Well.......since HPI forum is going to a better system (or should I called it - HE_LL), I think I should start a Chicago racer/racing topic here so all the Chicago Racers can chat under this topic regarding the latest information and news......
So, post away..........anything, any ideas, and any hate mail are welcome........
Pls. tell eveyone that Chicagoracers are here in the zone. If Hpi would not cooperate and the hell w/that. Chicago racers needs to comminicate so we know what is going on around us.
Hihi Howard and Kakolitoy. It is Mike from Tinley Park racetrack (pink/green rs4). I am glad you guys made it over here instead of just dissapearing since HPI closed it's boards. I am not sure if any of the other guys are on here or not, if they are, I do not know thier board names. Nice to see you guys again, and hopefully this thread will explode with interest the way it was on HPI.
I can't wait till next years touring car season, but until then I am going to try racing some out at Monee on the dirt oval with Tony G. Maybe one night you guys could take a ride out and check it out. It's certainly not as fun as onroad (not even close really) but it's better then racing nothing at all is what I am thinking.
BTW, do either of you know if 5 ports are going to be legal at Tinley next year? I will ask Walt next time I hear from him, but just wondering if you guys know.
There should be no problem using 5 port. We are not racing in Roar or Ifmar rules anyway.
It would be more fun if we could do everyhting in 200 mm and .12.
It is ok. Becuase the guys from Tinley ordered 3 Novarossi S5, and 3 serpent 705 from me. the stuff will be here in the end of the month. I am not sure if u noticed them. There the 3 big guys and they are all good freinds.
3 big guys? are you talking about those guys that always pit down at the far right end of the track? They have a black F150 crew cab, a couple RS4-3's and that maxx where the guy stops on the track to do wheelies?
I don't think I've seen a 705 yet... is that the model car that Espo was running when he stopped out a few weeks ago?
2 weeks.......? If I order today, I will get them by next Thursday......btw, it was MIKE that holding me up, I don't need no engine, I need my 3PK radio.......and some foams.
It looks like we've move here... that's fine with me. In case it's not obvious, this is Walt, Race Director, Chicagoland R/C Raceway.
Some stuff I want to comment on:
First, if you're looking for a place to race in the off season, I'm going to host a micro/mini-z race at the bowling alley on Sunday, November 24th, around noon. This will be a 'fun' race (and free), and will take place after our RCNASCAR organizational meeting which will start at 11am. If you're interested in running RCNASCAR oval races next year on Friday nights, come to our meeting at 11am... if you just want to run your micro/mini-z, you can come around noon.
We'll have the micro/mini-z track set up with our transponder scoring system going (and me teaching others, like Tony, how to run it for next year since I can't run all the races), and we hope people will buy some pizza and beer and watch the Bears game on the big screen (which will be in the same room as the track... cool huh?).
If there is demand for some micro/mini-z races this winter, I'll host them, so let me know.
Second, I don't see the Chicagoland R/C Raceway enforcing any draconian engine rules for Sunday touring car racing, however, we WILL have engine rules for Friday RCNASCAR races. We'll vote on it at our meeting on the 24th, but I'm proposing a $200 'claim' rule... if we want to do a rule for Sundays, I'd recommend the same thing. If you don't know what that means, it's a rule that is used in some local short track 'real' car racing... basically, you are NOT supposed to spend more than $200 on your engine... if you do, that's fine, but if another racer suspects that you spent more than $200, they can 'claim' your engine at the end of the race day for $200... you either sell your engine to him for $200, or give up all the points you earned that day. If you spent less than $200, which you were supposed to do anyway, then you shouldn't mind selling your engine for $200, because you can just take that money and buy a brand new engine with it.
Next, I heard that Espo is running for Serpent now, so I'd guess that he does have that new version.
Also, Howard, you can take a look at the results from the last race at Chicagoland R/C Raceway and see that I did indeed pass your NTC3 with my Super Nitro (what else is new?). I also managed to run just as fast as Espo with my Super on the day he raced with us (although he did leave early, so we don't know how that would have ended). Although Espo has said that he doesn't really like our racing surface, I hope he'll come out to some of our races to run with us (I also hope that we can get our surface improved, although I don't think it's THAT bad right now).

Oh, I am so sorry, I think I was wrong again, so SUPER NITRO with BIGGER GAS TANK "IS" considered 200m touring car afterall....... Oh, not to mention, who did tell you to loosen up a the rear diff a little so HE CAN RACE that day...? Hmmm, I forgot his name..........
What are you going to do next...........? .21 engine....? (I was kidding man.......)
I'm sorry to beat up on your poor little NTC3 with my big, bad HPI Super Nitro with a single speed transmission. I'm also sorry that I beat up on your poor little Impact last year at Harper, with it's bigger fuel tank, huge foam tires, big block engine, 2-speed, etc.
I don't want to hear any more excuses when I win a race, so next year I'll have a 'regular' touring car like everyone else (I just don't know which one that will be yet... probably NTC3 though, but re-engineered by me so that there are no 4-40 screws threaded into plastic... I hate that Associated still does that).
By the way Howard, can you make it out to the bowling alley with a Koyosho Mini-z? It would be cool if you did. Those are fun little cars to drive, and real evenly matched (if you leave them stock like mine), so no excuses when I beat you :-)
Walt.....next year, you are not the only one with NTC3, Jim, John and Neal are there as well with the team factory version.........so, who win or lose....no excuse.
And the Super Nitro..........I will do my best.
No...Winter is definitely the OFF season for me, still have exams to take and wife will never approve any race, btw, I don't have mini-z, just the ABC pocket race, a little bigger, and taller gear, so it is also not fair as well....besides, really need to get back to the house and family.
But we can still talk about the online hobby shop business......have TONY G or yourself drop me a note.
Walt, I need your help on the Super Nitro 2 speed clutch setting.....I have no idea what parts do I need to install the Nova Rossi engine on the HPI.....can you help?
I don't think you'll need any special parts to put the Novarossi engine into the car with the 2-speed (if you even want to use the 2-speed... I've always had better luck without it, and every time I try it, I end up pulling it right back out again).
Anyway, the 2-speed clutch bell should match up to the Novarossi engine no differently than any other engine. The only possible difference you'll need to make is to take out the 'shift point adjustment' setscrew all the way and take a look at the little spring in there. The HPI 2-speed comes with 2 springs, and you'll want the stiffer one in there for the Novarossi engine, or it will shift too soon. I want to say that the black spring was the stiffer one, but I'll have to check my instructions at home for sure, unless HPI has them online in PDF.
Walt........please tell me you DO have the SG crank MT-12 engine...because non of the HPI parts work on SG crank unless I custom make everything for it......
I think HPI is plug and play.............I am they required more knowledge then Serpent.
Anyhow, I think I will try to make it on 24th since I just STOLE my pocket racer from my brother, and hope I can run some laps with those Mini or Micro (my cars are slow and heavy, but just try to have fun)
And can you please bring your Super so I can take a look......I need to write some notes and start breaking in the engine.
And yes, I will as well get the single speed conversion as well......if you have any Super parts for sell, please let me know...like 1 extra set of single speed, clutch bell....etc
My engines are all 'standard crank' (like O.S. I guess), so I don't know what you'll need to do for sure to get the 2-speed clutch bell on your engine. I thought you could cut the SG shaft to make it look like a normal shaft, but I'm just not an expert on that stuff.
The base of a SG shaft engine is wider than the base on a threaded engine. The stock HPI flywheel will not even make it past the SG shaft threads... I've gone through this too trying to get a SG mt-12 in my RS4. Basically, HPI does not support SG crank motors, so you will need to have the flywheel custom machined or maybe find a substitute. I have a MTX-2 flywheel that looks like it would fit in the RS4 if you repositioned the engine further forward a little.. so that might be the trick, run a different flywheel and make your own engine mounts then reposition the engine. Who knows what it will do to the weight balance, but that is the only way I know of.
All I gotta say is... HA-HA-HA-HA-HA to Howard! No T5 race for you in the super Mr. Howard.... Not like you need the power anyways! (better for us)
YES.......by not putting my Super Nitro Back to EBAY, I will need any kind of help.
I think RS4 and very much the same as the Super Nitro (for the distance)......so if you can mount the Rossi SG crank ont he RS4, I bet there is a good chance to mount it on the Super Nitro....otheriwse, I will be force to sell the T5 to JIM and get a Standard crank engine.....which I don't really want to do that.
This motor is a SX 12 turbo sg crank. The motor mounts I used was the stock HPI (I do not recommend this). I grind this mount I just cannot remmember how much, but the motor sit exactly on the chassis so the flywhell can crank easily.
