what's the hottest temperature thats safe for my hyper21? btw, i live in the philippines, where its extremely humid.

im asking because today for some reason my dominator ran at 297 degrees, which is very weird since yesterday i was only running it at 240 and i never toughed the carb. it was extremely fast and responsive today and when i checked the temp guage it showed 297 degrees. is it bad to run an engine at this temp? actually when i tried to restart it, it didnt want to start and felt like there was very little compression since the pull starter was very light. but after i let it cool down i was able to get it running again.

Sounds like you ran it a little lean. A lot of Hyper guys run in the 250-270 range. Your engine is probably ok but you risk shortening the life of your engine if you run it lean too much.

thanks!!

what would be the reason for my temp to shoot up like that?

If the day before was a little warmer the high speed needle was set right if you were running 240 if the next day was cooler that would have made your needle setting to lean, you would have to richen it up a little to get the temp down.If it would have been the same temp outside you wouldn't have seen the difference.Remember the colder it is outside you need to richen up the high end and the hotter it is you lean out the high end.To keep your temps between 240&270

The weird thing is that the air temperature was even colder when it ran at 240 than when it did 297. My guess is that it was because I was in a higher altitude on the day when it was running at 240, actually i was on a mountain.

Yea that might do it,we don't have any mountains here so I never had to worry about that.

Just got started on this of messaging like a bulletin board. Read this guys problem and mine is just running for about a 1/4 of tank and then just shuts off. Hard to start after that. This happened to my Thunder Quake after i got it, then i bought a new motor for it thinking it was the problem. Not the problem. This is being done during the break-in process. Is this going to screw up my engine? I live at the 3000 ft level. Should i richen my mixture to cool it down? Please help if you can! Thanks, Peg Leg

Just got this new .21 for my TQ and it overheated on the first tank of break-in and was wondering if my engine is bad now or will it be good to go? If you know anything about overheated engines, please let me know. Thanks, Peg Leg

Turn the fly wheel by hand and if it still tightens up when the piston is up you still have compression. During break in you should be really rich for at least the first few tanks. I followed the manual on my Ofna Hyper 8-port and the head was almost cool to the touch for the first tank w/ lots of raw fuel spitting out the pipe. Some people feel its better to break in an ABC motor with higher heat 220-250 to better match the piston to the sleeve. Good luck, it would suck to trash a new engine. Also important to make sure that during break in (I do this after break in too)that the piston is at the bottom most point of the cylinder when you stop the engine and it starts to cool down. Doing this can give your engine a longer life.

Thanks for the info. How many turns on the needle is to much to richen it is too much? In the higher elevations would you want it at a higher rich setting? Haven't tried your first tip yet, just got home from work. Will let you know how it goes...... Thanks again, Peg Leg
