When it comes to setting new standards in the RC industry, it is always XRAY who has been at the top bringing new and innovative engineering ideas and solutions, raising the bar and always quickly becoming a new market standard for others to follow. Now XRAY does it again! For 2006, XRAY brings a completely new approach to chassis and car setup and adjustment. XRAY is proud to introduce their self-developed, designed, and engineered XRAY Multi-Flex Technology* - MFT* (XRAY patent).
Using one chassis and one top deck you can set up and adjust the T2 for almost all different racing conditions. No matter if you drive on asphalt or carpet, using rubber or foam tires, thanks to MFT* you can get the most out of your T2 without changing to different chassis plates or top decks.
With the MFT* chassis and top deck you can easily adjust the T2 to three different flex characteristics soft, medium, stiff or anywhere in between to best suit your track conditions.
The new ultra-light bulkheads are CNC-machined from premium Swiss T6 7075. All the edges are manually chamfered to provide luxurious attention to detail. The newly redesigned bulkheads have a split design which enables extra-easy access to front and rear differentials and middle layshaft. Exchanging the diffs or spur gear has never been easier! As with previous XRAY cars, both front and rear bulkheads feature integrated belt tension adjustment. All ball-bearings turn in composite hubs to decrease friction and improve drivetrain efficiency. The bulkheads are strategically machined to reduce unnecessary weight without compromising strength. A new aluminium brace joins the rear bulkheads to strengthen the entire rear bulkhead assembly.
The T2 chassis is the worlds narrowest touring car chassis ever made, at only 104mmin width!
The ultra-narrow chassis has been optimized for weight distribution with all electronics and batteries positioned as close as possible to the centerline of the car.
An inline 6-cell battery pack sits on the right side of the chassis. Composite battery slots ensure the batteries stay in the place.
The chassis features MFT* milled slots which are used to adjust chassis torsion and flex.
Optional Battery Holder
As a PRO-level car, the T2 uses tape to hold the batteries to the chassis to reduce unnecessary weight. However, the chassis features holes for an optional graphite battery strap which features the XRAY Smart Battery Holder System*. The aluminum capture wheel will enable you to easily attach the battery strap without any clips. Easy, smart and quick.
New Top Deck
The all-in-one top deck is a piece of engineering artwork in itself. After many months of extensive testing, dozens of different top deck layouts, designs and styles, the world-class XRAY Engineering Team brings the most optimized and highest-performance top deck ever designed for a touring car. Invented and developed by XRAY, of course.
The top deck features MFT* milled slots for very easy and fast top deck flex adjustment. By removing or adding screws you can easily adjust the stiffness of the top deck from very soft (for rubber tire racing) to very stiff (a must have for foam tire racing). For enhanced top deck stiffness setting you can add or remove the included aluminum stands, front and rear.
The rear separate top deck mount is mounted to the top of the bulkheads and holds the middle layshaft, allowing for extremely fast and easy access to the spur gear.
XRAY Quick Roll-Centers*
Another new XRAY innovation XRAY Quick Roll-Centers* makes setup procedure much easier and faster. Front and rear shock towers feature 4 pre-set optimized roll center positions. Using eccentric aluminum roll center holders you can easily choose one of the 4 quick roll-center positions. Easy, smart, and quick.
The smart and innovative design of the chassis, connected via aluminum stands keyed to the top deck, prevents the chassis from becoming tweaked during a crash, guaranteeing that the car remains straight and tweak-free all the time. This means you can concentrate on racing and not on trimming the car on the track.
The ultra-efficient drivetrain from the coveted T1FK05 has been carried over into the T2 ; this drivetrain was considered and proved to be the most efficient and effective electric touring car drivetrain system. The in-line, super-efficient twin-belt drivetrain features oversized pulleys with optimum 1.7 internal ratio. The race-proven pulleys and drive belts have been carried over from the T1 and the super-efficient 20T middle shaft pulley guarantees the best belt wrapping and highly efficient drivetrain.
New Middle Layshaft
The new aluminum layshaft is strategically CNC-machined to reduce rotating weight to a minimum without compromising strength or integrity. The layshaft is hollow, and perfectly round with zero runout, eliminating driveline vibration and produce a positive balance. Composite 20T pulleys key to the layshaft.
All-new Suspension Geometry
From the new narrow arms, through the tiny front and rear suspension blocks, to the smaller more robust steering blocks, everything is new on the T2 suspension. The all-new suspension features improved and redesigned geometry providing more responsive racing characteristics in all racing conditions. Over the years XRAY has gained and successfully utilized extensive suspension geometry knowledge and self-developed suspension stiffness technology, which have now culminated in the all-new T2 suspension parts. The ultra-lightweight suspension parts are molded from special composite material that makes the parts very light yet very durable to withstand the rigors of high-performance racing.
The steering blocks and rear uprights feature tiny 5x10 ball-bearings, thus reducing unsprung weight to the minimum. The steering blocks feature two Ackermann positions.
All-new Suspension Geometry
The rear uprights feature an integrated 1° outboard toe-in. XRAY offers two different roll center positions on the rear uprights, and the new mounting positions have been optimized based on the extensive geometry setup knowledge. Roll centers are easily adjusted by adding shims between the upright and turnbuckle ball joint.
The new suspension arms have been designed to fit both narrow wheels for rubber tires, as well as wide wheels for foam tires; no more hand-fitting or modification one arm fits all!
To work with the new XRAY Quick Roll Centers*, attention was turned to the front and rear for a new design. The shock towers feature even more optimized shock mounting positions and new Quick Roll Center* positions. The all-in-one front shock tower has been optimized to be used with rubber or foam tires.
The new front and rear shock towers are made from thick 3mm graphite material to guarantee maximum strength and long life.
XRAY Suspension Holders:
The T2 uses smart suspension holders. The aluminum inserts in the composite holders guarantee that geometry and setup will not change and will be retained even after a heavy crash.
There are three different suspension composite holders which enable easy roll center setup. The standard suspension holder features 0mm roll center, and the two eccentric suspension holders will raise or lower the roll center by 0.75mm
The smart XRAY geometry uses variable shims between the bulkheads and suspension holders which enable easy rear toe-in adjustment. However, you can easily remove the shims which will narrow the suspension, and then add wheel offset shims to reclaim track-width especially great feature for foam tires racing.
The T2 features the famous XRAY Multi-Diff*, an XRAY innovation and patent. This unique front diff has three different settings: one-way / one-way solid / full time solid axle. You can easily set the Multi-Diff* as a standard one-way, or lock the one-way outdrives so both left and right outdrives turn together as a solid axle, or finally fully lock the Multi-Diff* so it works as a full-time solid axle (spool).
The specially-lightened one-way outdrives manufactured from Hudy Spring Steel have a hex slot on the inside ends. A lightweight hex-axle is inserted into both one-way outdrives to lock them together and create a solid one-way, which means both outdrives will freely turn as one-way, but both at the same time, thus creating a solid one-way.
To create a full-time solid axle, a pin is inserted through the outer aluminum body of the Multi-Diff* and the inner hex-axle, locking the outdrives to the main outer axle, thus creating a full-time solid axle.
Adjustable Steering Bell-crank
An adjustable position steering bell-crank is used to change steering Ackermann settings. By turning a pair of composite eccentric bushings in the chassis and top deck, you can move the complete assembly forward or backward. The steering servo saver features an optimized steering link position.
Even the XRAY shocks have undergone a facelift! The shock bodies, shock rods, and shock ball joints were shortened to provide improved movement characteristics to improve the handling of the T2.
The external-adjustable mechanism has been retained in these new shocks. Without disassembling the shocks and changing pistons, you can easily adjust the shock damping to 4 different damping settings. The threaded bodies enable easy ride height adjustment.
The new shocks now feature foam membrane inserts for even greater shocks operation. The new shorter ball joints are now available separately for easy servicing.
The all-new T2 drive shafts remain as with previous driveshafts used on the T1 platform the worlds tiniest yet most durable driveshafts used on electric touring car. These premium driveshafts have been exclusively manufactured from special world-renowned, top-secret, self-developed Hudy Spring Steel*. The driveshafts have been strategically lightened see the hollow end of the dogbone to guarantee the lowest possible weight without compromising strength or durability. This specially-lightened driveshaft is possible to manufacture only from special Hudy Spring Steel* which was developed for extreme racing conditions. The driveshafts have been additionally hand ground for maximum accuracy and to provide true rotation and unbinding drivetrain operation.
The new lightweight constant velocity universal drive shafts are easily rebuildable. Low-friction drive clips are used on the end of drive shafts to minimize wear thus guaranteeing highest value and minimizing servicing costs.
With touring cars, especially the T2, capable of attaining very high speeds, the updated and redesigned body posts were beefed-up to 6mm thickness. These new body posts are now thicker than previous body posts and they are made from brand new special composite material that provides maximum strength but sufficient flex to reduce body post breakage to a very low amount, even when you flip the car on its hood.
The body supports are now rounded to have a better fit and provide better support to the car body.
