ROAR Mod Nats: Truhe 2WD, Tebo Truck, Hodap steals 4WD with X-5

RC Madness, Enfield, CT: The ROAR Electric Off-Road Nationals is a wrap! Mike Truhe won the first two A-Mains to score the 2WD title for Trinity/Team Losi, while Associated/Checkpoint's Jared Tebo took the win in Truck. In 4WD, Greg Hodapp stole the win from TQ Ryan Maifield and wheeled his Peak-powered X-5 conversion (it's basically a single-belt Double-X4) into the winner's circle.

Hey Pete!

That was some tight racing on Sunday!! Tough on passing. Wish I could have stayed longer, but I plan on being down again soon, and we'll see ya at Monster Madness!! What happened to MF, his truck seemed to slip during the main? Did anyone notice, I could hear something wrong...I think he's overdue for some good racing.

Later,

John

Did you notice that none of the pro drivers were running the Spektrum system? I wonder why?

Amezcua was the only pro running the spektrum. I've heard they don't believe it's fast enough, and the early problems with the failsafe engaging randomly dissuaded them from using it. If you always ran on 27 band, and had all the replacement crystals you could ever need, would you buy it?

I definately think Francis was suffering from mechanical issues. It seemed like he was in the back of the pack in every main.

It's funny how everyone was saying that Holeshots wouldn't work, though the tracks' surface looked alot harder than usual. Hmmmmm...

There was one driver that stuck out from the rest( they are all blazingly fast) but Maifield looked incredible on the track.

One more thing, just want to give a thanks to all of the Pros that signed my sons t-shirt.

I talked with some of the pros about the Spektrum system and they said they liked it. The problem occurs when you are paid to use a companies product. Lets take Matt Francis for example. If he is getting paid to use an Airtronics Radio, I am sure that Airtronics wants him using their equipment only, and not a modified version.

And yes, Matt was having radio issues, his truck would just stop on a set of doubles on the track, every lap. He was using 27mhz channels. I think only a handful of the pros were using the 27mhz FM channels. I think his 4wd buggy was ok, if it wasn't it still was going fast.

I was at the race, and there were LOTS of 27mhz related problems. We had a bunch of guys switch to 75mhz and like magic the problems went away. But some guys had problems on 75mhz as well. But it was way more problems on 27 for sure. Lots of "dirty" split crystals and japan channels that may have helped attribute to the problem. Also, track had a Chainlink fence going all the way around it.

Thanks
Charlie

My DSM went into failsafe during my truck heat and wouldn't re-bind. Worked fine during practice & warm-up races, go figure. Shook it around, it re-bound but did it again when in practice & wouldn't re-bind again. They are all off to Horizon land and i put the dependable Novak stuff back in (75mhz) and had no issues.

Other guys where running DSM with no issues, i was the lucky one...lol.

I've been running my spektrum in my Helios for over 3 months now, and I have yet to encounter a problem. I had no difficulties at the Nats this past weekend.
