O.S. Engines .18TZ competition rear-exhaust small-block

O.S. Engines has just introduced a new, high-perofrmance .18TZ engine that even rivals the performance of the .18TM engines for the T-Maxx and Revo. The new 18TZ includes many of the same features, plus a five-port piston sleeve, a two-piece cylinder head designed for use with a turbo glowplug, and there will be a model available with a pullstart too! A new small-diameter pull-starter allows easy installation of the exhaust system without interference from the starter housing. The new TZ was recently tested on our dyno for RC Nitro Magazine and produced a record 2.28 horsepower and also set a new record for the highest torque from a small-block at 83.1 oz.-in. @ 25,850 rpm.

That engine would be great for a "Super" sized on-roader. Too bad that class is dead. fun to race and watch. I still have a HPI Super RS4 and a Tamiya TGR collecting dust.

holy smokes...that looks like an excuse to buy a 1/10th on road and try to set some sort of nutty speed record.

It would work, but OS is coming out with a rear-exaust .18 much like this one with a header for the Revo and the case is a direct drop-in. It also accepts pullstarts or EZ start. This would not be a direct drop-in for the Revo, becuase of the fins on the bottom of the case. So taking all that into account, it would be a much better value to get the Revo version.

Unless they offer a IPS or a threaded shaft version of this engine, it will not fit the Revo without some clutch refitting. Unlike most of the other cars on the market today (aside from the RC10GT's), the Revo uses a shorter, imperial crankshaft which differs in length and thread size from a regular SG crankshaft (what the 18TZ has). If you want an .18 rear exhaust engine from O.S. for the Revo, the 18TM is a direct drop in.

I do not have the pricing, but a threaded crank version will be available.

Narse - yes, it fits the XXX-NT.

Helicopter Pilot - O.S. says this engine makes about 10 percent more power than the .18 TM.

Let there bee an open class next season. This thing will be in my CD3. If only they could crank out a legal .12 that can hang with the italians. Then again, they may just have one up their sleeve

Now thats a nice engine. Actually makes me want to keep my Sport NT. It would've been nice if my Mugen and RB engine came with more nice markings on the heatsink. I haven't seen many powerful .18 RE's on the market. Glad OS is making one.

We run the side exhaust version in our sprint cars. Its a very tourquey engine. Doesnt seem to pull near the RPM's as most others. If I am correct it has the same crank as the RG .21, and a slightly larger piston than a CVR .15. As well as the same case as the CVR .15.. The sleeve is really thin compared to most other OS sleeves on the market. I want to try this engine really bad. I can't wait till it hits my local hobby shop.

the side exhaust .18 is the fastest .18 on the market right now...it seemed to pull more rpms than the other .18's in the shootout..recording the highest top speed..and getting there fastest....and it cant have the same case as a .15 cvr..as it is not a rear exhaust engine

Neither this or the .18 CV-R have any parts in common with the .21 RG. This TZ engine has nothing in common with any previous engine besides a vauge similarity to the .18TM, which is also brand new.

The CV-R is very capable of revving very high. You should try tuning your pipe a little bit. In the testing I just completed on the .18 engine guide, the CV-R pushed the T-Maxx over 40 mph, which means the engine was clocking about 39,000 rpm. That's screaming when you consider the load of pushing a big T-Maxx. With a moderate load, it could easily run the low 40K range - not that you would want it to, but it's certainly capable.
