It's not a stupid idea, it's been done for years! That's what the gas class is! What size motor are you planning to use and how big is your hull? I wouldn't use anything under 41", 48-56" is more the ideal size. Make sure that you use 1/4" flex cable and a heavy-duty rudder servo to turn the beast.

well i plan to find a way to mount a plastic cone over it to act as a weed gaurd and have the narrower end point away from the boat to concertrate the power and have a rudder on the back of the cone
