What kind of speed are you guys getting?

Hello guys, I figured I start a new thread. I just want to know what kind of speeds you guys are getting with vehicles, motors, batteries, gearing, and method of attaining speed readings. For starters, I have a couple:

Losi XXX-S Graphite +. 1515 6 turn motor geared with a 15 tooth pinion, 90 tooth spur. FDR = 10.98:1. 6 cells Sanyo ultra metal 3000 batteries. Mercedes CLK DTM body, rubber slicks. Top speed was 50.6 mph. I only have about 400-500 feet of straightaway and with this gearing, the sedan I think hit top speed within 2-3 seconds. I measured it with a Garmin Etrex GPS. This setup is actually pretty cool on the motor, controller and batteries. They were all about 140-150 degrees F.

Emaxx 12 sanyo 3300 cells in series. Lehner 1920 5 turn motor geared 15/72 which gives an FDR of 23:5 to 1 gave a top speed of 43.4 mph. Stock everything else. This setup was really burning up the electronics though. Batteries were over 200 degrees F!!! Once again, I measured speed with a GPS.

Sorry, that's 23.5 : 1 for the emaxx. And here's the total picture of the XXX-S. BTW, Iwas going to test it with the bigger 1920 5 turn motor, but my car broke...

I have a fairly long and detailed list of the tests I remembered to post results for and happened to have my GPS with me at the time HERE

The 1515 is a Lehner motor. rumrunners used to sell it but not anymore. Maybe you can special order it from fine design - but if you do, you neet to get a special adaptor plate because the motor is really small and the stock 540 mounts won't fit onto the motor. If you get this motor, just be cautious because it spins at over 9000 rpm/volt an putting too much load will burn the motor or putting more than 10 volts might blow the motor.

54mph in e-maxx, 15-16lbs, dual Hacker XL motors, 16 cells each, geared 31/54. This was the highest I got out of it due to transmission gears and it was in 1st gear. Using GPS as well.

64,5 mph in a Kyosho TF-2R with 6 FAUP 1950 mAh cells and a B406L.

Speeds in the video is around 95 km/h when I go uphill. In the first run going downhill I hadn´t got the speed up (very short distance to accelerate).
The real speedtest was done away from traffic on a level road.

well, no real speed readings yet, but I just drove my rustler, and got out of controll (I'd guess at about high 50's- low 60's) and it got on 2 wheels, and decieded to go airborn...
went 10 ft horizontal, and 3ft vert.
right into a telophone poll

my 8 cell batt pack doesn't have one straight batt bar on it, and it was basicly wraped around the chassis.. (coldfusionracing chassis w/ upper deck)

the tranny was completely ripped off from the chassis (stripped all 6 holes on bottom, and broke the top 2 holes on the upper deck...
and took a huge chunk out of my body. all that, and it hit the poll on the top front. luckily no REAL damage, just got tweaked really bad.

Totally stock Emaxx (mine is weighing 11.5lbs with batts)
12 GP cells in series

Lehner Basic XL3600
Schulze 18.97KW
14/66 gearing

1st gear 26.3mph
2nd 38.0mph

ESC and batts barely warm after running. Motor about 130*F range.

Going to try a 16T pretty soon. Done with a Garmin Geko 201 GPS (small lightweight version, great for RC speed testing)

I have a nearly completely stock RC10B4 (just added an RPM bumper & gear cover). I run a Lehner BASIC 5300 motor on a Schulze U-Force 75 controller. For speed I run 8 FAUP cells, and for normal running I run 6 Sub-Cs. With the 8 FAUPs and 25/81 gearing I hit 50MPH flat according to my Venom Speed Meter, and it is relatively accurate; I factored in my tire's balloonage at top speed for the input. For tires I run Pro-Line Dirt Hawg I & III's. All power wires are Dean's Wet Noodle 12 gauge, using Dean's Connectors on the batt and 3.5mm gold plugs b/w the motor and controller. Pics to come tomorrow if you guys wish to see.

FYI, I picked up my Lehner Basic XL3600 from b-p-p.com for $139.00 shipped to my door, with an extra set of gold motor/esc connectors.

EDIT: I put up too many pics...figured I'd leave the nice, show-offy ones and get rid of this and one more to make it easier on the 56k guys around.

What type of cells are those? I do not remember my B4 battery tray being able to hold 8 cells. They look smaller than a standard sub-c type cell.

What kinds of speeds are you getting? I reached 45mph with a Novak SS5800 and 7 cells in my old B4. The B4 has one of the most efficient drivetrains on the market today. It also is VERY lightweight. I would assume 55-60mph wouldn't be too hard with 8 cells and a Lehner 5300.

They look like double AA cells. I think they're called FAUP cells?

ElectricThunder--> Thanx...I kinda like it myself. The Schulze U-Force 75's are running about $250 (US) before shipping, but are well worth the cost. They have excellent throttle smoothness and control, and can be hooked up to your computer using a special interface that's only another $50 (I think) to adjust EVERY SINGLE parameter....I want to get that interface to play with it a bit. They seem to be the most popular controller now for those with the $$$ to buy one, and as such it's kinda hard to find places that have them in stock right now since they're selling like hotcakes. I got mine here, but I'm not sure if they currently have any in stock...I had to wait about a month/month and a half for mine to get in stock and arrive at my doorstep: http://www.modelflight.com.au/lithiu...olymer_esc.htm

Mtrsprt--> They are 1950mAh Ni-MH cells, more commonly known as FAUP cells. They are not to be confused with AA cells...AA cells could most likely fry under the Amp draws of a geared-up brushless if ran for more than one or two speed passes. FAUPs are about the same length as the sub-C cells from pole to pole, but are 4-5mm smaller in diameter, allowing 8 of them to fit perfectly in the B4 battery tray, minus the foam spacer block. As for speeds, I hit 50MPH flat according to that nice VSM you can see on my servo in those pics, and I can still gear up more to get my absolute top speed...I'm guessing 55-60 isn't too out of reach either. My controller is getting mighty hot now though, along with my batt, but I plan on getting a small mini-fan to get some air flowing under that tight-fitting B4 body to help alleviate that situation. Only other thing is, the FAUP cells drop in voltage more under load than the GPs do (Since they are smaller and have a slightly lower Amp capacity), so I won't be able to push my speeds to their absolute max until I build byself a custom 8-cell GP pack that'll fit in the B4. But for now, the FAUPs work fine, and I'm near broke anyway....but I've always heard speed costs money...I guess whoever said that was right.

DaFF--> Thanx. But as for those blue pieces, those are two capacitors I wired together and hooked into my battery slot....I heard somewhere that when the power gets hooked up, they get charged instantly and sit there. If the radio temporarily loses power, they're supposed to take over providing power to the reciever and servos for that split-second loss and help reduce the risk of a glitch or a crash resulting from that. I dunno if it actually works, but it helps me feel more safe running this beastly fast setup.

I'm sure Lipos would fit, but that's again more donugh ! I guess a 3S pack for 11.1 volt for extreme speed run. Mind you, with the Amp draw from the 5300, you'll need very high discharge Lipo and someting like at least 6/7 Amp.

So I guess, it would not be possible, because you would strain your Lipo too much.

Better off with a milder motor like a 4200 to keep the Amp draw under control if you ever want to use Lipos...

( You're posting and editing too fast for me LoL )
