Hello,

Does anyone have any info on the Voyager? I've seen a picture on the net, and from its specs seems to belong to the AMYA US 1 meter class. I'm new to RC sailing and am somewhat impressed by its carbon fiber mast and booms. I'm not sure though if its design, fittings, and other hardware make it a competitive boat. Any additional info, reviews or tips are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The Voyager is a good sailboat that can be setup to sail well, but it's more sport than race material. My Voyager wouldn't work well with the kit's suggestion of a standard servo to control the sails; so I used a Hitec sail arm servo in it's place. It does come with a decent stand, lead keel bulb, etc., so if you're looking for a good one meter fun yacht the Voyager will fit the bill.

Hope this helps,
RickE

Thanks much RickE. Am looking forward to getting the boat. Will take your advise and use the Futaba S3802 for sail control. Yes, it strikes me as a fun boat and I'll most likely upgrade some components as I gain more experience.

You might want to check the size of the Voyager's sail servo opening beforehand-I had to actually cutout the radio plate's space and mount my Hitec servo to a homemade plastic plate as the boat's servo "hole" is kinda a odd size. Also, you might want to replace the kit's plastic deck fittings with metal I-bolts to hold the sail set's shrouds-the ones on mine pulled-free after a few hours on the water.

If you have any other questions when you go to build the MRP yacht, post 'em here and I'll help as best I can

RickE,

Finally got the boat. Yes, I agree that eyebolts are needed for the shrouds given the large sail area. I've started attaching the fittings to the booms with CA and will most likely reinforce them by looping CA-laced string through the holes.

Overall I think it's a good kit although the plastic parts aren't as "refined" as those found in a Kyosho kit. However I think it's an excellent value for the money given that it's a 1-meter and that it comes with a carbon fiber mast and boom. Do you have any concern about its "seaworthiness"? Am particularly concerned about the seal between the hull and deck.

Thanks for your help.

So far, my Voyager hasn't shown any leakage problems-but I did add two more hatch latches to hold the cover down tight to the deck. The kit includes these latches and I used 4-40 bolts and nuts to hold them instead of the self-tapping screws in the box. I also epoxied the keel fin into the hull, yet I've had zero water around the mast. My boat's rudder tiller arm hasn't heldup, but an airplane-style gear arm with a 5/32" hole size can be substituted for the arm that goes on the upper rudder post.

Checkout the AMYA (American Model Yacht Association) website-they have a full club listing section on their 'site.

RickE,

The keel "slot" at the bottom of the hull protrudes by about a millimeter. When I insert the keel it looks like it's going to cause some turbulence. Is your kit the same way? I'm thinking of filing it down.

Thanks.

Yes, my kit's keel box had the same shape, what I did was to permentally epoxy the keel blade to the hull, as in I mixed micro-balloons with thirty minute epoxy to thicken the adhesive and created a fillet around the blade/hull which in turn hid the edges of the keel box. The area is now smooth as the joint between an airplane and it's wing, but you'll be unable to detach the keel for transport. I just un-hook the sailset and transport the Voyager suspended in it's scissor stand, and have no problems with my epoxied hull/keel unit.

Hope this helps,
RickE

Hi

I have just purchased a Voyager which I am soon going to start building.

But I am wondering if I should consider getting a Hitec HS-725BB Heavy Duty Sail Winch instead of using the standard servo. Or should I consider a HS-765HB Sail Arm instead of a winch?

I am new to all this RC stuff so not sure what is best. What is the difference between the winch and sail arm?

Cheers

Richard (in the UK)

Hi at all!

I am thinking to buy a suitcase for my Voyager. In this mode I could carry on my car it very simply!

I am looking for images of Voyager to produce the Voyager form in the suitcase. In this mode I will get into the case all accessories.

Are ok my english ?

Do you know where I could find it ?

thank you very much
