Associated Monster GT 4.60 SE
More power for the Monster GT! Here's Associated's official press release:

The new MGT 4.60 SE has all the features you loved on the original MGT, and
now Team Associated has added a few more!
At the heart of the new MGT beats the AE 4.60 engine which has increased
displacement of 33%, making the MGT 4.60 SE deliver more horsepower and
stump-pulling torque!
To make sure all of that extra power gets down to the ground, the MGT 4.60
SE's 2-speed transmission now comes equipped with new tough steel gears and
steel CVAs that are up to the job of handling the massive torque.
The current rugged extruded aluminum chassis, oil filled shocks and huge
mounted all-terrain tires give the MGT 4.60 SE over 4 inches of ground
clearance, letting you take that power over almost any obstacle.
The new MGT 4.60 SE comes with Team Associated's XP-3 radio system that is
factory installed for complete and total driving control. A full line of
genuine Factory Team performance parts are available for the MGT 4.60 SE to
let you trick out your truck to your specifications!
Part number and retail pricing:
#20501, Monster GT 4.60 SE RTR, $839.99
UPC: 78469520501
Availability:
Early Sept. 2005

Steel gears and a bigger engine?...hhmm I wonder if people that own the original MGT will be able to get the gears and engine seperately. They need to get rid of that crappy radio system though.

Nice to see they put a more powerful engine in the vehicle. The MGT with only a .21 was becoming a hard sell with everyone else in the .25 and greater range.

I would take my MGT with a .21 on the track I run on anyday. It's too big to be labeled a small track, but too small to really be a "big" track. Coming out of the turns is right on the spot in the power band of .25+ engines where they fall flat on their face. They make lots of low-end torque, and can pull a taller gear ratio up high, but they have no pull in the middle.
I wish they would "pre-shim" the diffs though. They aren't a "perfect" fit on the stock truck, so a shim or two is necessary to get the gears to mesh perfectly 100% of the time.

Agreed. Personally, I thought it made up for it in other areas, but sometimes it's hard to convince customers of that.
I'm very, very happy that they did this...because now I can really start selling these instead of Savages. There's nothing necessarily wrong with the Savage, but I think the MGT is a superior truck...and it's even easier to start and tune than a Savage, which means I have fewer people bringing them back into the shop wondering why it won't start. Thunder Tiger engines always start and run...perhaps not well if the needles are 2 turns off...but they'll start and run.

I wish they would just make a factory team version even if it was just a roller. I might have to pick up one of those motors though.

I'm a little suspicious on everyone going to CC's instead of ci. Makes it sound like a .46 which is misleading, just like the savage.

I don't buy that. It's not hard to understand, at all. Anyone who doesn't understand (it happens, some people don't know mechanical things at all, they can be taught) can ask someone who does, and have it explained. If they don't ask, then that's their problem, let them think what they want. It's clearly labeled as a 4.6 CC motor for anyone who's willing to read. Those who aren't willing to do so, well...that's their problem, not mine, not HPI's, not Traxxas', and not AE's.

I just wish they'd offer it in a kit form... cause all I'm gonna do is change out the radio gear anyway! Besides it'd be nice to be able to build it from the ground up and not have to tear it down and rebuild it eventually! If I'm not mistaken, this is the only vehicle that Associated doesn't offer in a kit form!

If you compare the "suggested retail" that they recommend for the MGT SE... it's the same as the MGT! So we should "technically" be able to get it for the $380 that the old one was going for right? No-one would actually try to charge more for it because it's a "special edition" would they?

It will probably be priced more around the price it was when the original was released. Around 400-450

As has been stated so many times before...Tower always starts with their prices high, and then they bring them down. That way you get a pleasant surprise instead of an unpleasant one.

I wish they would take those fake things on the shocks off. If they are there for looks, they should look a whole lot better. To me, it just seems AE is not into the mt thing as the other guys. Almost as if the MGT was an afterthought.

AE must be pretty damn good if their "afterthought" is one of the best monsters on the market, if not THE best.

AE's "afterthought" = Thunder Tiger's R&D! The truck is a Thunder Tiger with a different hat on. But we all knew that 2 years ago...
