Hello Folks,

I had recently scrapped my Peck Polymers Mini-Bell for parts. I decided to keep the wing since it is in good shape. I was looking for a quick project to get me back in the air until I finished the other models currently under construction. While searching through my plan collection I came across the Airtronics Q-Tee. This was my first trainer. It was powered by a Cox Black Widow 1/2A engine and controlled by an overweight 2 – channel radio. It was incredible how it got in the air with those standard size servos!!!

I reduced the plans to 67% to match the proportions of the Mini-Bell wing. The fuselage was covered with Econokote to match the covering on the wing. I made the motor mount for the GWS motor from an old Credit Card. Holes were drilled to match the screw holes and clearance for the hub. The plastic was then cut down to match the fuselage. The entire assembly was attached to the fuselage with small servo screws. To assist cooling I installed a GWS heat sink to the motor. The cooling slots in the cowl are functional.

The model flies well with plenty of power for loops, snap rolls and spins. Hopefully I’ll have in flight photos this weekend…

Regards,
Felix Lopez

Hello Felix,

Sweet plane and clean construction.

Your website is also well done. There are a lot of interesting ideas in your New Projects section. In your laminated section, what kind of yellow glue do you use (photo 3)?

Presentation is as clean as your construction. Very nice. Will keep a eye to see your Bronco and Aeronca ready to fly ;)

Best Regards

Hi Felix,
That's a very pretty job. Nice pictures too. Thanks for sharing. It sounds like you really get good mileage from your parts and materials.
Regards, Dave

FLB,

I apologize that the photo descriptions have not been added yet. This will be remedied soon.

In photo #3 you see me using a yellow Crayon to wax the template before beginning the lamination process. The wax prevents the laminated part to be glued to the template. After the balsa strips are softened with water they are layered over the template. I usually let the assembly dry over night before gluing it. Finally I wick a small amount of thin CA glue to adhere the strips.

Thanks for the nice comments.

Sincerely,
Felix

Dave,

Thanks for the kind words. This one its just a warm up for the two GW Sport models I'm currently building. One is for my friend and the other one is for myself. I'm hoping to add nav lights on mine just like Gary (Sr71fan) has on his models.

I've added additional photos of the mini-Tee here:

I've attached a close up of the recycled credit card mount below...

Enjoy,
Felix
