Now I know there's a huge thread in the off-road section regarding XTR's but it's based on the standard out-of-the-box version, whether it's a single or 3 speed. What we race is slightly different in that you take it out of the box, take it apart, throw away the standard body, chassis, tyres and shocks, and convert it into what we christened the "EVO" tarmac racing version. So, as interest is growing steadily in our converted cars, I thought I'd introduce our format to the on-road section. You can check out our website at www.xtrracers.co.uk to get an idea of what we're all about, basically we're just a group of mates who get a huge buzz out of racing these cars and the developments have come about to improve both reliability and handling of the XTR on tarmac. The new chassis and extended wheelbase had two major advantages; 1. the handling is much improved and you can keep the front of the car on the ground under acceleration 2. it allows the fitment of 1/8th scale bodyshells which enclose the wheels and prevent almost all of the wishbone damage we were experiencing.
I'm sure the purists out there will be saying "it's a truck and meant for off-road use not tarmac" or "why not just buy a touring car"......Well, there's a certain satisfaction from the fact that we race cars that we built, and the racing is so close and competitive that we wouldn't change it at all............mind you, we're producing a home grown Nascar style version soon so watch this space...............

Hey XTR21 I am interested in purchasing another 3E, I would like to get one of your EVO chassis... possibly the Nas Pak... The problem is I live in the US How would I be able to get one... What is the differance between the two cars... the plain EVO and the NAS PAK? I am very interested in them both, when I do decide on my purchase will I be able to get those foam pads aswell or do I have to make them.... What bodies are available? I am sorry for all the questions... I just want to know everything I can.... Thanks

Sounds like you've got the "XTR bug" seriously.......
The EVO conversion is basically the 3mm aluminium chassis which extends the wheelbase, allows for twin fuel tank fitting, and sorts the rear toe-in problem to improve the handling. The Nazpak includes: EVO chassis, Foam Bumpers, and NazPak polycarbonate bodyshell (plus window masks and basic decal set).
We are more than happy to ship to the U.S. providing you are happy to pay the shipping costs (I've no idea what they are at present). Just shipped to Malaysia so there's no problem.
Prices are as follows;
EVO chassis only - £25.00 GBP + shipping
Full NazPak package - £65.00 GBP + shipping
You do need other hop-up parts to fully complete the conversion, but all are available from the Schumacher parts range. We are happy to supply these at cost if required. Suggest you check out www.xtrracers.co.uk for full details of the conversions.
Other bodyshells are available from Mantua Models in the UK and you can fit any 1/8th scale saloon bodyshell to the EVO chassis.
Any more questions - PM me and we'll sort you out - thanks for your interest.

Hey Pete do you guys use the 3 speed tranny when racing an EVO XTR? I'm seriously considering buying this chassis so it can handle better on road (it's the only kind of driving I do) Thanks,

Mike

The general concensus is that the 3 speed is superb in an EVO !!!
Probably about half of the XTRRacers now run them with most of the new members having converted from "3e's" anyway. The unconverted will argue that the cost of replacing a single speed spur gear is far less than having to pay for all 3 gears when you only need one or two. We do strip gears on the 3 speed pretty regularlt too - getting the meshing right is of paramount importance. However, the performance is stunning - getting out of the corners with a 3 speed gives a definate advantage over the single speed. Depending on the size of track, it's sometimes advisable to modify the shift point for the 3rd gear change - I just have a spare clutch which is drilled out to lighten the 3rd gear pawl so it hangs in 2nd longer. I expect the 3 speed to eventually take over with our group - mainly due to the single speed being unavailable to buy as a complete unit. To sum up - if you want the top performance, and don't mind replacing gears occasionally, go for the 3 speed - if you want reliability and cheaper spares, but are prepared to sacrifice a bit of performance, it's the single speed route for you.
Hope this helps.

Hey XTR21,

Hey thanks for the info.... how much would the full Nazpak be in USD? Also what would the additional hop ups I would have to purchase to complete the EVO kit. I am ordering the CVEC pipe already, It's not needed but does help. :D I dont mind paying for shipping as long as it is UPS... You said that the car will accecpt standard 1/8 scale bodies... does this include HPI, and OFNA?

I am VERY Interested in the EVO Nazpak! I intend on buying a new 3E just for this chassis... and I also intend on buying the Fusion w/ the speed gears to see which one is really faster, which I think will be the EVO!!! What are you using for tires? I want to find some slicks too.... Hey any information would be great... you could e-mail me the answers to dives@nycap.rr.com

Thanks,
VSnakeByteV

I have passed your details on to Paul from XTRRacers who has dealt with shipping to the states before. We'll put together a complete price list and package explaining what else is required for a full conversion. All 1/8th scale shells should fit - we'll confirm wheelbase and track width as well so you can have a hunt around. We are using the Schumacher "Venom" tyres which have proved to be very effective, albeit a bit high on the wear rate. I have mailed HPI, Schumacher and Proline to enquire about a slick tyre to fit the truck wheels, but they all say that they have no plans to produce one at present. Maybe you can find another supplier over there ? If you're using the CVEC pipe, I'd suggest adding a Fusion manifold so you can run the pipe lengthways along the chassis rather than across it. Keep your eye on www.xtrracers.co.uk as we have our first race meeting on April 13 and there are nearly 20 cars being readied with the new NazPak bodyshells, so we should have a load of pictures very soon. If you want to mail me direct you can get my home mail address from the homepage of the Xtrracers site.

Hey,

I'm in the UK with an electric Big 6 that I use in the BTCC.

It gets used a alot outside of BTCC meetings for demos etc, and I don't really want to ruin the Elise body without racing.

Does that Nazpack body fit the Big 6? :D

Hobson,

Big 6 is 1/6th scale - NAZPAK is 1/8th - So no, it won't fit. I also have a Big 6 (Nitro) and have tried to "make it fit" but it won't. Suggest getting another shell for messing around, and one for racing or show.
