Basically an 05 or 540 motor is the most common used in R/C,,, examples are: Trinity P2K, Chameleon, speed gems, D4 & Reedy MVP, pulse, & sonic, made for running on 6-7cells usually 1/8" shaft,,, a 550 motor is a little longer can & arm for more torque, & 2 of these can be run on 12cells, usually used on monster trucks ie: Trinity Monster Maxx, & Reedy Badd Maxx,,, the 05 & 550 both have the same mounting bolt pattern, so can be interchanged,,,
a 700 motor is much larger, with a larger dia. shaft 5mm & a larger mounting bolt pattern, is usually made by Mabuchi, Johnson, or Graupner,,, these are the type that might be found in cordless power drills, they are made to run on 12-16 cells & are very durable for the price,,, the 8.4v 700bb or the 700 Neo are the 2 most popular in boating
goto www.hobby-lobby.com index to view all these motors, although they have their own system of numbering the smaller 05 motors, their 500 motor is an 05, and their 600 motor is a 550,,,
