Well I just ran it for the first time today and I have nothing but good things to say about this buggy.Break in went beautifully without a hitch but before you start it for the first time I would check the high speed needle valve.Mine was a little rich.I brought along my starter box just in case but found the buggy would easily start on the first or second pull.Tunning it was a snap - just do it in 1/8 to 1/4 incriments. After 7 or 8 tanks I found that it would easily pull wheelies which I'm not really happy about because you have no steering control and the bottom of the battery box gets worn out.Needless to say it has plenty of top end and I would highly recommend this buggy to anyone who wants plenty trouble free fun.{I was a little hesitant to buy a Duratrax because of all the negitive posts about this company but from what I've experienced it's a great car at a great price.**
I'm thinking about getting the Nitro BX in the future sometime, may not be for a while, but I would like to get another nitro vehicle again.
Is there anything I should know about the vehicle before I get it, any weak points, things to watch out for? Insight to this would be good. Also, how does the DTX .18 perform? RCCA's review said it had a good amount of power, but can anyone tell me how it reacts to fine tuining, ease of tuning it, and its performance whence broken in?
I just orderd my nitro evader BX yesterday from tower hobbies. Hopfully it runs just like what Havoc223 was saying.
one question though, how fast and what kind of handling does it have?
In RCCA's review, they said handling was great. Although because it is a buggy, it will bottom out over jumps easier than a truck, and as usual, won't handle bumps as well. It also runs short of grip than power, however, they said if you can manage, you might be able to pull off powerslides and what not.
These are great little cars. I've always been hesitant to get a Duratrax but Towers had the prebuilt on sale for $166. I thought it looked like a good platform to build a nitro Eastern Dirt Modified on but after I ran it I'm not sure that I want to do that. I think I'll leave it as a buggy and see how many people I can surprise with this thing. My only complaint is that I would like to gear it for a little more top speed and less take off but I haven't been able to find a 32 pitch clutch bell that will fit it without having to do a mess of changes to the engine location.
I've found a way to gear my car for more top end and make the clutchbell more durable at the same time. Order an associated spur gear for the 1/8 scale monster gt, it is the same pitch gear as the regular clutchbells that fit duratrax. They are built out of harderd steel and are larger in dia. so they should last a lot longer and give more topend at the same time.
Guver, sorry, I should have been more clear. I used part #LXGFW9 & LXD211. Both part numbers are from Tower Hobbies. That gives you a larger dia. clutchbell and more topspeed.
Unfortunitely it wasn't as good as idea as it looked. The spur gear wasn't offset enough to mate with the spur gear right and I ended up stripping the spur gear. So for now I switched back to the regular set up until I can find a spur gear that is flush on one side and not on the other.
I picked up my new custom clutch bell, perfect replacement. The associated pinions screw onto it. The factory bell is a 15t, I added a 20t. OMG does it fly ... tires were ballooning like crazy. This weekend I am gonna pick up a 27t and probably rip the tires off the rims. LOL
Change of plans. The tires came off the rims with the 20t so I am staying away from the 27t. LOL Can't go WOT or the tires just start spinning. I have foam showing thru one of the tires and I did not finish one tank of fuel.
