Hello All,

Just wanted to know how many people are racing in the 1/18 scale class. HPI Micro or the SC-18.....

SC18-racer >> I have been running the SC18 by BRP It is awsome :) It beats the Micro hands down!

This car is awesome!!! I raced on one battery for 25 minutes! I took it to the local track, where everyone races a HPI Micro---- they were jealous of the SC-18! The best part is I am eaten up hoped-up Micro’s with an out of the box car! If you are looking for a great R/C racing car---THIS IS IT!

Might even sneek in some lap time camparison of my micro and SC18 on the same track.....should be cool !!

Hi,
I have a SC 18 and just love it! The car is really fast right out of the box! I chose to try the Speed 300 setup, to say the least it is AWESOME! I have beat 1/10 scale cars with this setup. For those of you who don't have a SC 18, you have got to try one and see how fast they are, for so little money!

Good luck,
Larry

I was just getting ready to put my sc18 back together for the winter season. Did a bunch of modifications and love the way it handles. They won't let me run my SC18 with the HPI's sore losers I guess.

BudBartos

Mystracing>>> You must have put a whooping on them. Thats pretty bad of the track or shop. I put on a series for the 1/18th cars Micros can run but they don't get any points.
I still for the life of me cannot figure out why guys want somthing that they know they will have to spend so much money on. Most of them just to look at it.
Watch for our new ad's coming soon!

Bud - I wasn't very clear in what I said. The shop really did the rite thing being as they have sold many of both types of cars. I didn't mean they wouldn't let me run at all they just split the classes so the poor HPI guys don't get thier doors blown off.

I'm guessing there will be a big shift here to the BRP cars. We haven't run an actual race yet, they just asked me to do a test run against a few modified HPI's to see if the cars could run together. They weren't sure the BRP could hang with the fancy HPI's. A lot of people walked away shaking thier heads.

BudBartos
10-09-2002, 04:14 PM
Mystracing>>> That sounds good! I hope no shop or track will ban any car.
We allow Micros in our club but since BRP sponsors it they don't get points.
Some will come out with the Micros and race against the BRP's then they buy a BRP or they don't come back.

Hey!!! It's good to see BRP racing lives on here at Radio Control Zone. We'll be starting our winter carpet season here in Pa. and we're looking forward to our 3rd year of 1/18 scale racing. Any new parts/bodys in store for us Bud?

K1m>> Nothing new right now! Putting the $$ into ad's.
We had 18 racers at the first series race in Cleveland.
It was fun Rich O won and I was second, Pat Barber took the first place points for the series.

Thats cool, they're a great little car just the way they are. I think more advertising will pay off too. Maybe a RTR with a nice Futaba radio & ESC set sold with it would attract the younger customers. We've certainly had fun with ours, they're still the best deal in R/C!

maybe a rtr, with a brushless, for the more agressive crowd :D :D :D

I have been have a BLAST with my SC-18 and BIG BLOCK setup... they ROCKet.
Several have seen te awsome speeeeed and power here at my track and I have had several folks try to master the car as it turnes into a blur, and after they get a couple of laps in they are ready to get one and try to beat me, not that Im unbeatable or a legand in my own mind, but Im not bad eather.
My hat has been off to Bud and BRP since I got my 1st one and was more than willing to carry and support the BRP line.
THANKS BUD :)

SC-18_Racer,

I tried the HPI TRC foams on Ozite using Pink (softer) rear donuts and the front compound of Magenta (harder). They were not ideal. The grip was too high in the front and the chassis wasn't balanced as it is with the Orange and Blue mix of the BRP wheels.
Plus the TRC wheels are UGLY!
Maybe they would look good on a Camaro or Mustang body.

I hear they are coming out with Purple compound and a few others.
Unless they are another wheel I won't try them...

I have a BRP Fun Wons w/ custom CF frame rails. its a cool car, and I want to run it now that the micros are available. Will i need a full kit to convert the car I have? Also, what is the part # for wheel adapters for the HPI cars. I want to get a couple of HPI bodies for it and im concerned about the Wheel offset.

Bud,
Is the Stadium truck body available through distibutors. I worked for a LHS for a while and never could find the part # thru the distributor.

It got attention at work, it was perfect. Now i want to improve it with upgraded parts. Get a newer motor, etc and make it a racer again.

#361 SC18 Wheel Adaptors
These adaptors will allow you to use the HPI Micro RS4 outer wheels on your SC18. Now you can have some real neat looking wheels on your awesome little car! Complete set includes front and rear inner wheels, ball diff hub front wheel bushings nuts etc. Does not include outer wheels.

You can use HPI outer wheels or Venom Racing outer wheels. Or the ugly (IMHO) TRC foams.

As far as the Stadium Truck...
Check out the bodies at:
http://www.brpracing.com/18bodypics.htm

It is # 255 available from Bud directly...

Bud or k1m will need to answer the upgrade questions. The Fun Wons has a wider wheeltrack, the SC18 wheeltrack is between 4.25 and 4.5 inches. Wheel base is 146mm.
You need to go with the wide wheel track and generally the 150mm bodies for best fit. Unless you don't mind the wheels sticking outside the body.

The 150 refers to the wheelbase, not width. the 140 and 150mm HPI bodies are the same width.

RAFster
12-19-2002, 05:44 PM
ClodKiller, I understand track and wheelbase. Not all bodies are for the widest track setting on the Micros.
The 150mm BMW body is a narrow track
while the 140mm Viper has one of the widest track settings for wheels on a Micro. They can adjust the front for 3 widths? in front and rear.
The SC18 with HPI adapters has a wider track than the stock foam tires and it also has a bit more ride height. If you run the TRC Micro Foams it has quite a bit more height.

hi,
after reading the posts on the hobby talk forum the futuba MC230Cr is the most recomended but that is only good for 6 or 7 cells but i want to be able to run 4 or 5 cell packs. what's a good esc for a low cost. i was thinking of the assosiated runner. will this be satisfactory for the sc18? thanx

So, anyone still running these?

Had two of them, great little vehicles but micro class didn't do well as the track was setup for larger 1/10 scale. When we did get a true micro track, the BRP was good enough to put about 5 laps on the rest of the field no problem.

the new SC18 V2 looks great, wonder if a carbon fiber version will come out.

Only grip I had was I wish they would have released it with a ball diff right away. vehicle was like night and day when you had the ball diff.

I bought an 18 V2 about 2 weeks ago. Went to my first race and was suprised that there were 24 BRPs there. Had a ball. Following week 20 BRPs.

I'd say there are a bunch of people running them and am very glad my Hobby Shop pointed me in the right direction. Great fun in the cold winter months.

Thanks Bud

Any new bodies in the near future. Want something different than the multitudes. :D

I got my eye on an older style 18 for funning around.

I would like to see more picks. Does anyone use traction compound when running like on 1/10 scale pan cars?

tcr
05-18-2005, 02:23 AM
I think our member "SC-18 Racer" did a very good improvement. But Why not BRP come out a much more agressive 1/18 scale pan-chassis like CRC, Corally, Team Associated, Yokomo and Kawada do for their 1/12pan-car? It will definitely make BRP completely stand out as a strong competitor.

What are the differences between the SC Fun WONS, Super Car 18 and the SC 18 V2? I couldn't find any chassis shots, and I'm kind of interested in these cars.

I know this thread is old but I just wanted to give people a heads up on how BRP handles defective products. I recently bought 5 brps to race during the winter. I also bought various tires, ball diffs, and hand picked motors. I ran one car for 2 days and the comm face of a hand picked motor fell apart. No burning and no hard wear just fell apart. I email Bud Bartos, the B in BRP, and never get a response. Two weeks pass so I call and he answers. I tell him what happened and how much stuff I bought and he tells me that he does not warranty motors because there made in China. I guess if everyone used that excuse we would all be SOL. I wish I would have bought a Xray. :(

show me a company that puts a warranty on motors, bud is a great dude, stop slammin him......

I don't care what you think of Bud personally, his "made in china" excuse is BS. Just about every R/C part comes from Asia. If I buy a motor that is hand-picked I expect to get something better than a regular motor. I guess asking for a product that is well made is worth crying for. Thanks for your well thought out response. I am sure that if I had a problem with any other company's motor they would tell me the same thing. I seems strange that Novak has this weird policy called a "product warranty". That's how it is spelled I just wonder how You pronounce it. :roll2:

01-16-2007, 08:06 PM
oh yeah, the bl systems. totally diffrent motor than a brushed set-up.

your the one that sucks becuase your crying like a little baby about a $10 motor.....

you must not have anything better to do. besides, if you knew anything about r/c, your motor would have been fine, im bettin that jerry-rig your stuff up.......

your still an idiot.

jacsac
01-17-2007, 11:38 AM
It is the principle of it. I want to buy another motor but why would I buy something I can't be guaranteed is going to work. I have 4 other stock motors and one hand picked one. The stock ones are not worth the bag they come in so I guess after the other hand picked one wears out or falls apart I will have to jerry-rig  new motor plates to fit a motor that I know is going to work. Anyway, I will leave the name calling up to you. I thought I had a legitimate gripe.

I called Trinity and yes they do.
