Team Orion Wasp Rev CRF engine

Click over to www.teamorion.com. You can't argue with a great video--this new engine looks as innovative as Orion has been promising. See for yourself, then come on back and talk about it here.

WOW - impressive lil clip they put together.

I think some of the new ideas that they came up with are going to really change/improve future motors! The concepts make alot of sense and I think you will begine to see larger motor HP numbers come from smaller blocks IE TZs and others. I especially like the sleve design with the expandable slits at the bottom. I really think thats going to extend the life of motors and take alot of abuse/heat. (not that I run my motors hot but for the newbs who cant tune well its a plus). In addition the head on this thing looks fantastic, I love it. Revo drop-in please

Looks good....cant wait to hear more about it

It seems to me like the main innovation here is the angled port on the crankshaft. Its a cool idea, and I really liked the vid. It was good at explaining how everything worked compared to a standard engine, granted it was a little biased seeing as its supposed to be a marking tool. Still looks good, Orion revolutionized the electric motor industry with their V2 endbells and angled brushes, it looks their about ready to do the same with nitro. Cool stuff!

To me it’s just a lot of hype. It has a few good ideas, but they don’t necessarily mean more power, or more efficiency. ANd they will mean a bigger prise tag.

it definitely makes me think - why didn't someone think of this earlier?!

it will definitely make more power with the angled crank acting like a compressor. The example they showed made perfect sense and the fuel will be accelerated out of the crank with it being angled. Its definitely revolutionary and they did their homework. Taking advantage of the centrifugal force of the crankshaft to compress and add more power is genious.

This looks like it will be a wicked fast engine. Even if some of these new ideas dont make much more power it looks like it is a top notch engine. The porting on it looks wild, very nice contours, should be very smooth at high RPM. I would think this will be able to rev very high compared to a regular engine. I'll be waiting for the big block to come out!

You can have all the pretty, and smooth cuts you want, but if port timing, port duration and port angles arent right, it doesnt mean anything. About the cuts in the bottom of the sleeve, those will warp with the heating and cooling of the engine.

Wow!
I don't know if it will work or not but presentation is at the higher level.
it's good to see that someone is still thinking on innovation for the old good 2 stroke engine

In our engines the fuel mixture is transported int the combustion chamber by negative pressure (vacuum) rather than by pressure. If you put pressure into the crankcase, flow will be diverted (simply said, they mixture doesn't know where to go).

I don't think it'll work.

I've heard of dyno data comparable to a stock JP engine.

Price tag is suposed to be between 250 and 300 bucks

Nice video but track test is something we want to see. Not sure if the slot on sleeve is a good idea. Hopefully the crack won't happen there... it can be a big mess if something happen there.

If this engine does what they say it will, then it could change nitro racing for good and kill the sales of most of the other engine company's. Orion did the same thing in electric racing with the V2 end bell motors, if you go to almost
any club meeting at least 85% of motors in use are of the V2 type !!!
Before the V2 motors came out all the 'hype' said that you could run the motors from 3 to 6 'meetings' before you would ever need to skim or change the brushes ??? Geuss what , it was true !!!!!!!

Looks pretty sweet to me I have never run nitro because of all the tuning hassles but this may bring me to the darkside.

Taking energy from the rotating crankshaft and putting it into the fuel by raising the mixture pressure will slow the engine. Hopefully the increase in mixture pressure will boost the output power and more than overcome that deficit. I wonder how the balancing is achieved with all that mass removed off-axis from the crankshaft centre. I think it looks like it has some great ideas, I really hope they work. I am not sure about those cuts in the sleeve, stress concentrations if ever I saw them!

When their WASP .28 first came out, it sounded so promising but it became a garbage in the real world. The success of V2 electric motors doesn't mean they can do the same in the nitro world. WASP series disappointed a lot of people already...
