im going to get 1/4 crackerbox plans and get a homelite or a ryobi 4-stroke. right now im leaning towards the 4-stroke. the good thing with weedeaters is that they have a cable that runs to the spinner thing and all you have to do is take off all the extra hardware. and then mount the engine in the boat.

Your best bet is to get a Homelite if you can find one. There are tons of aftermarket parts available. Are you plannig on racing it or just playing? If you need more hep, go to tihs site, http://pub137.ezboard.com/bjimsrcboatdock

ya im now going to get a homelite, just got back from home depot and they have 3 homelites. im going to get a low dollar one. it doesnt have a clutch but its still workable. im thinking of just putting on a vilocity stack and maybe a tuned pipe. hey Ron do u have any weedeater boats?

No, I've got only nitro boats so far but I hang around with gas boaters. I would like to get one in the near future but I have to unload some other boats first.

I just spend the weekend running my homelite boat. Man, what fun.
the homelites are not fast, but they start on the first pull and don't stall till they are out of gas.
Save your money-NO velocity stack! NO tuned pipe. If you are keeping the engine stock.
Homies have alot of torque and low rpm-if you try to increase rpm's you can damage to crank (cantilever crank, only has bearing on one end.)
Use a surface drive and an octura 482 or a prather 275.
Change out the carb to a walbro 167a match all the gaskets (adds 2-3mph) and gut the carb.
Then just have fun (about 25-30mph)
Don't spend alot of money trying to make the homie go fast, $140 for a tune pipe system, when you could get a g230rc zenoah for $220 and the boat would run mid to high 40's.

Have fun!

25cc is the norm, they don't make the 30cc any longer. Although suppliers like warehouse hobbies and others make them. The engine you would get from home depot is a 25cc. Warehouse hobbies sells a mount for $45 that stuffs the rear case and fits the 5" rails. I take a 1/8 x 1.5 x 9 inch piece of aluminum, bend it 90 degrees 2" on each side. Drill two holes that match the bottom two holes of the rear case and attach it their. Then bolt the sides to the stringers.
(use a rubber washer in between the metal and wood stringers for vibration)
I secure the front with a hose clamp mount and some pvc pipe.
before you buy a new trimmer, call around. repair shops frown on the homelite because they are cheap, many places just give them to me used.

(Pics for mounting homies are on jim's dock somewhere)
