Hi gents !
I just got rid of a tamiya dark impact to buy the new lazer ZX5.
At least this one handles correctly the power of my Novak 6.5 !
Here are a few pictures, but I wonder if it wouldn't be a good idea to start a new thread, as there is some very old cars in this one !

And with a Porsche 235mm bodyshell to gat a Porsche 959 Dakar like (remember this car racing the Paris-Dakar in the 80's??? ) :

Went on the pavement as well, with only 2WD after a crash from a colleagues wich bended my transmission axis !!!

Once the transmission was back to 4WD, we found a bigger parking and I find that I'm a little bit undergeared on this one :

Djioul - Its okay to post here about your ZX-5. I'm the one who started this thread many years ago. Back then Kyosho offroad 4wd were dead and all we have was what was left of the Lazer ZX's and ZXR's. Some people have been fortunate to get their hands on the Japan only ZXS's and Specials.
However, I think that the popularity of this thread is probably one of the main reasons Kyosho brought back the Lazer in the form of the ZX-5. I too have one myself powered by a 5.5. I also have a Dark Impact but never spent much time on it because it was very costly just to upgrade it with parts to where the ZX-5 was out of the box. Yet I like the DI's battery layout vs. the ZX-5. I am curious as the what handling problems did you have with the DI that you don't have with the ZX-5?
Welshy - Are you still out there? Some time ago I said that I was planning on letting go some of my Lazer stuff and I still intend to. Its just that I've had some health problems in the past year or so that has hindered me from doing any much work hobbywise.
I plan on just compleing one of my chassis (ZXR) with just about everything I have barring a few essential spares and then letting go of the rest. I moved recently and I am just getting to re-organize all my parts. If you guys can be patient, I will be posting all the things I have to offer in the coming months. Just an idea of what I have, I have a couple of other ZXR chassis, a ZX roller, an Optima Mid Special roller, a bunch of Lazer Alpha chassis and parts and some Lazer ZX & ZXR upgrades. I'll try to itemize with pics in the coming months.
Again keep it going guys! Good to see it still going strong.:)

I'm not sure what OT93 is, maybe I'll dig around and see.
For now I've somewhat lost interest in running offroad electric, doing mostly onroad TC's, so all that stuff just sits. Aside from the boxes of Lazer parts being kicked around in my garage, there's also boxes of Yokomo YR parts and rollers as well as boxes of TF4s and KX-1s I have just sitting around.
I have thought about taking one of the TF4s and building it into an offroad buggy. Its just a matter of fabbing some taller shock towers for the offroad shocks. Or even building an offroad version of the KX.
All that, takes time and some money which I don't have too much of at this time because I'm spending it elsewhere on other things like gas for my Goat. Hey Welshy, how about bringing back a few barrels of petrol for me from Venezuela? I need 94 or better if you can.:D

Hehehe mate I wish, but the country is stupid, as the dictator has basically no rules so robbing (which is what they did with my luggage) is legal. The troops decided to go through all the luggage in our plane and took what they liked, even our duty free. Hugo Chavez needs to be shot, the poverty is awful in this country, he is taking all the properties and businesses from the wealthy and taking all the oil money for himself, as well as the drugs he is dealing with and doesnt care about the people in his country. He just takes for himself. He is also arresting all opposition party leaders and putting them into prison for life sentances, as he will not accept being beaten. HE is a dictator.
Any way I hope you have the parts that I am after. Let me know. Cheers.

OT-93 is the front bumper for the Lazer.
So thats what it is. Judging by by the part number, it must also be the bumper from the Optima Mid. Don't have any new in the package. I think I might have a few loose laying around. Not exactly new. Some with some abuse and some with few.
Welshy - are you talking about the center gear parts like the center oneways? I have a few reverse oneways and some non-oneway center gear holders. I have lots and lots of belt guides and covers for Lazer ZX and a few FRP chassis for both ZXR and ZX.

I have managed to get the rear belts for the Lazer ZXS, and boy did I pull a few favours from Kyosho Japan. I have to admit that these guys really are top, in all fields of service. They certainly know how to show us all how to do it. They actually searched the whole warehouse for me (with no luck by the way) and then decided that maybe they should ask the belt manufacturer to search their warehouse (as they no longer make these belts) and found me 40 spare. Ching ching, now thats service in a big way. Now you can see whyI like Kyosho so much, they are quality.

Greetings!
I enjoy reading posts here and I find it amazing that many still patronized the beltdrive Lazer ZX series. I am proud to say that I am an owner of a Lazer ZX-R since 1991.
I have tried many 4WD along the years but nothing compares with my lazer.
I do have a dilema though... Despite of the advices I am recieveing from my fellow racers to put my lazer in the shelves, I would still like to go racing with it. I would like to "bullet-proof" it - put whatever available aluminum parts, put stronger shock towers, better belts, spares, etc. My location is IL, US. Please help me find the right parts.
Thanks,
Elmer

Do they fit ZX-R?
YR4Dude, do you have the...is it Mk.1 that has no extra motor plate or is it Mk.2. I have a motor plate that is missing the adapter. Gold shocks? *drool* Is it Small, Medium or Large?
Used OT-93 is fine, too. I am currently making a prototype that is going to be just enough surface to cover the front suspension holder and definitely stronger than OT-93 for my ZX-R runner.

The ZX5 item will not fit. I have designed a carbon fibre pivot blocks for the ZXR, www.fibre-lyte.co.uk hopefully will still have them on file, but be warned two of them do not come drilled for the chassis holes. You will have to do that yourself.
Also I thought OT93 was the bumper. If you want an indestructable shock tower buy the fibre lyte half circular one, as I never broke on and that was seriously strong considering what I did to my car on a bad day.
Also belts will not fit so dont bother buying the ZXS items, its much shorter than the ZX/R buggy

Elmer, email them with this piccy and ask for all four items. They have this on file under my name (James). I designed them (pivot block wishbone holders) and they are stronger than the plastic items, however I would recomend getting them drilled by someone who knows what they are doing so the holes are straight. The one in front of the motor is a doddle to fit, as all you need do is blot all the way through and use a nut and washer to lock it tight to the chassis.
Hope this helps.

Ok the reason why I designed the carbon fibre items (and they require a bit of patient work to get fitted properly) is due to not being able to find any and believe me my contacts list is large. Other than that get a machinist to duplicate the plastic ones in alloy.

I cannot find the fiber pivot blocks nor the half circular bumper on the site. I guess the removed it already but I'm not worried, my fellow local race I bespoke is a machinist by trade so I will just patiently waiting for his time to work on the bumper if YR4dude could not locate the parts. I am in no hurry to build my ZX-R.

Mmm i ran a 5700 Mamba Max with a 20 tooth pinion with an 87 spur. May be helpful. I did run a 4.5 on a 19 but was a bit overgeared. I decided that brushed worked better. I am using a 12 single brushed with a 19 / 20 tooth.
How long you had the ZXS for?? Do you have any spare rear belts??
Oh yes, if you havent run it for a while I would be careful as the rear shock mount holder breaks (its designed weak) very easily and you wont find spares easily.
Hi Welshy,
I am still using ZX-R's default 100 tooth spur gear and I plan to buy a 5700 Mamba Max... do you think the 5700 motor is the best for racing? What pinions (range) you think will work best for a fast and technical track?
From Castle Creations' communications, they say that this motor is equivalent to a 10 turns motor. During my racing years, I was using a 12turn brushed motor and 16 - 19 tooth pinions. Was your 5700, 87 spur, 20 pinion over-geared? My RC knowledge is the same as my car - obsolete. Please help.

Yes the 5700 is well good in the ZXR. Ive now gone to the Tekin RS Pro and the esc handles sensored and sensorless. Now this is a superb esc, but Castle creations offer a superb customer service (even tho Tekin do as well)
The ratio may be one or two teeth higher than you expect. I like a lot of top end and is rather rapid with the ratio I put up. still try it and see. For a 10 double I used a 23 pinion and the top end was rapid, but a 19 would be a good start for you.
The Mamba does feel a bit rough and does stutter if over geared but still a great esc. However if you want a smooth esc and motor the the Tekin is the way to go and the difference between brushed and brushless is hardly noticeable.
Update us when you have decided what to do and what ratio.

The Tekin RS Pro is over my budget but I can consider Tekin RS, do you think the the RS series will be just as good? From the site, I noticed that they are configurable like the Mamba/Sidewinder and Xcelerion. Now that you raised this up, I am very interested with Tekin.

Well I would say yes but would really hope you consider saving a little longer as this thing has much more on offer.
The RS Pro both offers sensored and sensorless which is perfect if you decide one day to use LRP motors and then the next day Orion etc etc. The other doesnt offer that, and I am now in a position to say the sensorless is not as smooth or controllable as the sensored, and the beneift is if the sensor wire comes out or gets wet the motor carries on working in sensorless form, and that is somthing I never thought would be the case but there it is a much better buy than the RS.
The RS Pro sensor and sensorless is the esc to go for at the mo and is a good buy. Tekin are pretty much back where they left off, and getting better day by day.

Wow guys. I can't believe that this thread is in the top three when I pulled it up.
Anyways, as I had mentioned before, I'm letting go of some stuff. I've started so far with my Lazer ZXR. Believe it or not I still have parts enough to build another one. So theres no need for the duplication because I already have TOO MANY CARS!!
I'm attaching pictures. You can guys can decide what you want to offer for it. Lowballs will be taked but will not be responded.:p I won't be taking any trades because I have too much stuff already. Payment through Paypal only.
I'm offering it hear instead of the for sale forum because I know you are the only guys who will appreciate this plus I want it to go to a good home.
Thanks

How do all. Ive never been one for posting much on forums, but Welshy said i should in this case :p
Been driving the Lazer family since it first appeared, gone through just about every possible variation of chassis & layout possible over the years, including Welshys versions. Still got everything ive ever brought for them, see pictures below....
Anyways, a few years back i saw some parts were getting harder to find i.e. front gearbox parts & spur gears, so I decided to make my own and cast them out. Not hard, as i run a small product/prototyping company. I ended up just using them for myself, but as some parts now seem virtually impossible to buy new now so Welshy conviced me to offer them to the Lazer die-hards like ourselves.
Weshly is recievng a half set this week so he will be able to comment himself on the parts quality, and im making new Lazer Spur Gears, Front gearboxes ( front and rear parts ) ZXS steering assemblys, Bumpers ( standard & modified ), ball-raced Caster blocks in 5 & 7.5 degrees, Diff halves and layshaft gears.
As its been a few years since i started making my own parts resins have moved on a bit so im experimenting with different versions atm. The ones Welshy will recieve are the original resin versions - they lasted well with me when used them ( and i crash... a lot ! ) so i doubt they would be a problem now but ill try new resins to see if i can get them even more durable.
Oh i can do them different colours as well without sacrificing durability, so yellow, blues, reds etc etc can be mixed. Dark grey will be the standard norm, white for prototype parts only. Once myself and Welshy are satisfied with the production items i will cast colours up so you can see what you want, if you want them at all.... :o
Shown below are my versions of the front bulkhead assembly, ZXS steering arms and ZXR layshaft gears.
So basically, is anyone interested in new parts ??

Well guys, now is your chance to get spares and to finally be able to compete without having to worry about breaking things. dynastorm is the real deal and he will also be making a mold of my prototype LA1, where there are more diff ball spaces and of course the diff balls required will be smaller. the benefits of this are that the diff is a lot more smoother, without that gritty feel that you always get with these ball diffs.
Once we have worked out the gremlins (if there are any) then these items will be available for you to buy, and the prices wont be too high either. Its an opportunity that you really cannot turn down and now the chance is there for you to buy in bulk so you wont be in a sticky position in the future (we have all been there, including me) if I were you (and I am going to) I would buy several of everything so at least you will have plenty when you need them.
Updates will be coming soon.
Also who knows how to get belts made for the ZX/ZXR. Worth posting this information as well on here so we can get hold of everything.

Great work guys!
Dynastorm, is possible to make LA-30 parts? the suspension arm holders, they are untrovable i have only two parts but they are very fragile.
Did you made the cooled motor holders in pics? Or they are commercial op-up parts?
Thank a lot for your time
dynastorm
12-03-2008, 08:08 AM
Hello Filosganga, yes i can make the LA-30 arm holders no problem, i didnt list them because they still come up on Ebay quite often and most people seem to have metal arm holders fitted. I will make a mould of them and they will also be available for you and others who want them - sound fair ?
All but one of the motor heatsink plates were commercially available in the 90's, from people like RW Racing and MMS - but the one in the bottom picture on the right is one i made years ago with fluting on both sides for thoretical maximum cooling. Worked fine, but no difference really from the shop-brought items.
I could make all the metal parts again, but im trying to concentrate on the resin parts atm. But if enough people want Lazer metal suspension arm holders, fluted motor plates etc etc i could make a few sets.
I also made parts for a few other cars as well like Egress', Avantes, Top Forces, Rough Riders, Dynastorm etc etc. I must dig out the moulds again sometime...
But atm im concentrating on the Lazers to help people keep them running :)
Anyone else interested in parts ?

Yes,
I think there's a market for the Top force as well. The rear gearbox is an issue with flex and the hinge mount is susceptable to cracking so a hinge support could be good.
I know GPM make some good parts for the TF but the gearboxes remains an issue with high powered motors.

Thanks for the interest, ill sort the Lazer resin parts out first then see what else is needed by peeps.
Btw, the old Top Force gearbox problem was mostly sorted by a small ally reinforcement plate. Ill dig mine out sometime and copy it again one day. Nice and simple and was fine with 10 doubles. I did a lot of parts on the Top Force too.. including a Works Replica ;)
Once ive got the Lazer parts out, then ill move onto other parts if there is a genuine need for them.

Hi dynastorm,
I'm interested in LA-30 because it is very hard to find on ebay (I found only one in one year). I prefer resin for that part because i think alloy can break the arms.
I'm also interesting in cooling motor mount and alloy central support (blue in pic 4).
If there are other people interested in alloy parts ok, otherwise I'll take only resin LA-30 and front gearbox.
Thank you

Hi!
I am interested in parts but I feel that I lack in terminology in order to specify what I want, so I will give some article nr's and perhaps you can correct my "guesses" as to what the article names are.
Anyway, I have a Lazer Alpha that ran ever so nice up until last summer when I managed to melt the "belt wheels" (LA11) I guess due to the belts being wore down.
So, my first question is if LA11 is the correct item and what do you call those small wheels?
Apart from this item that I have to get in order to drive my Lazer again there are several parts that I would be glad to order if possible, like the LA30 and a front bumper.
Does someone know if it is possible to find a new body to my Alpha? Mine is cracked and ugly painted...
Thanks for any help.
Edit:
Spoke to a dealer here in Sweden today that confused me even more...
My car has label 3036, and named lazer alpha : http://www.retromodelisme.com/scan_pages/5765/alpha-lazer-kyosho-page-2.html
I have lost the documentation on spare parts and article nrs to the car so I have just assumed that the parts I am looking for is in the LA-xx article series. But today this dealer told me that the article series for my alpha is LZ-xx and that the "belt wheels" that I am looking for is known as LZ-09.
Can someone share some light on this, please? Cause it is hard enough to find parts when you know what to look for and now I seem to have been looking for the wrong parts...

Hi guys,
I just thought of showing you this before I paint it. It's a proline vortex body for the b44... it is not a direct fit so you'll need to put in extra work. I hope this will help people who are having difficulty finding a lazer shell.
This is not my main car... I just saw it cheap from ebay and I thought of starting a project. I'll show you another picture when I painted it.

Hi Welshy,
Thanks for the advices you are giving. For esc, I will go with your recommendation... I'll get a tekin rs but with either 6.5 or 7.5 BL motor since my home track is technical.
I am also planning to re-design the suspension geometry (for slippery tracks) by fabricating shocktowers and using different shocks. If you have an idea for this, I know many will be happy to know.
Also, I am curious with the CAT SX but I have not seen one around my area. How do you think this car will fair?
Thanks,

Hi,
a dealer sold me LA114 and LA115 telling me they would fit but as far as I can see the rear belt is too short since I guess that I shouldn´t have to force them on (don´t think it is even possible).
I have previously been told that the article series for the Alpha is LZ-xx but there are no belts in that series. So then I thought that the LA12 and LA13 would fit but since the dealer didn't have those I ended up with the items described above.
So, my questions are;
1. Should LA114, LA115 fit?
2. Would LA12 , LA13 fit?
3. If no to the first two, what belts am I looking for (article numbers)?

LA114 and LA115. SAVE THESE FOR ME PLEASE!!!!!
Where do you live (PM me) and dont throw them away. They only fit on one car and thats the one I run, a Lazer ZX-S.
LA13 and LA12 I think (if memory serves me correctly) are the correct ones for the ZX/ZXR/ZXRR. Im unsure for the Alpha.
Have a look on www.retromodelisme.com/liste_manuel.html for the manual of the car you want and will find the correct part numbers.

If its a white diff then I would seriously recommend putting it on your ZXR, as its much smoother and feels as smooth as an associated diff. Doesnt have a gritty feeling. I have the prototype ones on my ZXS and they uses smaller diff balls as well as a few more and is really smooth.

Hi there,
This is my first post on the forum, as I've just pulled out my old Lazer ZX-R MKII out the loft. I had a quick look around on the internet and fell across this forum and some videos on youtube just show how much things have progressed over the years.
Basically I'm looking at getting the car back on the road, other than being covered in dust, I've managed to lose the fast charger in moving house a few times over the years and the batteries seem to be foaming a bit, so they're dead.
I bought a new motor a few years ago to put in it, but then realised that batteries are still quite a bit, so it went back in the loft again.
I'd really like to get it going, I know there's a club in the area I live in (Plymouth UK), but I think it'd be more for old times sake to get it going.
The motor is a 13T double, which I think is ok, but I've seen that now brushless motors have become a lot more popular, I know you need a new speed controller and everything, but it would interest me to get one of these to put in with a Lipo motor. Is this possible?
Any suggestions would be great! I don't know where to look for bits, or what batteries or charger or motor I require.
I thought I'd attach a couple of pics too!
Thank you.

Yeah it was a nice looking car you got there rob lots of carbon.
Its Lipo batteries not motor motors are brushless and you need an brushless speedo to go with.
I still us brushed motors so if you have a speedo stick to it if it just for fun.
Do you have an undercowl to that body ??? Bodys are hard to find so you better treat it good.
A good clean up first would make every thing easier.
Nice looking carbon stuff.

Great car, one of the best carpet buggies there is. Use a 6.5 motor and either a Novak GTB esc or Tekin RS Pro. You can use Lipo saddle packs and it should still be within the weight limit.
All the places for shells and chassis and shock towers etc are on www.fibre-lyte.co.uk and if you want to upgrade to the ZXS shell then youll need the slimmer chassis. Read through the thread from roughly page 19 onwards and all the info is there.

All I can say looking your photos is .... wow  !!!
A real shame that kyosho has discontinued the evolution of the belt Lazer versions.
The zx-5 is a nice car, but with the shaft layout all cars look like the same.
Your car is definetively different and looking at photo seems that at least another guy is intrested in discover what is hide under the body :D !

Hello guys!
I was out raising hell with my ZXR the other day and suddenly it just slowed down drasticly.. It had broken off the rear belt so now i only have FWD which SUCKS ;D
I have a friend who said he might be able to come up with new ones if he had the correct meisurements of the belt.
So now i wonder what the length, width and all other vital stuff about the LA-12 belt is :) If anyone has the same info about the front LA-13 belt i would like to know that too :)
Cheers

I have these MPP arms and here are my comments:
- They are strong and I was not able to break one
- Lighter than the stock lazer arms
- Slightly longer than the stock arms - probably 1mm longer
- Doesn't have holes for swaybar screws
Hope that helps.

Nice, but the kevlar reinforced wishbones were the best for me, never broke one in ten years even when I went head on with a YZ10, and that Yokomo broke a wishbone and mine didnt. Still nice though.

Oh the Lazer's pretty strong alright :) Only things that did originally break regulary were front gearbox's, the plastic wishbone holders and shock towers. All of those are now easy to replace with aftermarket versions.
Like Welshy, i cannot remember breaking anything else. Certainly not a standard wishbone. Everything else that wears are standard consumerables - slipper pads, diff balls & plates, spurs, idler gears etc etc.
If your going to seriously race it, i would have a chat with Welshy if you havent already. He's pretty much seen it and done it all with the Lazer.
Good luck :)

You recommended that I use associated shocks.... I just odered them but wondering what kind of spring and oil to use. I am still using the standard lazer zx-r shocks and springs with 30 front and 20 rear for oil.
I'll send you an email for the details.

Elmer,
I am unsure what surface your racing on.
Start with this set up.
Front
Size one pistons
Oil 35 (may need to go up to 45)
Springs Blue (silver for more steering) associated
Castor block 7 degree or 7.5 wider hole option
wishbones level or just under
No spacings in shocks
Rear
Size one pistons
Oil 30
Springs Silver associated
Roll bar if prefered
Wishbone level or just under
No spacings in shocks
These shocks are really user friendly, and easy to work with to find the setting desired for your car. Once the back is dialed the front wont take long to set.

I think your crazy as you do realise that as I am testing a few new molded items dont you think that I will be testing a diff part as well. Hold your thoughts on that as not only will I be testing one very very soon but its a mold of my prototype diff gear, where there are smaller balls and more of them and it makes the diff so smooth that you would be quite surprised how much better it is than the ZX / ZXR ones.
Also i am testing the layshaft pulley as well so we are halfway there. I also have the gearbox front half for the ZX / ZXR and its stunning, so if anyone is interested in getting these items they are going to be tested this month and then the mold will be modified and game on for every one, as parts will be available for the serious racer / competitor / collector again.

Guys,
Im meeting the mold maker tomorrow when I do a race event in Wales. He does the front and have to say the quality is second to none, its better than the original as he has molded the design around what I used. I will ask about the rear gearbox. I am also testing the blue type steering I use that he has also molded for me as well as the layshaft gears. HE should have a diff gear in white for me and yes it will most probably stay that colour mainly to make sure that when you see it you will know that different balls are required due to them being smaller. Updates will be done soon.
Ema your buggy looks great, I would advise stromngly on the front shock tower that I used to use and that has a half circular handle type shock tower as it is stronger than any other. It protects the front end gearbox big time. Also use a 7 degree hub, doesnt have to be a team line blue one, a standard kyosho one will be fine but if you race on clay or dust tracks it may be too much steering for you so try the standard 5 degree hub. Your car looks really good, look after it and good racing.

Lovely car that Ema, very sweet with the Wasp Racing Carbon Chassis :)
Myself and Welshy met up today at the meeting. The parts i made for him seemed to work well, although i had to leave before the meeting finished so did'nt catch all his races. There was one very badly designed jump that the ZXS just didnt like much, and unfortunately James had a few tumbles there. But the good news is nothing i made broke, even after a few nasty tumbles !
Im sure James will update when he gets back about what he thought of them...
We've decided to mould virtually ALL the plastic Lazer parts now, but as im sure you will appreciate it will take a while to make them all. So once James is happy with them i will let you know what will initially be available and for how much. First ones will include - layshaft gears, front strengthened gearbox complete, ZXS steering arms, wishbone holders. Spur gear, diff gears, and 5 & 7.5 degree ball-raced Teamline front uprights will next. Anything else will be last :P
Standard colours of parts will be Dark Grey, colours can be specified for extra - for example Welshy is going to have a set in Blue to match his Alloys parts on the ZXS. I was going to keep White for prototype parts so they dont get confused with production parts, but we'll see.
I might even make a new Lazer ZXR body buck for vac-forming new bodies as i do have a brand-new kyosho ZXR body and undertray to copy.... ;)

Yes, I know my car is missing the teamline uprights .... maybe until the new parts from Dynastorm are available someone can sell me them.
Seems to remember that you have more than a couple in one of yours previous picture and also Dynastorm on page 52 show a real collection of blue teamline uprights  .

My original plan was to buy "yours" FRONT & REAR MOUNT 2 (from here http://www.fibre-lyte.co.uk/fl/cars/kyosho/jilazer.html) but if you think that is better another front tower I will change my mind for sure.
Are you talking especially of this one FRONT MOUNT (UNIVERSAL)(from here http://www.fibre-lyte.co.uk/fl/cars/kyosho/kylaz2.html) ?
@Dynastorm
The wasp racing chassis is really ace !!
Unfortunately is for the Zx-r MK2, so the motor plate and the stabilizer plate have been cutted and driller in order to fit.
However I will try to buy the correct parts (LA62) as soon as possible.
Looking forward for your "new" Lazer parts
Also the chance of getting a new Zx-r body will be definitely AWESOME :D:D
In the meantime if you want to sell me one or two teamline uprights let me know ....

Well th esteering arms are good enough at the moment, the gerabox on the front for the ZX/ZXR is perfect, just a hole that needs to be sorted out and game on. Diff gears and spur gears and teamline are still works in progress so wont be a while so be patient.
Just think when we are happy with the finished product you will be able to buy as many as you want and as we are both perfectionists it will be good when we have done all proper testings.
Layshaft gear is still being tested so as soon as I am happy with that i will update.
Diff gears will be coming my way soon and a proper test will also happen
Yes my car didnt handle the jump well but then again no ones did. I ended up cutting the track to go around the jump. Still I had a rubbish day and made 6th in the A, only to find the car was not working to my standards. It turned out to be the servo that was faulty and decided to die on me in the 4the round so makes sense as to why none of my setting changes made any difference. Still I used a 2wd in the final, and had a blast but yes the molds took a punishing time and I am happy with what he has managed to achieve. Still lets not get ahead of ourselves as we are still a works in progress, just bear with us as soon spares will once again be available.

Mount 1 on the first link http://www.fibre-lyte.co.uk/fl/cars/kyosho/jilazer.html, half circular front mount would be a better option that is if your going to compete. Its the strongest of all of the mounts out there. The other one is strong but not as strong as mount 1. however its still strong and withstood a lot of punishment on my tests and event I did. Its down to your preference, I liked the circular one as it was also a handle to hold the car between races but the newer one does suit the ZXS shell.

Thanks Welshy for the great support.
I already ordered a Zx-s body from kamtec (still waiting the delivery), so probably I will go with the Mount 2.

[QUOTE]What's the ETA or should I say Expected Time of Purchase for these ? >> layshaft gears, front strengthened gearbox complete, ZXS steering arms, wishbone holders. Spur gear, diff gears, and 5 & 7.5 degree ball-raced Teamline front uprights... /QUOTE]
2 weeks and all the above will be ready to go for sale, bar the spur & diff gears which will need a bit more testing. They seem easily strong enough, but we need to runs packs through them to see how they wear compared to the originals.

I would guess the spur would be 48dp. Most users of the ZX/ZXR use this so would be simpler doing just one mold.
I am looking forward to testing more items. Matt is a top bloke and has skills that are highly impressive, but like all of us he has his priorities first such as his work. He is doing this in his spare time as like all of us he has a passion for these cars.
All I can say is its coming along slowly but its coming along and sooner rather than later these bits will be available. :D

I was able to find it in a shop in Germany ;) !!
I think that there are a lot of kyosho Lazer spares out there, the only problems is that the shops doesn't list them online because they think that no one is interested.
Here in Italy I was able to find in a shop near my house an LA-35 and an LA-17 ...

Hi All,
Very glad I found this forum as was contemplating getting back into RC racing and had started to dust off my ZX-R.
Firstly dynastorm, I would certainly be a customer for your planned spares, put me on your list if you have one.
secondly Welshy40, You seem to be the oracle relating to everything Lazer. I need a new body and under tray. I have read that kamtec does something that will fit, however which body should I go with if I stick to a standard setup (for the time being).
I have a Tekin 411g which I think I'll keep for the moment, any recommendations on cells that'll work well with that? The motor I have installed is a Reedy 14 quad.
I apologise if this has been covered earlier,
Cheers,
Rod.

Hehehe well I used a Reedy MR M and that had 8 hours worth of work done on it to balance and refined to sip power but give major power and boy did people find it hard to go against me on high power tracks. Those were the days alright!!!
roderick2nd
Try a rough ratio on your buggy with a 22 as a starting point. I used a 23 on my MR M and on a 10 double but doubt youd be able to hit that ratio.
I would recmmend going brushless if you could as this does away with motor works and is so much easier at trackside so you can do works on shocks and tires and other issues, and boy have I had a few recently and happy that I didnt have to mess with skimming or preparing the motors. The Losi is the best combo deal on the market in my opinion at the moment but I do have a Tekin RS Pro and is fantastic and small.
You will need to buy a good charger and I do like the LRP Pulsar 3 (I have one) as it charges NIMH and LIPO cells and also has a discharger even though you dont discharge LIPOS. Its down to preference but would recommend buying some cheap new NIMH possibly 2400 or 3300 or whatever it is but wouldnt go as far as the 4000 range as you dont need it for five minutes run time. But then again LIPO it the way everyone is going but you will have to buy a charger bag, as well as figure out how to fit them on your chassis, unless these come with the lumps (tekin may do in saddle form), then you also need a balancer as well to connect to the cells and charger to keep the cells perfect, but these babies dont loose power, so you could go on holiday for several months and come back and bung in your car and do a full race with no problems at all without repeaking.
Anyway PM me with any stuff as I am happy to help out any fellow Lazer racer with anything. Bodyshell well I would go and have a look at the ZXS shell, pics are on the site here from page 20 onwards so have a look through or go and look at the kamtec site. Its a tight fit on the standard ZXR chassis but if your prepared to file the edges of it a bit the chassis will fit or go and get the chassis i redesigned then better still. You will need to move the servo in on your chassis a bit to avoid the shell hitting it, in your current chassis.
I do know you can make pretty much any 4wd shell fit but wont be as good a looker. Still update us all and will talk soon.

Cheers Isobarik / Welshy40,
I had a proper look at the car last night and had a few nice surprises! Seems that all those years back I was prepared for front end damage as I found a spare front bulkhead! The motor I am currently running is a Reedy Mr D untouched from when I installed it, never got as far as re-skimming etc etc in my racing days (probably why I never made it to the A's :) ) as was a poor 14 year old. Still running a standard steering servo! I also managed to dig out the radio and other bits and after all these years it all still works!
I hear you on the lipo stuff, I run a mini titan Helicopter on lipo and brushless so I can see the advantages. However I'll start slowly and see what the competition will be like before any serious money gets spent.
Can anyone remind me on what type of mesh for the pinion I need to ask for as I recall different manufactures used different mesh sizes. Also I need some new tyres for grass and gravel what sizes do I need. Cheers for the heads up on the battery that'll save me a few bob avoiding the 4000mah types. Any recommendations for on-line model shops as am in Cornwall and the nearest one is in Devon.
Sorry about all these questions but does anyone know if I can get hold of some alloy parts ... namely LA-30 fronts and rear.
I'll have to take some pictures before any real resurrection takes place for you lot to enjoy ... better than porn anyhow ;)
Cheers,
Rod.

Hyper clutch : any one got some pics or better the manual for fitting the hyper clutch ???
Waht are the part number for the hyper clutch??
And isit still avaliable??
Slipper discs are the smaller slipper pads avaliable ???
Are the bigger slipper pads avaliable ???
Or are there pads out there from another company that fits on the mkII ???
Since the zxr and the mkII dont use same discs i was woundering.
you cant just bolt on an hyper cluch on an zxr slipper since the diameter of the slipper is smaller then the slipper of the mkII and the dont use the same slipper pads zxr uses 2 pads and mkII uses 1 pad. So what parts does come in the hyper clutch bag ????

Hyper clutch : any one got some pics or better the manual for fitting the hyper clutch ???
It's the same clutch of the Zx-s buggy, so you can look at the Zx-s manual here ;) :
http://www.kyosho.com/jpn/support/instructionmanual/buggy/pdf/30075_lazerzx_evo_m.pdf
Waht are the part number for the hyper clutch??
And isit still avaliable??
The part number is LAW12.
You can find it here, but it costs really a lot :( :

I'm not sure that you can mix the pads of different clutch.
Looking at the Zx-s manual I think that the parts into the LAW12 kit are the one numbered:
- 96
- 97
- E3
- 137
- 138
- 139
- 140
- 141
- 142
- 145
But I'm not sure about this, probably we need the Welshy knowledge here :o ..
In the near future I will try to mount a B4 spur gear with its slipper pads on the standard Zx-r clutch.
The internal diameter of the B4 pad is 19,05 mm.
You have also to enlarge the diameter of the spur gear from 4.8mm to 8mm in order to make the 4x8mm bushing fit.
I will let you know about my experiment ...

48dp spurs, kimbrough are what I used but as you may find it hard to find a 98 I would try Schumacher as they may do one. Also a hyperclutch if one is still available would be the best option if it isnt on your buggy, it has two screw holes to attach the spur to it. Easier to work with. However we may have one made sometime in the future so hold that thought.
No idea on shops there, best to look up Apex models and DMS racing and MK Racing as they are the best around. As I said PM me with any questions as I am more than happy to help. All carbon fibre bits can be got from fibre-lyte.co.uk and currently i am testing remolds of Lazer bits, so they should be available in the near distant future through my friend Matt, when we are happy with the finished product. Alloy parts, best to get an alloy specialist to make them for you from the plastic design or get the fibre lyte bits I designed, but you will need to drill two holes yourself as they wont due to them being through the grain, but bigger hole and a copper tubing glued in properly should resolve all issues and looks great.
Cheers Isobarik / Welshy40,

Slipper pads are different but any RB type R 2wd pads will work, just cut around the slipper plates the excess pads. Its simple as thats what I am using on my prototype Hyperclutch. Still the original pads work as well just cut around. Also the RB type R slipper pad if still available is the one you can easily use as well as the front screw section plate for the spur gear, I have a lightened one thats perfect for this Hyper clutch slipper. The hyperclutch comes with a layshaft, E clips, front slipper plate, back slipper plate big unit, allen key screws, spring, thrust race and I believe a bearing as well. If I can find the manual I will post it for you.

At the rate of components being made we should all be able to build new Lazers from scratch! Do you think Kyosho would licences it out ;-)
What motors were you guys running before you switched to brushless? And what was your spur / pinion if you can remember? I am currently on 100 / 22 and the new 3300mah batteries are lasting about 9 min so I could look at getting a bit more speed out of the girl.
And whilst we are on the belts, has anyone bought and tried the belts from beltcorp?

Nope never tried them its like this.
Since i still have original spare belts i havent had the need to buy from beltcorp other wise i would have done it.
I intend to build 1 more lazer with new belts and some aftermarket diffs and chassi and when i have done that i will order new belts from beltcorp.
Otherwise if you want to go an easyer way just search ebay.de for "kyosho lazer" and you will find an guy that sells beltsets for kyosho lazer.
I bet they also work but beltcorp are cheaper you have to buy more from beltcorp but per set they will be cheaper.

Would you be interested in selling some wishbones to me? If so PM me with the cost and paypal address so I can pay you. Dont forget postage ontop to the UK.
Also the Ujs are slightly different from the ZXR ones, they look like MIP ujs but the pins are permanent and cant be removed, they look like MIP but thats it, so what I have done is buy one of the 8 differnt sets of UJs MIP style for the ZX-5 as they do have a size for practically all models. I am using one longer on the front compared to the other side due to ihe other side binding.
The pics are on the Petit website and I think I put the link on the last ten pages somewhere. If you cant find it let me know and I will have a hunt. I have had a major blow on my laptop as it deleted everything so I am a bit lost and have to slowly rebuild my contact list and sites.

Ok here are the UJs that are available for the ZX-5
K.LA231 UNIVERSAL DRIVE SHAFT 68MM. (2)
K.LA232 UNIVERSAL DRIVE SHAFT 65MM. (2) ZX5
K.LA245 UNIVERSAL DRIVE SHAFT 62.5MM. (2) FOR LAW34
K.LA257 UNIVERSAL SWING SHAFT ZX5 SP (2) 73MM (LAW35)
K.LA258 UNIVERSAL SWING SHAFT RR ZX5 SP(2) 60.5MM (LAW35)
K.LA302 UNIV DRIVE SHAFT 68MM ZX5 READYSET
K.LA303 UNIV DRIVE SHAFT 65.5MM ZX5 READYSET
I am unsure what I got, but the lengths here are from the ball end to the join in the uj, so measure yours and work it out. I believe that the extra long front may be 62.5mm and the rear may be 60.5 but I may be wrong. These are MIP copies and are fully rebuildable.

Nice, worth changing the rear shcok tower as it will bend big time, and break the mount its attached to as well so carbon fibre it asap. Looking good. The front shock tower has me puzzled a bit, what is it?
Thanks James. I left my spare parts and the lazer zx-r in my home country but I will certainly change the shock towers. I might even get some parts from Isobarik and from fibre-lite. For the front shock tower, I measured the ZX-R's front tower and was able to find a nice looking $5 carbon fiber tower from ebay that will fit - it is an upper portion of a rear shock tower made for Mugen MBX-6. My only doubt is - it is too thick and might not break on high impact hence will damage the pastic mount.

Welshy,
as Isobarik I'm intrested in the correct part number for the Zx-r CVDs ...
Can you please specify the color of the CVD axle in your car ?
This helps a little in identify the correct part number infact:
- LA231 68mm is black
- LA232 65mm is black
- LA245 62.5mm is grey (steel color)
- LA257 73mm is grey (steel color)
- LA258 60.5mm is black
- LA302 brittle plastic rtr one (avoid to use this one)
- LA303 brittle plastic rtr one (avoid to use this one)
So assuming that the CVDs are the same on the Zx-r and the Zx-s and looking at the photos of your car here http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.petitrc.com/gallery/files/3-DSC_5014.JPG&imgrefurl=http://www.petitrc.com/_forumphp/showthread.php%3Ft%3D41763&usg=__IHYc1X_JHbnTH55bmdCp6jacPH4=&h=681&w=1024&sz=317&hl=en&start=35&um=1&tbnid=q-e8V9vUfA6xaM:&tbnh=100&tbnw=150&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dlazer%2Bzx-s%26start%3D20%26ndsp%3D20%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa %3DN we can exclude the two steel coloured (LA245 - LA257).
Are you agree with me ;) ?
If so we have to discard only one between the following items:
- LA231 68mm
- LA232 65mm
- LA258 60.5mm
Thanks as always for your great support ;) .

Pay attention. The UJs you see in the pictures are all prototype with exception of one on the front whick is a ZX-5 and is fractionally longer than the other side. they look like MIP on the prototypes but are nothing like them and are not rebuildable.
If you measure the Ujs like they way I said earlier you should be able to come to the conclusion which ones are suitable. Black are the ones you want and not silver. If I get a chance this weekend I will measure the UJs and tell you all what ones to buy if you need them.
Great information Ema. Thanks.

I have these MPP arms and here are my comments:
- They are strong and I was not able to break one
- Lighter than the stock lazer arms
- Slightly longer than the stock arms - probably 1mm longer
- Doesn't have holes for swaybar screws
Hope that helps.
Thanks,
Elmer
One thing you forgot was that they flex unlike the Kyosho ones. The Kevlar helped stop this on the Kyosho ones, but these and I believe RPM made a set as well and were roughly the same and didnt do any harm in using them.:)

When i was at the lhs i found some mip cvd´s for the kyosho pro-x and i bought them and tried them on.
They will not fit in the rear but they do fit in the front they are aproximatly 1,5 mm longer then the 5063 and there is plenty of space by the looks of it.
then comes a nother question is it possible to get parts for them from MIP.
Since MIP are still in buisness i will try to contact them and see if it iss still possible to get 1 parts for them and see if you may just take an shorter bone and get an shorter cvd.
Anyway i shall mail them to see what i get.
mvh Isobarik
Not be able to contact them yet but since the pro-x version fits lazer front (5063) an there where an inferno 10 version but the pro-x uses new style pin instead of press on hex. They did have an kit for the inferno 10 and you all know that the inferno 10 used 5061.
But if itis possible to get the inferno 10 bone and then you combine it with the pro-x axle then you will get an mip cvd 5061 with pin hex.
Will try to contact them and see if we could obtaine the parts.

Basically what you have said is what I have done, I use a standard blue hex with and allen key screw to attach to the MIP shaft (well its kyosho MIP copies). Pics will be below shortly. MIP still do spares but are hard to get so would be much easier to use the Kyosho ones. Still the MIP dont break very often and I have never worn one out yet so good going.

OK hope this helps
The two first ones are the prototype Ujs, for my ZX-S. They are the same as the long ZXR front Uj and the standard ZXR rear Uj. The other one is a Kyosho one and is rebuildable and is fractionally longer. You can make out the lengths, but the packages are listed on them measured from the end of the dogbone to the pin on the join section, so for example if it says 65mm it will be the length of the dogbone section and wil nit include the hub section in the measurement. Hope this helps.
Also I have done testing on the LA11 item and unfortunately at the moment its still in need of some more development. Will update when we are happy with that one.

Then the shorter w5061 should be 65 and the long w5063 should be 68 think that would do it as a mather of fact when i measured the mip part it was 69/70 so that should be right....

you may find the rear hubs a bit to low on the wishbones, I had the three holes version of that and used the lower hole and that raised the bearing section up a bit more. TYhe ZX-5 is basically using a lot from my ZX-S but the hubs are one hole too short for your car. Try it and see.
I wish I kept the UJ part nimbers, I will try myself to figure it out and let you know as I will find some info sooner rather than later.
Also worth mentioning, I redrilled the front hub so I could put an associated metal ball at the very end inside so the tie rod was shorter and the king pin could be used and that took stress away from the steering as that screw king pin caused me a lot of problems. Have a good look at my ZXR-S version pictures that I posted ages back (from page 20 onwards somewhere) and you will see what I did to the front end.

If my memory recalls me correctly i did see an zx5 with la26´s on it.
And when i was at the LHS and found the mip shafts i looked at an zx5 sticked an ruler on to the arms and roughly measured them and they where about the same lenght +/- mm.

Adam,
No probs mate, I enjoy proving a point and doing it all myself and get pleasure from getting the results when no one expects the car to perform.
Isobarik,
Im thinking of trying the ZX-5 whishbones if they are identical in length, any one have a set that they can put ontop of so we can all see?
Im also adding the HPI Firestorm UJ hexs as it is 2.5mm wider on each side on the front making the ZX-S front end slightly wider, so will update on what I think next weekend. I have been doing stages of development and have managed to get a half decent setup and now I am working on taking grip away from the front and adding to the back as this buggy was designed for clay and I can understand why it made two worlds A's as the front end steering is incredible, and even I have problems with driving it on high grip surfaces. I am redesigning the kick up on the rear and am taking away the toe in so soon will have zero angle on the rear.

Prototypes are coming along sweet, still as with developing items problems do occure but thats where trial happens. The reason I prefer the originals is due to kevlar being in the plastic and this makes it stronger than pretty much every other wishbone on the market.

Ok wishbones hopefully sorted, now onto one thing that I have never had to replace since I built my first Lazer in 89.
The slipper pad for a hyper clutch has burnt out big time and now am on the prowl for some more spares, or even advice on where I can buy the material to make my own. I have tried the ZX5 pads and they are crap and dont work at all, as they are to weak.
Kyosho have stopped making this item UM123 and UMW118 so any one got loads or a few to sell or ideas on what material it is and where to buy a sheet from.

Yeah i have missing one bumber on one of my cars and was glad i found it.
Still regarding those arms they are getting harder and harder to find.
I have now an cad drawwing of the arms and will take it to work and see if i can have it made, hope so anyway.
I hope that in a distance future Kamtec will start making the Lazer zxr body
so i can paint one and head to the nordic battle in stockholm sweden.
I have 4 lazers in different condition but not a singel body.
mvh Isobarik
The Lazer Zx-r body is on the Keith to do list, but if you need a body for your Lazer now, you can use the Zx-s one.
The result will be like this one: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=73960&sid=10980.

Sorry for this guys, its not very often I get stumped but this time I am, and am either blind and not seeing the obvious or just stupid. :D
From what can I see the Kyosho Hyper Clutch looks like the Associated one on my B2 (and on the B3).
I'm not sure about the dimension and the thickness of the disk, however here's the code of the associated slipper pads (the B2 is smaller that the B3 one):
- ASC6585
- ASC9253
You can also try make you pad cutting the B4 ones:
- ASC9603
I'm also interested to know wich material is used to make slipper pads, because I'm planning to fit a B4 spur gear with two custom pads on the standard Zx-r clutch.
The slipper pads of the Schumacher Cat Sx are made of PTFE (teflon), and you can find it in sheet, but the dimension and the cost of one sheet are huge :( ..
However this is the ZX-RR supplement sheet that I finally found ;) ;) ;) .

305 is the light weight plate that the spur gear screws onto and the thrust race goes into
The only part numbers I am aware are UM123 and UMW118.
I did think of the fibre disk but no that wouldnt be good

Yes and are the part numbers for the hyper and slipper clutch
Um123 and umw118
The Um123 is available for sure at KyoshoAmerica:
Not 100% sure about the Umw118, but you can try ;)
I bought a couple of spares from Kyosho America and I have to say that the service is excellent (the only problem may be the shipping cost).

I'm quite lucky, because I'm able to place some orders occasionally when some of my colleague travel to the US for work ...
However this is a US based (ok, this thread is really international) forum, so we have only to find a kind guy that can help us ....

I'm just getting back into RC and in order stay within budget I'm forced to look at RTR options. I'd love to build my own kit but I just can't justify spending 4-500 bucks on piecing one together when I haven't even driven an RC car in close to 15 years, but I would like for the car to at least be able to be upgraded into a competitive car.
So my question is does the RTR Lazer ZX-5 make for a competitive buggy, or is it just a kids toy? I'm torn between the RTR RC10B4 and the Lazer. I know the RC10 is definitely competitive, but the ZX-5 is 4WD, which sounds like fun, it's just that I can't find any good reviews on the car.
Also, how is parts support for Kyosho in the States?
Thanks guys

I would highly recomend the rc10 b4 as its so simple to drive and maintain. Ive got one and its superb. Im no fan of the zx5 so the cheapest to maintain is the b4 as well as getting spares.

Last thursday i traded some NIP YOKOMO 2,2 rims and got a lot of parts incl an associated RC10 truck with stealth tranny. I picked the slipper pad of and tried it on my lazer and yes it did fit and was of same diameter in and out and thickness. So are they easy to find? i dont know but i will try and will let you know.

If you love the Lazer check out this auction ;) !!
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260425283267
Really too expensive for a Lazer racer, but if you are a collector who knows ....
I'm also triyng to restore a 100% original Zx-r and it's really, really, really more expensive than building a racer  !
Bye
Ema
P.S. From the images on the auction is not possible to see if the front bumper is mint .... for that price it must be like the Isobarik's ones !!!
P.S.@Isobarik: Really nice tablecloth :D, I want one !!
