I am thinking of putting a 6 turn p-94 motor with a ICP v6 esc. is the motor going to be to weak? and is it going to be a lot faster then a stock 550 motor with a traxxas XL1 esc? please give some suggestions.
thanks

even as a begginer i would have to say that it is a good setup and would definately go faster than a 550 good luck with your motor.:D

I would never use such a low turn motor in a boat. I would say that you might wanna try a 15 turn motor at first. Anything would be faster than the stock motor, but the 6 turn will probebly blow your ESC and give to 30 second run-times. And if you don't prop the boat right, the 6 turn could even be slower.

my p-94 ran perfectly with my pro 2 with the right gear. and what propeler should I get?

Boats pull many more amps than cars do with the same motors. You'll be lucky if you can turn an Octura X427 with that motor and not burn something up.

I would recommend something around a 15 to 19 turn motor if you wish to keep it a brushed motor. But you might wanna look into investing in a nice brushless set-up that will provide more power, more run-time, faster speeds and much less maintenance. Also, a brushless system, while more expensive in the begining will save a lot of money in the long run because it won't wear out.

A good brushless set up would be a Lehner Basic motor (type 3100 would be perfect), which you can get at www.rumrunnerhobbies.com for only $99.

Controllers is where it can get more expensive. A good one would be the LMT 1840 (Micro 18 series) also available from RumRunner Hobbies, for $153. It can handle up to 18 cells and 40 amps continuous, which should be more than enough for your application. A controller that I use is the Jeti JES 70-3P Opto, available from www.hobby-lobby.com for $119 (up to 16 cells and 70 amps). But for your boat, you could probebly get the Jeti 40-3P (12 cells and 40 amps continuous), which is only $95. These are both airplane controllers, but with some fiddling with the settings on your transmitter, they work great in boats. You can see the Jeti controller page here: http://www.hobby-lobby.com/jetibrushless.htm

So, for as low as $194, you can get a brushless system for your boat that will provide more run-time and power than a P-94. Also, it will never wear out.

thanks for the info. so the ipc v6 wouldnt work that well?

The IPC V6 will not work with brushless motors, period.

As for regular brushed motors, it will work... but I still wouldn't recommend it. While it should perform okay, if you get a drop of water into the ESC (which you probebly will by putting it into a boat), you will more than likely fry it. If you'd like to stay with brushed motors then try out an ESC from www.rc-hydros.com These ESCs are totally water proof and are pretty much the best in the brushed-motor boat field.

Pinky

if the hull is 22" and surface drive go to a 14/3 arm and X632 prop : and

if it is submerged drive 16-17/3 turn with a x427 on a 20-22" hull

This will get you out of it for the least money and ensure your motor repair bills are not too high

For a brushless motor combo you are looking at from $179 - altho for smaller hull 18-20" you can get cheaper if you talk to the right people

19t Chameleon is the choice,,, but only for 2min competition, or it'll burn up,,, unless maybe water cooled,,,
