I'm looking to get a boat, right now I fly RC helicopters and there's a big lake in my neighborhood that would be great to run boats in. I like that new RTR Miss Bud, it looks great and the price is a steal. One thing I don't like is how it can only make right turns well. If I were to add a turn fin on the left sponson, would I be able to make left turns, or would that only make it not turn at all?

Hydro's only turn to the right. The real ones only turn to the left. That's the nature of the boat. These types of boats are built for speed. If you want a boat that turns both ways, I would suggest looking into a v-hull.

Thanks for replying, but that doesn't really answer my question. I don't want to sit there and do ovals all day, that's boring. If I put a turn fin on the left would that allow me to turn left? It may seem like a stupid question to you, but I don't know anything about boats. And the v hull I'm considering right now is the Traxxas Nitro Vee, my only concern in that it's too slow, at least stock. What else could I get that's in a similar price range?

This boat is made for right turns as the turn fin is on the right sponson. This boat does not turn very well to the left. Read the other postings on this boat for more info.
BTW, if you haven't gotten a Miss Bud by now, lotza luck finding one, they are selling out fast. Another line of small nitro boats is www.cenracing.com. If you find something else that you are interested in, just ask and you will get some honest answers in here.

Thanks for the link Ron. I did like the boats at that site. But what's the difference between the Aqua Jet and the Baja? They both look exactley the same to me, and the specs are the same.
And will somebody please answer my question about the Miss Bud? If I buy or make another turn fin and put it on the left, will the boat be able to turn to the left then?

You got me, maybe the decals? A turn fin could be mounted on the left side but it would add more drag in the water. Sorry, the best answers I've got.

Hmm, thanks for trying. I'm wondering if having turn fins on both sides would let it turn in both directions, or whether they would just cancel each other out. If nobody can tell me I'll just play it safe and get a v, I think they look cooler anyway.

You probably would be happier with a Vee-hulled boat than the Bud, it has to be kept at a high speed to stay on plane or else it'll cavitate badly when you try to get it back up, nature of the beast. Let us know what you decide on.

I know a couple of people in our club that bought the Traxis Nitro V. Neither of them were happy with its performance. You may want to go to www.aquacraftmodels.com and check out their new boat (Nitro Hammer). Its RTR and is fiberglass. I think Tower Hobbies sells them. Just don't buy an ABS boat that runs on nitro. I have owned several and they always ended up stress cracking. I wish I could tell you how the Miss Bud runs. I got mine the first day they hit the hobby shop (the only one) and haven't been able to run it. Where I live we only get to run once a month and we have been blown out everytime.

another option u could go for, if u like building ur owns is look at rcstore.com's selection of plans, get one of the nitro ones or a big elec. one and put ur own stuff in it. that way u could have a competetive boat for about the same as a novice RTR. then again, u might wanna start easy..............it all depends on ur preference.

Okay, I'll try to answer this, it seems like I did answer this question somewhere else in this site but here I go again. The boat will do left turns, not as well as rights, it's all in the design of R/C boats and is why we race in a clockwise direction. You can try a turn fin on the left sponson if you want to see if it will improve left turning. This is pretty much a 2 dimensional medium, we have left, right and straight and sometimes airborne.
