HPI Savage X

Thank you everyone who emailed me with Savage X info, sorry to keep you waiting! Here's a little blurb from HPI, but ya gots to go to the site for the whole story. Way super dope, indeed.

www.hpiracing.com

The most popular Big Block monster truck in the world just got better! At each evolutionary step, the Savage has been improved upon to keep it at the peak of the RC monster truck field. So how do you make a Savage better? eXtra speed, eXtra adjustability, eXtra toughness! The new Savage X is packed with features that have been suggested by Savage owners: More room for the electronics, easier access to the diffs and transmission, and more suspension adjustability. The result is the best Savage ever.

Now the main gearbox is easier to reach as well as the radio box. Overall many areas have been improved... but why only 5mm lower? Save something for next Savage? Anyway, I think there will be a conversion kit to upgrade our Savages. HPI guys know how to make bucks!

So where does this fit in the Savage line? Is it an upgrade from the 25 l.e., or replacement for the 4.6?
Can we hope for an "SS" version in KIT form?

This Savage X is going to replace Savage 25 RTR. Yes, it will be in RTR form. Savage SS 4.6 (#871) still in the line. We can see this new Savage X in form of "SS" in the near future. The part number of next SS will be #874.

Man HPI really milking this thing whats this about the 8th different version lost count. Will it go to the Y then Z version before they finally make a "NEW" monster truck. Even traxxas stopped at 4 maxx versions then came out w/revo but this is getting ridiculous.

I dont know traxxas is just as bad when it comes to naming the maxxes.

There have been quite a few revisions to the standard RTR kit, such as 4-gear diffs, bell crank steering...

Limited edition means that it is limited in production and there for will be discontinued.

Why get rid of such a quality product? The Savage is one of the best trucks on the market, far and away the best at some things. Why throw all of that away? Unlike Traxxas, HPI has steadily refined the Savage, keeping pace with the best the market has to offer. Traxxas made people wait like 3 years for the 2.5 T-Maxx, and it still didn't fix any of the Maxx's durability problems. Sure it was faster and wider, but it was just as fragile, so it wasn't much more useful, was it?

Crap man the savage is a BASHER!!! Why the hell do we need lower cg, lightweight suspension arms, and more shock mounting positions???!!! The whole reason why the savage is so popular is that it's so indestructable. And the reason behind it being so tough is that all the parts key into each other. Sure it makes dissasembling longer, but every piece is structurally supported by the next one. What's the point of coming out with a "racing" savage right after the hellfire anyways..? Racing is taking over the hobby for people who just wanna have fun...

Just my 2 cents

I agree with all that. As long as they can offer more features without scrificing strength its all good.

I'm all for ease of maintenance. I've pulled my Savage entirely apart several times. Getting to those diffs is a pain. Quick access is a great thing and would encourage more regular maintenance, at least for me. I'll definitely be ordering a few of the parts to put on my SS 4.6. Can't wait!

Here's the list of upgrades you could do to your 21,25,SS and 4.6 to get X status.

Compatibility!
Careful attention has been paid to maintain the tradition of Savage aftermarket support. Most of the new Savage X features are compatible with the long list of Savage aftermarket parts already available, and older Savage trucks can be upgraded to most of the exciting new parts found on the Savage X.

Savage X parts that will fit on past Savage trucks:
Transmission Case (easier to remove)
Differential Housings* (front and rear)(easier to remove)
Shock Towers (additional shock locations)
Suspension Arms (lighter)
Radio Box (easier access)
Slipper Clutch (dual pads plus rubber dampening)
Savage X Chassis Plates* (lowered CG)
F4.1 Engine
* May require a few extra parts for conversion

Parts carried over from past Savage trucks:
Internal Differentials
Internal Transmission
Dogbones
Driveshafts
Brake
Axles
Exhaust
Uprights
C Hubs
Body Posts
Body Position
Engine Mount & Plate
Servo Saver
Shocks and Springs

Savage X parts that will NOT fit on past Savage trucks:
Alloy Roll Hoop
Spur Gears (hardened steel gears will fit with new inner hub)
Polycarbonate Receiver Cover
