HPI Wheely King solid-axle EP monster truck

Latest from www.hpiracing.com

Have you ever experienced the excitement of a monster truck rally? Here's your chance to bring that excitement home! HPI is proud to announce the release of our newest addition to our electric monster truck line, The Wheely King! As the name would imply the Wheely King is designed with the wheelie in mind, perfect wheelie-tuned weight distribution and rear wheelie bar allows you to pull an all day wheelie and also bash with the best of them.

Realistic looks add to the monster truck experience with features like Tough TVP (Twin Vertical Plate) chassis with tube frame design. Front and rear solid axles with pivot arms and center gear box also add to the realistic driving experience and scale looks. Included in the package are realistic chrome wheels and new 5.4" Mud Thrasher tires, and an adjustable design that makes mounting your choice of bodies quick and easy. The 1/12th scale size of the Wheely King is perfectly suited for the back yard basher with features such as 4 long stroke oil-filled shocks and coil springs with 6" of suspension travel for all-terrain driving, adjustable gear mesh that allows a variety of gear ratios, flexible drivetrain layout allows for the use of all popular 7.2 volt batteries and 540 size motors. The simple and durable design of the Wheely King allows for ease of maintenance and the ability to soak up almost any kind of abuse you can throw at it.

Highlights

looks like the only thing that you can really do with this is wheelies and flip over while doing semi-sharp turns at low speeds.

1/12th scale as well....

* sigh*...another gimmic, but it doesnt look worth a hill of beans for anything but wheelies and mock car crushing...as xfusion stated.

I dunno. I thought the point was to keep the wheels on the ground. Maybe thats just the racer in me talking.

The chassis is kinda remind me of the Tamiya Trail Master, which is also a 2wd truck.

Looks like HPI is trying to sqeeze in on the Stampedes market. Altough the 'Pede is considered 1/10 scale they look really close in size. The new XL-5 'Pede is also tough to keep the front wheels down.

That steering link would break before you had a chance to kill the first battery pack.

fastharry, it must have been a big flop... you still remember it. I think the whole reason for having a basher is to bash it. If you drove the wild willy or bolink little red wagon normal, you could maneuver it where ever you wanted to go. It would only pull wheelies when you gassed it. I would have to believe that this will operate the same way. The big difference is that the HPI will be able to be converted to 4wd/4ws whereas it takes too much time and money to do so with a stampede. I think that the market can support many new products as long as they are an improvement on an old idea or it becomes something that you absolutely have to have. I for one will absolutely have to have a 4wd/4ws solid axle basher that doesn't put the servo on the axle for steering, has parts support and can be modified and configured to make it fun to run. I would suspect that might be what HPI is thinking about.

My only concern if this is made into 4wd. How much do you need to gear down just not to overload the single stock motor and esc. Maybe thats the reason they released it 2wd only.

Since it has enough power to pull wheelies on command, I would assume it would safely turn the other two wheels without much more load since it is already having to move them anyway. As far as releasing as a 2WD for now, it is nothing short of a marketing gimmick called "S-Maxx" - "Oh and by the way, for another $100 or so you can convert to 4WD and 4WS", and maybe even the two speed tranny that wouldn't be too hard to add.

^ True. In the end, The S-Maxx with all the upgrades is worth MORE than the T-Maxx, lol.

I agree if they come out with the 4wd/st option..or if this is a pre runner to a crawler...

I just bought an XL-5 Stampede this past August, so I will not be getting one of these, but it looks like a bunch of fun. True bashing, like awnelson stated, is great fun. Wheelies can be had, but only if you want them, so steering is still acceptable. I hope this jumps well, though. Independent suspension tends to make it easier to absorb impacts, while straight-axle trucks like my TXT-1 tend to be a little harsher. This is definitely different, though! Good job, HPI, I just want to see it run.

Sorry, my bad. It will cost more.

Knowing HPI, they will release a build it yourself version (I hope). I dont know if I missed it, anyone with info about the specs of the jolt esc?

and how is this thing going to be a good basher(climber,etc..as it shows on HPI's web site),when it's designed for WHEELIES?....

I can't believe this...it makes more sense to make toys than race cars?...
