on my dumas scarab s, i have a 30cc homelite weed wacker engine and the exhaust goes out the engine on the port side of the boat and then has a strait pipe to get it out of the inside of the boat. the only problem is how the tube faces forward and i get the unburnt oil splashing onto the deck. should i flip the muffler over 180degrees or should i just try to get a new pipe?
thanks
tommy

Try flipping the muffler first, but make sure your sealing gasket doesn't get torn in the process. Some Homelites have a simple mounting setup on the exhaust that will allow you to flip the unit, yet you'll need to check the bolt pattern to ensure that the rotation trick will work on your engine. Another way to re-route the gases would be to have the muffler body altered as/in sealing-up the forward exit and welding-on a new tip to either the top or rear of the exhaust. For a better idea of this technique, checkout the mufflers used on the Warehouse Hobbies/Enforcer series of Homelite-powered boats via their website.

Hope this helps,
RickE

HyperBaja,

What fuel/oil mixture are you running? Because you should not get a whole lot of oil out the exhaust... I think you can run those homelites at 40:1... but be sure to check the engine's manual. Also, a rich running engine will splatter oil all over the place.

i re tuned, it was running a bit rich, i also use a 50:1 ratio

No...sorry! I mean in rpms when set to a normal idle.

If your Homelite has a clutch setup, set it so the clutch hasn't engaged and go a tiny bit rich on the low-speed jet. Usually one turn out on each mixture screw is the starting point and once you're happy with engine's acceleration, set the idle-but always do it when the engine's good and warmed-up.
