" timber stuck ...my pitman races to the car
i broke half of the tank cover...and the steering servo acting weirdly...but i still continue the race...some how i was able to finish the race with 64 laps..(fuel wis all over my car)- the top guy was 74.
anyway i was still happy even though i could have
finish at least 3rd...but this is experience...
i think i was too excited and eager which force me to do silly mistake before slam the timber...well at least for a 1st timer...
getting to the B main was a bonus...
the heat was 25 minutes long...and it was the best ever driving... sorry guys for the long essay...
my setup...
my GS was stock out of the box with my OS 12 tr
plus i used HPI 35R with hard insert front and medium rear...the front shock was hard..and
the rear was medium...
thanks ...need to get a new tank later
(one of the best stuff on the track was coming into the tightest turn (where the transponder sensors were) and going on the main long stretch with full throttle and just before the right hander releasing the throttle with no brakes and full throttle again into the 2nd medium stretch)
glad to have shared this experience with u guys and sorry 4 this long long message guys....

forgot to mention mostly the other drivers were either using the serpents, V 1rr, thunder tiger

In the pictures I saw of the Vision in this same forum the car has 30mm rear tires, but in my car I have to modify the rear hubs to put them and obviously they get weaker and break. Which is the best way to do this? Do you know if there is an optional part to put 30mm rear tires without modifications?
Thank you.
David.

I guess my first question is what kind of tires are you using? I had no problem with Fioroni 30mm tires all year. I didnt have to make a modification. The only thing I can suggest is to try a different tire. I highly recomend Fioroni tires.

i was having a bit of a problem regarding
the thrust bearing for the centax clutch
where it will break sooner or later and this cost money...heh
last week i met somebody who changes the centax clutch to the old system' using the clutch bell
with 3 piece shoes for bashing or practice...he uses the centax only for races...
why didnt't i think of this before...heh

I have a GS Vision Pro for sale, it has been completely assembled but has never been run. It has an RB .12 engine w/SG crank and a trinity receiver pack, a Futaba S9405 steering servo and a standard Futaba S3003 throttle servo. Has new foams on the car and an extra set of foams still in the package for the car.
Paid $320 + tax for the car
Paid $190 + tax for the motor
Paid $95 + tax for the servo
Paid $32 + tax for the receiver pack
Paid $20 + tax for the throttle servo
Paid $58 + tax for the extra set of tires
Paid $30 + tax for the pipe
This car has not had one drop of gas in the car, it is just like buying one completely assembled from a hobby shop. Body has been painted and cut. Motor still needs to be broke in. I have $750+tax in the car, but i know if you order it you usually dont pay tax and you might not like my paint job. I am asking $650 for the car, similar setups are awesome and blazing fast. This is a BRAND NEW CAR!! I have pics of the stuff and more in depth detail if needed, my email is lxlaw@sc2000.net and phone is 956-457-1101

Well the reason guys are trying these cars over the TC3 is reliability. The TC3's are fragile. Everytime you turn around you break. So if you are a half a lap ahead, it wont matter if you get bumped into a wall and break. I am an off-road guy, and bought one of these to compete, but my 1/8 scale broke, so i need to repair it and focus on what i am decent at racing rather than something new, LOL. These have internally adjustable pistons in the shocks for easy dampening changes, a thick chassis, a truly world class car. GS really did their homework. I wish i could afford to race it, but right now i cant. Someone can really benefit if they are looking at buying a new one.

only broke 3 parts in this period...the steering servo saver,
the universal shaft, and the tank lid cover( this lid cover was the only broken parts when i hit

all this happen separately...still haven't change

Hello my friends,
I just purchased a vision pro and have a few questions. While reading the manual, it says to use 7000 wt diff lube for the front and 3000 wt in the rear. And it also calls for 3000 wt diff lube in the shocks. What is 3000 diff lube equivilent to in shock wt oil? To me, 3000 wt looks like maybe 80 or 90 wt shock oil. I have already bought the 7 & 3000 wt diff lubes and I currently have a variety of shock wt oil from my previous cars. I was just wondering what the conversion is, or do any of you have a suggestion for a starting point for the shock wt oil? Thank you for your time.

don't really know about the conversion...
but for your info i've use the 1000 cps shock oil
thats come with the kit...seems ok to me..already

if there r any difference...

don't forget those shocks r adjustable...;)

i've used 3000 cps diff oil that comes with the kit initially for the front and rear diff.....

I ran 60w oil all the way round in my shocks, and 50,000 diff lube in the front and 5,000 in the back diff. I dont know any conversion. Try GS Red springs in front and GS Blue springs in back. Stock sway bar in back and Fioroni blade sway bar recomended for the front. Any other questions email me, i should be able to get ur car pretty well hooked up.

Be sure to super glue the brake pad material to the "calipers". This will help prevent brake fadeing. Also, make sure that u use the softer of the two springs when building the clutch and apply thread locking compound to the clutch adjustment nut.

KawadaKid
03-14-2003, 07:00 PM
I was told by Garen from General Silicones a while back to use the softer spring so that is what I will recomend. The hard one does not work properly sometimes, or at least the ones included in earlier kits.

Another question for you. When measuring the width of the car(200 mm), do I measure it with the tires on or do I leave the tires off and just measure axle tip to axle tip?
KawadaKid
03-17-2003, 08:12 PM
First, i would find the center of the car then measure from the center to the outside of the wheel then do the same to the other side. Its key to makesure that its even on both sides.
Has anyone had a problem with the rear dogbones being to long? Using the factory settings, the pivot balls are in to far, causing the bone to hit against the diff when the bone is level, and not allowing the arm to go up any further.
Am I missing something?
KawadaKid
03-19-2003, 10:31 PM
Hmm, This is a new one to me....
I would try using settings other than the manual and re check ur width and toe in the back. If changing that doesnt help, E-mail me and i can help you furthermore.
Steven S.,
GS Racing Team
I realize the same problem in my car. If you want to make your car less than 200 mm in the rear, the dogbones hit against the diff when the suspension travels downwards. It helps removing some material in the pivot balls making them flat.
KawadaKid
03-20-2003, 03:15 PM
Well the car was built to be run at 200mm width. Every setup i have produced or seen has called for the car being as wide as legaly possible....200mm. Remember Ponitiac....Wider Is Better. Why do u run ur car less than 200mm?

03-24-2003, 02:44 AM
i'm not talking about the shore here...
u see the kit comes with foam tires that's equal
width front and rear...(26 mm )
then there's another combo like 26mm front and 30
mm rear....
so which is better especially for this gs car since it came stock with the first combo..
thanks...;)
KawadaKid
03-24-2003, 03:13 PM
I ran the car on either, usualy it just depended what GS Had available. The 30mm tires give u more traction in theory simpley because they have a bigger foot-print or contact patch. I would say the advantage is most noticable in strait line traction. Any other questions feel free to e-mail me.

i like it a lot. it was a pain to build though because the screw holes were extra tight. i guess thats a good thing though. i had to pull out my electric screw driver.
to those of you who have built it, please tell me i'm not the only one who had trouble putting on those "c" clips for the 2 spur gears. those things were super hard to put on  i managed to get them on but i was tempted to toss it at one point. i hope i never have to take that whole piece apart.
i know i'm going to love this car, i know i'll like it better then the ntc3 i had because there is no slop in the steering or suspension like the ntc3 had. also, i love the fact that they give out a lot of plastic spacers so that your setup up is more precise and you dont have to rely so heavily on setup boards and gauges. now i'm waiting for my xxtra to arrive so i can take it for my first spin.
good job GS :D
KawadaKid
06-04-2003, 07:58 PM
Yeah, those C-clips are tough. I highly recomend going to the car parts store and buying a good c-clip spreader tool. they are like pliers but they have small little tips that fit in the C-clips holes and when you squeez, they open. Probably run you $15-$25.
nitrothugg
06-04-2003, 08:32 PM
yeah, i knew there might be some sort of tool for that. i bent one side and placed it on the housing, then pulled the other over with a needle nose.
also, have any of you tried that side exhaust manifold that trinity made for the reflex? kyosho has one for the v1rr also. anyway, i ordered one to see if it will fit the vp since all three have similar engine layouts.
garen
06-05-2003, 01:13 PM
The correct tool is called a Snap Ring Plier. You can get a cheap one for $2-$3 at Harbor Frieght, or get a good one with extra tips, and will last you forever from Home Depot or OSH for $15-$20.
All the plastic screw holes are triangle shaped, and although it makes for a longer building time, the chances of a screw coming loose are reduced. Regardless, fast building time does not equate to fast lap times.
I don't think you will be able to fit a side exhaust engine/header in the Vision Pro.
Jitters
06-05-2003, 01:33 PM
Garen's right about the pliers. Also, tight screw holes shouldn't be attacked with an electric screwdriver. You can put beeswax on the screw to make it easier or, more properly, tap out the hole first. LHS have small tap & die sets that are just right for building kits. $5 or $6 spent on a $300-$700 kit makes sense.
IMO, building a kit is 90% of the fun. If you take shortcuts you'll never really be pleased with your work and it will bite you in the ass later. In my case, I enjoy really complex models. That's why I have 7 helicopters built, but I'm too busy to fly them cuz I'm back to building RC cars.
Take pride in your work then, when your at the track or just bashing, you'll know that your machine won't break or fly apart like some other players out there.
That's my 2 cents worth, getting off the soapbox now.

Can someone please explain how exactly you adjust the clutch and how it affects performance?
Thanks

U need a 1.5mm wrench to put into the hole one your clutch bell. Turn the flywheel over until the wrench slides into the notch on the clutch nut. Turn the Flywheel clockwise to lossen the clutch nut (makes the clutch engage quicker) or counter clockwise to tighten the clutch nut (makes the clutch engage later).

Garen or Kawadakid,
Have either one of heard of if/when GS or Fioroni will release a front one-way or solid rear? I know you have this question a lot so any news would be appreciated.
Thanks

darkangel-I'm guessing your running on a pretty big track since your asking about a 1way and solid rear axle..But I run on small parking lot tracks so i'm going to experiment with a solid front axle since it worked well on the Impulse/705.

It's pretty good sized, 175 ft X 90 ft. I'll be racing at MHOR in denver on August 3, but their on road track will fit inside the one I normally race on. Most of the top guys are running front ways, and only one is running both the one-way and solid rear. Pretty nice track. Ours is temp., so we have to set it up on every race day. I don't mind, at least the track changes, some-what. Always a long back straight into a sweeper. That's what we get for playing with 1/8 scales.

2x2x1? I think that's a bit big. The battery casing is something like, 2. x .75 x 1.25. I ended up using the Team Orion 1100 mah micro pack, and moving one battery so they are in straight line. Perfect fit.

1. Does anyone use an AMB personal tansponder? If so, can you post a pick of where you mount it?
2. This pivot ball suspension is new to me. I understand that you use the clips so that you know that the balls are set equal on both sides, but do you still need a gauge to set everything up? For example, if I have a 2mm camber clip in the bottom front and a 1mm clip in the top, how do I know how many degrees of camber I have?
Thanks
darkangel
07-20-2003, 10:15 PM
I just got my AMB transponder today. I mounted it inbetween the front uprights with the cord going through the front shock tower and underneath the sway-bar.
I tried using the camber clips, but they kept on falling off. Just be sure to keep both sides equal (use a ruler or caliper). Hudy, Integy, and Fioroni all make decent set-up fixtures. Don't have one yet but will in near future.
garen
07-21-2003, 12:32 PM
You can tape or glue the AMB to the side of your throttle servo. You can also purchase a AMB mount from Team Jibroni (sorry don't have the info with me). This mount clips to the existing mount and holds the new AMB's in place.
You do not need a gauge if you use the clips, but you should have at least a cheap camber gauge (RPM, etc.) Set your front camber so that the tires wear flat, often there is no need to measure the camber. Set the toe in the rear using the clips, and again, set the camber so that the tires wear flat. You can get a setup gauge to check the rear toe, but again, set it so that you have enough rear grip.
These clips should not fall out, if they are you are doing something wrong....don't tighten the pivot balls so that they squeeze the clips out of place.
crackerjack
07-21-2003, 02:41 PM
Garen - thanks for the info on the transponder mount. I'll look for one. As far as the camber clips, how do I know how much camber each clip will give me, or is it trial and error.
Thanks
KawadaKid
07-21-2003, 06:32 PM
your best bet is to get a camber gage. The RPM one is good and is no more than $10. Use the clips on the bottom piviot balls just to make sure the cars width is even on both sides, then use the gage to check your camber.
crackerjack

1. if the thrust bearing is still in place ( i mean all the small balls) is still intact , is it considered still okay, and
2. if its ok...does the wearing out of the washer( inside and outside off the bearing effects the performance..?
u see i am having problem the 2 speed enganging pretty quickk....from my past experience 2 things that causes the quick shifting is either broken thrust bearing or the spring tension inside of the 2 speed ishifting no longer good. got to change to new spring.

garen
07-28-2003, 12:12 PM
If the thrust bearing balls are in place, the bearing is likely still good. I don't know what you can do to the clutch to make the thrust washers wear out. I have never experienced poor shifting because of the thrust bearing going bad.
Keep the thrust bearing greased, leave a little play for the clutchbell, and you'll be fine.

I have a gearing question for those who race their VP. This weekend, I am racing in Vacaville California on a newly built perm. race track behind the Old Nut Tree. The track is 100 x 200 feet (straight will be 190 feet), I will be running the VP in the open class with an OS .12 Turbo engine. My question is this, what would be a good starting point for gearing? I haven't been to the track yet, but I'm pretty sure that with the stock gearing, I will top out well before the end of the straight. Thanks.

congrads. i tried that gearing on my track, going to go one tooth up on second spur and one tooth down on first spur gear. Wasn't getting to speed quick enough.
KawadaKid
08-25-2003, 01:24 PM
I went up one on my second gear pinion.
rc_king1
08-25-2003, 02:40 PM
The gearing that Garen mentioned shouldn't have affected your take off. It was suppose to increase the top end of the car. The standard gearing was topping out approx. 3/4 of the way down the straight. And with the change, I was topping out just before the sweeper. The car had great top end.
The gearing that was recommended is the opposite of what you are saying. Yes, the second gears were affected, but the pinion went up one tooth and the spur went down one tooth, wich will increase the top end. What you described would decrease the top end. Is that what you meant?
KawadaKid has the right idea for more top end.
Let's keep up this forum because it is very informative. Garen, one last thing. Thank you for the info on the front way. I had my LHS check on them and they are available for $50. I was able to get a part number for the locked rear diff also, but it isn't available yet.
darkangel
08-25-2003, 09:37 PM
my current gearing is what garen had suggested. but i plan on moving to 14/18 and 46/44 so i can get a little more speed on the infield and get up to speed a little quicker on the back straight. the back straight on the track i run on is a little bit shorter (about 25 ft shorter) than the track you run on. and i have to contend with high altitude robbing a little power from the engine. You can get the front one-way from Horizon for $44.

"but i plan on moving to 14/18 and 46/44 so i can get a little more speed on the infield and get up to speed a little quicker on the back straight."
the 18/44 combo will work on a shorter track, but the 14/46 will give you less infield "pop" compared to a 14/47. Also your gear mesh might be a little hard to set just right.

What's the skinny on the new parts coming out for the VP? If you check out the GS web page from Europe, they mention that there are 25 new Al. and graphite parts coming out and that we need to check with our LHS. Are these parts made by Fiorni or are the being made by GS? Thanks.

wassup guys. in a few weeks i'm racing my VP in an endurance race. i got a good idea of things i should prepare for but will you guys list tips from your experiances. i'm not a weekend racer, more of a basher so this is a big deal for me.:D
darkangel
09-18-2003, 10:17 PM
My biggest advise for you is to relax and drive within your own abilities. Try to keep off the walls which becomes a big thing in an endurace race. The more you are on the track to more laps you get. Most of the time, especially in long races, people will drop out due to car problems, i.e. engine stalls, running into objects, etc. Make sure you get some practice and get the car setup to where you are comfortable with it.
Most important when racing: HAVE FUN and don't get too competitive.
garen
09-19-2003, 02:52 PM
Those parts are being produced by GS Racing. Contact your distributor for more info. Most of the aluminum stuff is not just pulleys. The only graphite piece I know about is the front bumper support plate.
For the endurance race, have extra batteries on hand (if you are racing past 1 hour), lots of trued tire sets, glow plugs, and just drive clean.

garen

there are too many things that can cause an overheating. if you think the body is the problem, run the car without the body to see if it overheats. if it does not, then make sure you have cooling holes in the body. if the car won't shift at all, then check/replace the 2 speed. if your fuel is fresh, then fuel is likely not the source of the problem. your engine may have problems, can't really help you without seeing it or knowing more about it.
chances are your tune is off. install a new plug, richen the settings, and start over.

Well, my clutch has been running fine for a couple of months. During the first heat today, it starts to slip. No matter how I adjust it, it slips. Could the clutch pad be shot? How long do they normally last?
Also, what are the advantages of the Fioroni clutch?
Thanks
KawadaKid
10-11-2003, 07:12 PM
The Fioroni Clutch uses 3 flyweights instead of the steel balls. Its lighter which = less rotating mass plus its supposed to be more consistant. Im not sure how long the stock pad lasts, ive always used the Fioroni Aluminum pad which i highly recomend. Garen might be able to give you a little more info on the clutch.

Do you have to "mess" with your clutch much? I'm really getting tired of not being able to race because of the clutch. If the Fioroni will fix it, I'd get it. But I really don't want spend $50 + and have the same problem.
darkangel

Hope that helps.

hi guys.... i sorted out my problems in my previous posting...
turn out to be 2 major faulty...
1. i got a loose conrod....bush is no more fit.
2. and loss of compression (i took off the extra shim i added before)......
so all the overheating and stalling was due to the engine part.
still got a lot to learn....maybe my driving is getting better and better but the technical thing (i'm having difficulty tuning the engine)...most people here says novarossi's is bit hard to tune but once its tune right nothing can't come near...
ok....another race another lesson....hope this coming weekend race would give better results...thanks guys...

Once my clutch is set it doesnt require constant maintenance. It isnt a bad idea to check the pad now and then though. What i would check on your is 1. check the spring or try a different one, 2. make sure there is a healthy dab of lock tight on the adjustment nut.

Go to www.4acesracing.com for pics/results.
I'll have a race report on gsracing.com this week.
You can run 30mm tires in the rear and 36mm in the front. Depending on the brand of tires used, you may find rubbing on the rear hubs. You may need to remove some material from the rear hubs and using an xacto, cut the inside of the wheel at a 45 degree angle.
