Tamiya Desert Gator

Tamiya’s DT-02 chassis debuted as the friction-shock Super Fighter G, but Tamiya has now tricked it out as the Desert Gator with a lightweight Lexan body and wing, oil shocks, adjustable upper links and dish wheels. Expect upgrades galore for this one!

I wouldn't mind seeing a race quality version of this. How do Tamiya wheels mount, are they a hex and if so what size?

That looks pretty cool for a Tamiya buggy. To me most of their buggys look kind of old school. Any info on the price?

Don't tell me those are the standard 80s hubs up front!

Cute little buggy, but the person in charge of naming vehicles for Tamiya needs to watch Animal Planet occasionally. Desert Gator = dessicated carcass. Hyena chow even.

You gave it away, Water Eagle was for their top secret prototype boat.

It uses 12mm hex hubs to keep the wheels on.(same as touring cars). For chassis pics check out the dt-02 thread in the electric off road section.

Academy SB rims at least hex wise would work. Would have to verify the offset.
Would love it if Tamiya came out with a race quality version of this kit.

Tamiya offers dish wheels of its own, but SB wheels do fit as well. The fronts are a different story, since they have to hold bearings and are too narrow for modern buggy rubber (unless the Gator has wider front rims than the Super Fighter G). I plan to swap out the stock steering knuckles for Associated units, so I can use standard Pro-Line front dish wheels.

I would be happy with a lightweight chassis.

Dremel + Chassis = lightweight (or a REALLY messed up chassis.. )
If it were a durable, and ummm....not prone to breaking lightweight chassis, then I'm with ya on that one though!

I would be open to giving this a try. Looks very interesting. If Tamiya would make a race level version, I may pick one up.
