Check out over at the Traxxas Web site. It's a 2WD Single Speed version of the new Updated T-Maxx. Put anymore info of this truck under this thread.

i'm looking forward to this truck. i've always wanted a mt but none have really lived up to what i was looking for. s-maxx is gonna fly no doubt. it's already lighter. i'll get the 2-speed and it will go 40 w/o an engine swap. just wish it came in ARR.

:D Check it out, I think I'm gettin a SportMaxx for Christmas. So I'm gonna pop in a second gear and drop all of the weight i can, get as much hp as I can get and I'm gonna make it the fastest possible stunt/race truck. I wanna hit the biggest jumps I can find and race it on the weekends. I think the SportMaxx was a great idea for people who can't afford or just don't want all of the "convience" items included with the T-Maxx.

Milla, you might want to look at another truck if you want it for Christmas. We won't be seeing a Sport Maxx until early 2003 more than likely.

Im thinking the Sportmaxx is the replacement for the Nitro Pede what do you guys think?
draggerman11
11-03-2002, 11:53 PM
Traxxas has said it will not be replacing the Stampede.
I thought they said they will not be continuing the Nitro Pede. The SportMaxx would be the natural replacment, being a 2wd, SB, single speed MT

I thought they said they will not be continuing the Nitro Pede. The SportMaxx would be the natural replacment, being a 2wd, SB, single speed MTBut since it's basically a T-Maxx, the 'Pede is a completely different vehicle. The S-Maxx was built for the budget people that couldn't afford a T-Maxx.
So I'm gonna pop in a second gear and drop all of the weight i can, get as much hp as I can get and I'm gonna make it the fastest possible stunt/race truck. You might want to get a 1/8 Buggy. You'll be breaking a lot of parts on the S-Maxx ..
Yes the Sportmaxx is basically a Maxx but it has all the same basic features of the Pede. Do you think Traxxas wants to put Sportmaxx on the shelf next to the Nitro Pede? Not that the pede isn't tough and fun but if a person is wanting to buy a new Monster and they see those 2 with the same general features (like I listed above) and only $30-$50 difference.... Which one do you think they will buy? I think Traxxas is well aware that pede sales would fall considerably, if they haven't already.

what do u mean, it IS a t-maxx!!! it just doesnt have 2 speed, reverse, two wheel drive.. etc, its just a less costly version of the t-maxx, and no.. it doesnt have "cheaper" parts on it, just less parts to make it lighter, etc.. i bet if you put 2 speed you will go faster than the normal t-maxx 2.5
dont slow down
11-07-2002, 12:30 AM
hahaha, you guys are funny. you say its a cheap version of the tmaxx, well then how come its still over 300$!!! that is the biggest rip off i have EVER seen!! its the biggest hoax, sure it costs less than the 2.5 tmaxx, but that doesnt make it cheap. when i saw it i seriously thought about buying one, until i saw the price. the second i saw the price, i said forget it. its just another way for traxxas to make more money, imo, and if you upgrade it to be equal to a 2.5 tmaxx, it will end up costing you more than a brand new 2.5 tmaxx. sure, go ahead and upgrade it as you go. waste your money. i dont mean to tick anybody off, just sharing my opinion. dont get mad at me, :D lifes too short to be mad.

IMO... the sportmax is a waste of money.
$390 for a regular maxx..
$320 for a sportmaxx.
$70 difference and It will most likley cost around $50 just to put a 2 speed in it. If you want 2wd 2 speed maxx I'd just buy a regular maxx then pull the front diff, axles and seperate the front center shaft and there you go instant 2 speed sportmaxx. lol.. I had a 2 speed sportmaxx about two years ago after I broke a front diff I took all the front driveline parts out and ran it RWD and wheelies, doughnuts, and horrible traction got boring quick so I got the parts to fix it as soon as I could.

Isn't that the same as what the Nitro Pede does? I thought that was what made the Pede so much fun!
*edit* BTW, I just looked in the Hobby People add where they have all these trucks listed.
T-Maxx- $389.99
SportMaxx - $319.99
Nitro Pede- $289.99
I think if I was looking at a Pede I would front the $30 for the SportMaxx that is bigger, stronger, faster, and more upgradeable. I'm personally not getting any of these but for people to just say how stupid it is... Get all your facts straight

you should not get a t maxx of any sort if you plan on taking it off huge jumps (aside from the supermaxx of course). Maxx's break all the time. That is one of the biggest misconceptions about them. They are great for ballparks and tracks, but dont take them off 6 foot tall jumps.
Sorry guys, per the Traxxas website " due to the unexpected high demand for the 2.5 Tmaxx, the SportMaxx release has been pushed back to March 2003". Have a nice wait!

Hi everyone im new to the rc thing. So i was wondering if i could get a little input.Im going to be buying one but im not sure what to get considering i dont know duky about this.I was considering the traxxis but im not sure if it is 1/8 scale. Also i was considering the monster pirate,or a dominator extreme. My brother has just bought both of them,we tried to start the pirate but the pull cord broke first pull.We did get the dominator running but its hard to tell how it will be when its finally broken in.So if i could here some of your opinions that would be great help to me.Thanks guys.

I might be new to the nitr rc field but im just replying to the comment that t-maxx always breaks off big jumps i borught my t-maxx to a dirtbike track yesterday which has anywhere from 2-9 foot high jumps and had no problem with it landing just the bigger jumps it couldnt clear the gaps :p I dont care what ppl say a t-maxx aint clearing a 35 foot gap lol

The above comment is not my own since i am new to the nitro rc thing so dont flame me :p

Well your freind doesn't know much! Two kinds of people will be looking at a Sport Maxx. Those who cannot afford a Tmaxx and racers who have no use for reverse and/or 2 speed tranny. Or people who dont' already own a maxx.
I for one might pick one up. I don't like reverse and to me it's like a big ass stadium truck. 2wd is okay so probably the only thing i'd get is a 2 speed maybe but I dont know. Anyway to each his own.

Just reading through the thread more and people need to get their facts strait. The Sport Maxx will not cost 320 it will be around 300. I have seen it online before it was delayed for 289. Yep same as the pede. Tower always starts kits out higher before they are released. I think the price will drop there too.
Traxxas says it won't replace pede but I think it will & should. That thing is NASTY! Sorry pede lovers. At 289 it probably will. For me its a great buy. I don't need a 2-speed & alot of the guys have problems with there 2-speed at our track. It's a short track so it doesn't utilize it. Plus I already will race my dom so I might just get it to see what maxx life is all about.

hi guys...N02 at the traxxas board said the n-pede will not be taken away unless sales fall off...so n-pede fans can reast easy..:)
if it was me i would drop the rtr price of the n-pede to 249.00 and arr to like 219 or something..
anything lost(if any)from the pede price drop can very easily be regained thru the tmaxx/smaxx sales..
i own a n-pede and dont want it taken away either...but i do welcome the new smaxx with open arms.:D

Sport Maxx should be released soon. That 340 price at tower is starting to look nasty. Stormer has them on backorder at 320 but I doubt they'll get any in until mid summer at this rate. Ah well whoever get's one report right away. Can't wait to hear reviews!

Hey every one my friends dad works for traxxas and said the sport maxx should come out MARCH 20 2003, just so you know i know how all you feel and that this is a great truck at a great price so i ordered one with the 2 speed, reverse and the widemaxx suspension kit. why get the tmaxx when you have to spend 2 times as much for tires and it weighs more. so over all i feel the sport maxx is a great buy. and every one should own 1

I agree with ragamuffin nikko sounds more your speed, by the way duratrax evader bx and st are pretty nice my brother got the bx and my neighbor got an st. they are madd fast and have nice motors, all other duratrax cars's bodies look like crap!!

Alright, obviously there is a lot of thought going on in here. The Sportmaxx is cheaper than the T-Maxx, so obviously it is exactly what Traxxas says it is, a way for a beginner to buy a truck and upgrade it to a T-Maxx. Will it be more expensive in the long run? Yes. Will it be cheaper right off? Yes, which is exactly what they're refering too. Personally I didn't think that was so hard to understand but obviously it is for some people. Also, Maxxes are weak? Riiight, then explain to me why I've broken all of one thing (a rear skid) on my E-Maxx. Maybe I don't smack into curbs at full throttle, or try jump it off the roof of my house. I drive my truck hard, and I have a great time with it, and it has served me well, but I really don't see how you can call the Maxx weak. Oh well
R/Cbum4life
03-24-2003, 05:05 PM
If your not breaking stuff then your not driving it... LOL, I agree the maxx is very strong with the exception of the skidplates and the body posts. Don't waste money on stock replacements for either get rpm stuff and ti skids they are worth the money for sure!!!!
metalry101
03-24-2003, 05:17 PM
Ya, I definately agree there. Those parts aren't really weak, but I have broken both of them. Kinda hard to run RPM body posts when I'm running the Pro-Line suspension kit. It's worth the trade off though, less rollovers mean I don't need the beefy posts.

I've been jumping mine like crazy and not a thing has happened yet. The truck is very durable. As far as running hot, mine runs pretty warm, right around the 270 degree limit. It had been getting even hotter but I richened it some and cut a hole in the windshield, the front valence, and cut the rear of the body some. It def. helped but I am considering an aftermarket head.

How do you like the CVEC? I have a cvec on my touring car and am happy with it? Also, what type of temps does your sport run?
Thanks
Adam202
05-26-2003, 04:45 PM
it has been running in temps between 180-230, when i had the stock pipe it seemed to run alot hotter. i cant tune it to even get close to over heating cause it will stall out around 240. i like it alot tho except for jumping and landing hard it rips the coupling on the pipe. im going to put a nice thick coupleing with 2 metal clamps and hopefully itll solve the problem.

05-26-2003, 06:54 PM
Adam 202:
Thanks, I was going to put a new head on mine to get the temps down but maybe I'll just try the CVEC first. What did it do for performance?
Adam202
05-26-2003, 08:42 PM
well i didnt have the stock pipe on for to long before i got the Cvec. its not much louder[if any louder than stock]. i think it helped the mid and top range better. my sportmaxx will rip wheelies even easier. performance i couldnt really tell a huge difference but i like the rear pipe design. if i didnt get a good deal on this i would prolly save the 20-35$ and buy a nice sidepipe cause itll prolly give you the same performance for cheaper. if you plan on bashing hard id say get a side pipe. because the couplings like to rip off when you flip over bad. i think my Idea for a better coupling and clamps instead of zip ties should solve this. if i had a 2 speed trans i could tell performance difference alot more. because this 2.5 winds out my sportmaxx single speed really fast. Good luck on your decision.
rico750sxi
05-26-2003, 10:06 PM
I like the idea of the rear exhaust because of less mess. I'm not really looking for any great gains in performance, I was just curious. I can add the 2 speed for more speed. Thanks again

It is a good truck. ive had mine for about a week or so jumping off stuff as about 5 feet or so and nothing has broke besides the front bulkhead which ive had yet to replace. That was my fault because i hit a rock straight on at almost full speed. The Ez start does a good job of starting it and yet to have any major problems. The only thing i would do is cut out some holes in the body for cooling since is known for hot engine running. The only thing i will be upgrading on my SportMaxx is to 4wd. give you better traction on more loose surfaces. The reverse i have no use for and is just a waste of money. Its like $60 i think. The 2 speed i heard never works from one of my fellow employees from Hobby Etc. Overall great truck and wont let you down. And those who say the SportMaxx is crap have no clue what there talking about!!

My Sport has been very durable and it has taken a couple of hard landings. I would recommend it.

heres the deal fellas, i am going to sell my dominator on ebay. i need to know if the sportmaxx is better than the dom. if it isnt as durable (which wouldnt be that hard since the dom is a piece of crap and has done nothing but break on me) it is either buy the s-maxx or get my ntc3 ready to drive. i dont race it i just drive it on my drive way and out in the street. it is fun at first but then it gets real old after a while. so i need to know EVERYTHING that is good AND bad about this truck.

My SportMaxx has been great so far. Havent had any problems with it so far. Has great acceleration since its lighter than the TMAXX. The only thing you should upgrade later on is the 4wd for better traction. Since the Sportmaxx is about 1lb and 1/2 lighter just gear it up and it would keep up with the TMAXX which goes 40 and you wouldnt even need the 2 speed. Overall great truck. The only thing i would warn you about is that the blue wire that ignites the glowplug will go bad in the first cople days you get it and drains the easy battery twice as fast than not using it at all. Just get a glow ignitor like i did and your truck will be problem free. :p

bought my new sport-maxx a week ago broke some stuff on it but all and all I would have to say that I am verry happy with it I also upgraded it with 4wd and reverse it has plenty of torque and power to spare with proper tuning. I have to get some wheelee bars it rips up the front end so easy even with 4wd option. so for any one who is interested in getting one I would it is worth it..
so I say way to go traxxas on a great truck  :D :D :D :D
and this is just what my sport-maxx looks like

Why is this thread not combined with the T-Maxx thread? I think it would be a lot better that way.
nitro littlejoe- Yes the sirio .12 will fit but I don't know about the EZ start. Does your engine still give you problems? If so, what is wrong? I had one of TRX's bad engines too. After they sent it back it still overheated but everything else was fixed. I bought an ACNCM head and it dropped the temps about 40 degrees.

hey gotspeed thank you for the information,
I got my engine back from traxxas and every thing is working great! but I noteced that the break's don't like to hold while trying to stop at full speed. needless to say I hit a curb and totaly wipedout the whole front end. all because the break's will not stop it. this last time I hit the curb I broke the upper and lower a arm's 2 servo's a servo saver turn buckle and bent titanium hindge pins and even bent and broke the front shock's. so now it's off to the hobby shop we go to get a bunch of replacement part's so I can race and bash again.

I am seriously thinking of purchasing a Sport-Maxx. Can you run it like an over-sized stadium truck? I can't decide between the Sport or a true stadium truck like the Nitro Rustler.
I have an HPI stadium truck and like the way it handles...but, it's electric and I am looking to go nitro. I am not into skying off buildings and such, but it will be jumping on a BMX track. I may possibly race when my skills are more polished. If I do race, then would it be better to just buy a stadium truck now? I also will do some backyard bashing and heard that the Rustler is not up for that task.
Also, can you get the Sport's frontend to stay down by adjusting the slipper clutch? I saw a video of either a T-maxx or a Sport and all it did was wheelie.
To sum up, I am looking for a racer and a basher in one package...I think the Sport-maxx may fill the bill. Who can tell me if it will or not?
Thanks for any help.

I think I'm going to order me an S Maxx and was wondering if the 2-speed option is worth getting? I've heard a couple complaints about it not working all that good. I've never owned a truck before just touring cars. I like the idea of being able to upgrade to 4WD if I want.

if you go to a hobbystore before May 1 and buy a sportmaxx, you get a free 2 speed module from traxxas. then just add the 4wd module. seeing how the tmaxx is usually $100 more and the 4wd is only about $45 I would go that route. Save $50 and don't have to take stuff OFF just put stuff ON! I think I want to do this myself to be honest, although my local dealer (IE my JOB!) is about 100 more than towerhobbies for the sportmaxx kit anyway......lol

If you work at a hobby shop, can't u just get a 4wd module for free!? that would be awsometo work there to because of discounts. Also does the sport maxx come with the 2 speed in it before may first or do they give you one to put on? Is it hard to put on?
thnx,
Doug

no the s-maxx is the stadium maxx, its basically a tmaxx with the good tires from traxxas and a stadium truck body, minus the 4wd. I spent 319.99 on my s-maxx and with the 4wd upgrade, 51.99, i come in about 20 over a t-maxx with a better looking body and better racing tires..... i like that idea personally

How do you like your SportMaxx nitro_joe. I'm thinking of buying one but was wondering about the durability. I've heard people say they broke easily and but I've also heard that they are very strong.
nitro_joe

I own quite a few rc cars, trucks, and helis but I find myself running my SportMaxx the mose. I bash it hard and race it even harder and the only stock pieces I have managed to break are the A-Arms. I replaced all 4 corners with the ones from RPM which are "nuke-proof" and I haven't had a problem since. The SportMaxx is lighter and quicker than a lot of other 1/10 scale monsters out there and can easily be turned into an extreme race machine. If you want to race your SportMaxx order a back issue of RC Car Action (March 2004) and there is a great article on how to turn your SportMaxx into a RaceMaxx.
If you are looking for a 2wd monster truck, the SportMaxx is the one to get.

What fuel and glow plugs do you run/recommend in your SportMaxx?

I run Trinity Monster Horsepower 20% nitro and McCoy glow plugs and the performance is great.

the only thing that i have grown to hate on my sportmaxx is theshocks. THey are not very firm. I bought a full cage from tmaxxrus.com 4 18.85 and that damped down the shocks a lot but then i just put on some trinity springs.

Sportmaxx91,
I noticed the same thing with the shocks. I upgraded to the Traxxas Big-Bore kit with Trinity 40-wt shock oil all the way around and it made a world of difference.
I think I am going to try a 4-shock setup soon.
