You can buy four NMHI rechargable AA's with a charger...your you can get a 6v 1100-1200 pack but the charger issue get more complicated...

I think I will go with the HPI Type F5 Truck Wheels... As there are adapters for them, I doubt it can go wrong then.

HOWEVER, the front wheels/rims needs 3/16 x 3/8 x 1/8" unflanged bearings, TH got that size but it doesn't say if they're unflanged or not (I have no idea what it means btw). Any ideas? Will those fit the DT-10?
I also saw that I could buy aluminium washers, is that something I need or can I be without it?

DCLXVI
05-26-2004, 12:06 PM
Shelter, unflanged is "fasad" in swedish I think...it means more or less that it is an ordinary bearing with flat sides (the flanged ones looks somewhat like a T)...

Problem with using the " bearings would be the inner diameter witch needs to be as close to 4 or 5 mm as possible...

Well, I don't really wanna order until i'm sure the rims fit. It doesn't say in the description if they fit cars that uses a pin instead of hex... I'm going insane.

shelter,

I have a set up HPI rims, not the F5's but they fit. you will need a set of rear wheels to get all the adapters, and you will need to redrill the axle hole in the hex adapter, but they will fit. I beleive I made a post about this early in the forum. I will try to get some pics. on the rims and adapter so you can see what I mean better. I think the only wheels that will not work, are wheel made for lois trucks, I know their cars have a funkey adapter.

Yeah, pics would be nice... I'm a bit curious about the front wheels also, as they're different. The F5 ones requires a bearing as I stated above. and I'm not sure it will fit.
Which HPI rims did you use yourself?

Falco
05-26-2004, 04:47 PM
I have the MT Super Star wheels (two sets of rears, no fronts). I'm not sure why you would need a bearing for the front wheels, but I'll look at mine and see if it makes any sence (sp?)

DCLXVI
05-26-2004, 04:54 PM
Instead of the bushings...you'll need something between the wheel and the axle...

Falco

don't see why the bushing wont work though...

Sorry, no pics today. All you need to do though is just make the center hole in the hex adapter a bit larger. The hole is too small for the DT-10 axel, I forget what size I had to redrill the hole, but HPI's site says 5mm for the TT Pro GT (and all Traxxas), so, it's probably a good size. The hex adapter already has a slot cut in the back to hold the wheel pin, so don't loose them when you change rims, you will need them. If the new rims come with a washer (mine did), use it. The washer will fit between the rim and wheel nut, with the flat side against the rim. hope that helps!

Is my Radio is DEAD

Had the truck out yesterday and all of a sudden I get no power. Lucky as I was at full throttle!

Walked over took off the top and the servo is dead. And the steering servo is very weak.

Plugged in a hi-tec servo I had kicking around which I knew worked. It was ok for a minute and now that’s dead!

Is it possible that the receiver can kill servos?

I phoned the shop where I got it and told them I have only had it 3 weeks so they have said they will have a look at it for me. I am hoping they will replace the duff bits.

Any clues on this problem?

Cheers for now

the hex adapter i took the picture of is not the correct one, (just a bit bigger) but it should give you an idea of what it will look like. once you drill out the centere hole for the axel, the hex adapter will slide on to the axle and wheel pin, you can then mount ant 2.2" rim with 15mm hex adapters. If the rims you get come with a washer, use it! The ones I have need it, so the HPI mesh one probably will as well.

I took the front wheels off, and the HPI rear rims will NOT fit, I hope you didn't order them yet (may want to try RC10GT front wheels). The front axels do not use anty type of wheel pin or locking device, the wheel free spins on the bushing (or bearing). If you get new front rims, you might need a set of bushings or bearings to go with them. I would recommend bearinds, better preformance, but more maintainance. You should be able to get the bearings HPI recommende from Tower...

Well I only have one option left.

The shop said it was a couple of dead servos. Got some new ones and I STILL have the same problem although the throttle servo now works and I put some oil on the steering joints to loosen up the linkages.

I am getting loads of interference and the car has a mind of its own. I tried a new receiver and got the same results, so it can only be the crystal or the transmitter!

What a pain in the ass

It's been said before, the most common reason for "zombie servos" are broken crystals. It should say in the manual that you need something under the receiver so the crystals and the receiver don't break, unfortunatly it doesn't.

My RX with a different TX,
Different set of crystals,
My TX with a Different TX.

The only thing to try is a set of thunder tiger crystals as I seem to remember its best to stick with ones made for the RX/TX.

I now have it running on a borrowed Radio set. Only thing is it's a trigger TX  Takes a bit of getting use to.

I can't drill out the holes in the rims to make them fit the TTR brushings either because it will destroy the rim since the TTR brushings are too big. Other ideas are still welcome tho'.

On the good side, I mounted the replacement HiTec HS-625MG steering servo (what a damn job, had to ask my dad for help on that) and took the car out for a spin.... It runs better than ever for some reason.. No problems at all.

I probably need 2 pairs of 5x11mm bearings. The 3/16x3/8" bearings I bought does NOT fit the DT-10 (luckily I only bought 2 of them), since that's 4,76x9,52mm.

According to this page (http://www.hpiracing.com/wheels/wheels-t.htm) it's the 5x11mm bearings I should use even tho' the 11mm part doesn't really make any sense.

I had the exhaust/pipe coming loose from the engine just like you.
The gasket between the engine and the exhaust was destroyed so I went to see if they had any gaskets but they were out of stock. They suggested I make a temporary gasket from an empty milk package but I went a step further than that and bought real gasket material that could stand 225C.

And I haven't replaced the gasket I made out of that material yet... :) It haven't leaked and works like a charm!

Make sure those long screws that holds everything together are ok, and put some locktite on them but make sure it doesn't leak before doing so.
And if you decide to buy gasket material, make sure it's pretty thin (think milk package thickness)... if it's too thick it will affect the engine in a bad way.

Good luck...

I bought 2 pairs of 10x5mm bearings and I will drill out the hole in the rim to 10mm (it's 9,7mm now), I just need one of those special drills that makes flat holes if you know what I mean (the drill itself is flat too). Wish me luck on that one.. I could really use one of those "stationary gimlets" too... but well.. hopefully I can manage without it.

1. What glow plug are you running? If the stock one...try and replace it with a OS #8 or a QickFire F7 and the engine should run much better...

it works fine but could it be causeing the engine to get that hot

DCLXVI
06-27-2004, 06:58 AM
IIRC, a cold plug makes the engine run hot and a warm plug makes the engine run cool...the cold/warm marking refers to the ambient temperature, not engine temperature but this is as I said, if I recall correctly...

DT-10 basher
06-27-2004, 07:13 AM
i have a diff navarossi plug that is warmer i think, not sure, with it the engine would cut out after i started it, so the lhs man put the cold one in.

What nitro precentage are you running?

If you can find the F7 plug without looking to hard, try it, it doesn't cost that much...remember that you'll probably have to adjust your carb after changeing the plug...

DT-10 basher
06-27-2004, 08:30 AM
16%, when i use the normal 'warm' navarossi plug the engine will run and cut out straight away, thats why the cold one was put in so it would run alright,

i think i might have found what was wrong, i posted my troubles on the nitro forum and they said to clean the carb so i had a look into that and when i removed the big needle there was a piece of grass sticking out of the fuel nipple thing where the fuel goes in, i pulled it out and there was a load off fluff on it, so i hope its all good.

P.S, my lhs doesnt sell fuel filters as he thinks they are crap and leak all the time.

Do you think that hobby town has the parts I need for the DT-10...

I was woundering what the glow starter was used for, could some one hit me up on a little bit more information on this car.

I also was woundering if having a pull start is a pain. My cousin said that they are a pain to start and all of that good stuff.... He has the electric starter on his traxxas nitro sport... He just got into them not too long ago and I know more than he does.

He takes things apart and does not know how to fix them. He busted his whole rear shock tower and then his rear A-arm and he took it apart and the lugs were spinning on the car and he thought he did not have them tight enough. So I new what the problem was right away. I like to read up on nitro and those little X-mods that you get from radio shack...

It all depends on how and where you drive your truck really. Tighten the screws on the truck, apply some locktite on them. Maybe make a rollcage... and you should be pretty safe. :)

I've had some problems with my truck lately but nothing that's not fixable. I think it has to do with the something in the "gearbox" again... I'm just too lazy to look at it.

But I like the DT-10, it's not hard to get original parts for it either.

Dunno about the price these days, sorry!

You must put the glow starter on the glow plug to be able to start the engine since it's the only way to ignite it. You just charge the glow starter, it contains a battery...

Pullstart engines are quite easy to start once you get used to it. You can start it in one or two short pulls if you're lucky/good. :)

And if you can't put something you've taken apart together again, R/C stuff is not for you.

i've decided to go with the DT10, you guys all seem pretty helpful if anything went wrong :) . anywayz another couple of things to ask:

1. can i run the car on aircraft standard fuel 10% nitro? coz i goit my aircraft in storage in england and i got all this fuel thats useless because i can't transport it.

2. theres loads about wheels and tires, now can i buy extra standard wheels and fit new tires on them rather then do all the fiddeling, or is there a better looking set with only a little work. i wanna get mashers, they look cool and reviews say there tough.

3. i wanna give my truck 2 looks, standard stadium. and Monster truck beefy look  , is this possible with a little bit of shock work and the mashers? will it ride high enough?

4. and last but not least. is it easy to aggust the shocks for a begginer. i am aiming at engeneering so i know a little about hand work.

You should be able to run on 10%, as long as the fuel has enough oil in it (atleast 15%) but the engine will run better on about 20-25%...

The shocks are really a no-brainer...and it's possible to give the truck a higher stand by just by moving the shocks to other holes...

I think that the EK-4 are a more impressive truck, it is doulbe the price though...and not as forgiving to newcommers...

I don't know about the rims but Kyosho ST rims (Ultima ST rims) should be really easy to fit, just a hex adaptor and some drilling, fronts may be with a different bearing diameter though...that is the biggest problem, getting rims for the front, but the stock ones works, they seem a bit fragile though...

1. As long it is 10% nitro fuel (the % doesn't really matter but 10% is good for the DT-10 Engine) and not methanol fuel or something. Go with Red Alert or model technics nitro fuel.

2. Go with standard rims and just buy any type 2.2 truck wheel that you like, they will all fit (I think :)). However if you're going to have big front wheels you might wanna consider a better steering servo later on (if you go with the RTR version that is).

3. Not sure about the shocks... but when you get bigger wheels you will get the monster truck look. You can also get a different body if you like.

4. Don't know, haven't really needed to do that yet. When it breaks, I'll look at the shocks some more. :)

Hope this helps!

For a good allround tire I really recommend the GeoLandar from HPI and for grass the TracTaGator from Pro-Line are outstanding...

I'm curretly using the stock wheels but I am looking for replacements...either some dish wheels from Kyosho or some spoke wheels from HPI...

Servos can be hard to get centered properly...you need to be careful that you turn everything on before attaching the servo horn to the sevo so that you place it centered...

This is my list for hop ups:

Fix:
1. Ballon reciver...
2. Put foam under the reciver...
3. Threadlock everything...

Replace:
1. Install a fail-safe and do it NOW!
2. Install a fuel filter...also important
3. HiTec HS 545 steering servo (the 625/645 would be better but I don't think it really worth it)
4. HiTec HS 525 throttle servo (no need to go above here, just that the stock one tends to get worn quick)
5. A recargable reciver pack are very nice to have, it'll last longer to!
Optional:
1. Engine, I have the OS .15 CV-R, I don't think I need more power, I have problem steering as I accelerate anyway, and I have geard it more for top speed!
2. The DuraTrax shocks I have are nice, not neccecary though...the stocker are fine...

I'd suggest you put the reciver pack under the tray since it will lower the CoG alot...but you're spot on regarding the ballon!
Where are you going to run? The shocks should be soft if you run in rough off-road...I had mine set up so it was at the top of the damper stroke but it handeled like crap...but for on-roadish (soccer field, smooth lawn) it'll work...

All the replace stuff are optional exept for the fail-safe and I can't stress this enough, it's probable that you will spend more money on your first run away than you'll do on the fail-safe...the fuel filter are really nice to...nothing like finding sand grains in it and realise that you have prevented the engine form going insta-toast...

I'm sure that I forgot something...
Ah, if you get mad cracking rear bulk heads, build a rollcage, 3mm brass wire does the trick...

If it revs before dying you are to lean and should turn the needle counter clockwise to richen it...try 1/8 of a turn at a time and make sure the engine is warm when you tune it...

To make the engine run cooler, try 20% nitro and a QuikFire F6 or F7 plug if you can find it...otherwise you can try a OS #8, they should be easier to come by...

Theres gonna be some problem fitting the .21 in the DT-10...I'd suggest you go with a good .15 instead...

Well the 104-162 thing refers to the compressed length...if you fit those, the tires will be under the car...and the conversion set might be good if you have a HPI SF-2 servo...

DCLXVI, the enigine is not bogging because of fuel mixture it does it because there is so much grip with the tractagator tyres(ones with studs) i tried the car with my other stock tyres and it was fine, i also think that the heating is due to it being restricted like that. did yours do that? would shaving the studs down make a difference? thanks

I've used the TracTaGators and I had problem with keeping the engine cool, the solution is to change the plug and to run 20% nitro...if you like to be on the safe side you can cut a portion of the front window out...

Hey all, still can't keep that car running. I tryed to tune it in. Still does not wan't to run when I push my trigger fully. It makes me mad that it does not stay running I tryed to put the body on and then it stalls, it is like my car does not like the body. I still have to get my brakes working I was missing a set screw. The car worked fine when I 1st started it, know it does not stay running. Think that I should have hobby town take a look at it?

I also know this guy who sells Thunder Tiger DT-10 parts and he ships for free in the mail. His Email address is rcairplanes@yahoo.com. That is for the people who live in the USA. I forget wear he lived, that is where I orderd my parts and they are going to be coming soon. I had to get a differential Gear set, the gears inside them busted off.

Well safe runnings.

i had trouble with the running situation. i started from basics (2.5 turns from closed) about 20 times before realising i'd changed fuel when i changed back to my standard fuel the car ran fine after 1 more tune. on the stalling point, turn the lowspeed needle in a bit to open the carb about 1 mm when your control is at neutral (on but not touched). in all i don't think the stalling when not moveing has much to do with the not running properly. Do you want me to scan my papers and e-mail them to you?

anyway on to my new high torque faster servo, oh so nice; quick steering and i can now gradually steer (if that makes sense)

Well the bearing quoted by me are for HPI/Associated rims, I think that the DT-10 uses 10x5 mm in the front and 8x5 in the rear (just measure the bushings, they should be exactly the same)...

Hi guys. Ive been running my DT10 now for a few weeks. Problem is that the centre of gravity seems to be too near the front. If i go over jumps, car goes into forward roll. Has anyone found a way to move centre of gravity back so can jump and land on the wheels rather than on the front nose?

neilwillis
08-23-2004, 01:47 PM
Its all to do with your flying abilities!

When in a jump you need to control the car in the air by using the break or throttle to keep the car level.

It’s had to master and over small jumps its even harder as you have less time to decide what you need to do. I still can’t quite master it, but that’s what you need to do to make it land right.

Good luck,

Neil

I'm using the stock glow plug, but I'm not sure how that would change anything. The mixture valve seems to be #$%^&. I had it set at 2 1/2 turns, and I couldn't even blow air through the carb! I opened it to 4 1/2 turns and it seems to be fine. Hopefully I can play with it more this weekend.

Well, have a look at the bodies available at www.towerhobbies.com then you can measure the DT-10 and compare the measurements on the bodies to the measurements you took...

hello! I was thinking about buying the tt DT-10 but i want an opinion...I live in a island in Portugal and if i crash some part of the car i can not buy that part again...It will be very difficult to have a new piece...And because that, i was thinking about buying a stonger car, like the TT SSK 4Wd...It has the same motor, it's stronger, but it's a bit more heavy...Anyone knows about some videos or forums of the SSK,so i can compare these two cars...Give me your opinion???Please help me...

SSK is 0,5kg heavyer with basically the same engine...4wd is for bashing...if you want to race, 2wd is the word...it needs some skills at least...although it has a metal-geared servo as standard....but it doesn't look THAT MUCH stronger, and probably isn't 'cause it is easy to trash due to having only one-deck chassis...

also on the ssk it has plastic shock towers so they will probably break easier.
