Team Orion/GP4300 cells

Press release:

Team Orion and GP Batteries are pleased to announce the introduction of the GP4300 - an all-new super cell designed for maximum performance for hardcore racers as well as hobbyists.

A full 4300 mAh capacity extends run times while Team Orion’s V-Max Plus RDS voltage enhancement and testing methods increase voltage, lower internal resistance, and allow precision cell matching. These cells are the best GP and Team Orion can offer for 1/12 scale, 23 turn eight minute racing, and all high current drain 5-minute motor classes. In fact, all applications will benefit for the extra performance these cells deliver.

Testing indicates that Team Orion’s GP4300 is the best battery for extensive high discharge conditions due to the enormous capacity. Resistance to fading and a very consistent high voltage discharge curve are additional attributes that make Team Orion’s GP4300 the battery for the future.

Charge techniques and cycle life are similar to the GP3300/3700 series guaranteeing outstanding performance over extended periods of time.

ORI11047 GP4300 Single Cell $9.99

ORI11309 GP4300 V-Max SPEC 6-cell $79.99

ORI11461 GP4300 V-Max Plus RDS Racer 6-cell $89.99

ORI11462 GP4300 V-Max Plus RDS Team 6-cell $99.99

ORI11465 GP4300 V-Max Plus RDS Racer 4-cell $59.99

ORI11466 GP4300 V-Max Plus RDS Team 4-cell $69.99

The funny thing for these cells is we still need to stick with 5A charging (recommended). Remember 4A for old SCR1200 in old days? Approximately 16-18mins for those old cells. Now 5A for 4300mAh? Close to 50 mins to fully charge a deep discharged pack!!! That means longer charging time = one (or two) more charger is needed. Of course, 8A can be used but not safe enough... I hope manufacturers can improve this area.

I Would Rather Have This

does this ever stop! i will just wait next year on a 10,000mah battery (25.00 a cell) not have to worry about charging/discharging just one race day on a single charge.LOL

Sorry, did I miss read something? I didnt see anything about a max charger rate of 5A on the first post...?

Anyway, even if they did say 5A max, why follow that rule? Whats to stop you just whacking in 8 odd amps? Cant do much harm can it...?

Duane.

You can charge at 8 amps, but you get less life out of the batteries, but gain more "punch" and performance.

Give it time, and they will come. That 10 bucks a cell is probably MSRP. So in reality, it's probably 7 bucks a cell (non matched). And eventually, when 4500mahs come out for example, the price will fall even more. WEEE!

Has anything been released as to the size of the new cells? I know that the GP3700's are a little bit wider around than the GP3300's. (I had to file the battery slots a little on my pan car to seat the 3700's a little lower on the chassis).

All these new batteries are great. Even though they aren't legal for racing (yet), I love the extended runtimes for doing practice laps at the track

Sweet. I wonder how these will stack up to all the latest IB's?

I guess I'm not worried about longer charge times. Sure a 1500 mAh pack will only take 20 minutes or whatever to charge, but when you factor in the time it takes to switch packs in and out I'd rather just wait longer for the pack to charge, then run nonstop for...20 minutes or so. Call me crazy, but I've gotten 25 minute runs with GP3300's, a Stampede, and an SS5800 system. Sure I wasn't going WOT the whole time because I was just bashing...but nonetheless I was impressed. I can't wait to pick up a new pack or two this summer.

The battery technology war heats up again... 2 major brands fight for the glory just like "Michelin vs Bridgestone" in F1. Hopefully Sanyo and Panasonic make a comeback so we can see 10,000mAh Sub-C cell sooner.

With these new high capacity batteries they should go to 7 min qual and mains. They could do 2 qual and a main in less time then 4 five min rounds and actually get more track time.

Race days already run very long..qualifiers will most likely stay the same. What we might see are longer mains.

All these quick advances in NIMH battery technology are really impressive.

As if race days are not long enough....

Anyone want to place a bet on who they think will come out with the next even higher capacity battery?
