Tamiya Nitrage Truggy

FROM TAMIYA USA:

Introducing Tamiya’s new 1/8 R/C Truggy, the Nitrage. This high-performance Ready-To-Run model is packed with innovative features that no other machine in its class has. Modular construction means effortless assembly and convenient maintenance, with all the internal components mounted on a high-strength, press-molded aluminum deck. Servos are directly connected to the fully-enclosed gearboxes to ensure consistently smooth operation and minimal interference.
4-wheel independent suspension with large oil dampers, aluminum slipper clutch, and high-density spike tires mounted on large dish wheels lets it tackle any terrain with ease. The aggressive body and distinctive rear wing matches the “Nitro Rage” image perfectly and will make it the instant center of attention wherever it goes.
Image shows prototype

POWER AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
The Nitrage is equipped with the formidable FR-32FX 5.2cc engine that features a large diameter slide carburetor, 14mm diameter crank shaft, lightweight piston, and large heat sink head. The FR-32FX is matched with a 150cc large capacity fuel tank to provide ample driving endurance. Powered by this monster engine, the Nitrage with standard 1-speed transmission is capable of speeds of up to 60km/hr (approx. 37mph)!

Engine Specs: 5.24cc displacement, 20.1mm bore, 16.5mm stroke, 5000-33000rpm range, rear exhaust.

MODULAR CONSTRUCTION
Off-road racing often means dirt and grime accumulating on the vehicle and interfering with maintenance, to say nothing of all the work you have to do to clean up afterwards. Our designers took this into account when creating the Nitrage and separated the vehicle into 5 major components: Front Gearbox (with steering servo and front suspension), Center Gearbox (with throttle servo and disc brake), Mechanics Box (with fail safe equipped receiver), Engine with
Fuel Tank, and Rear Gearbox (with rear suspension and wing). Each of these can be individually removed from the chassis for easy maintenance and cleaning. All 5 components rest on a special high-strength aluminum deck, a pioneering feature for this class that was press-molded to ensure structural rigidity.

ALL GEARS FULLY ENCLOSED
Tamiya is the first to bring this special feature to the R/C world. Even the connection between the engine clutch bell and the spur gear are completely enclosed and protected from outside interference. As a result, all gears have constant stable lubrication and gear backlash is contained by the gear case. This means the Nitrage does not need to resort to using any heavy and expensive steel gear parts, giving fans more modification flexibility.
Furthermore, the differential gear on the Nitrage is doubly protected, first by its own durable case and then by a second enclosure formed around it by the front and rear gearboxes. This setup insulates the differential gear to prevent the suspension arms and shock towers from imparting stress on it (this is the problem with most makers’ truggy differential gears).

EFFICIENT POWER TRANSMISSION
The Nitrage is equipped with the R/C world’s first flexible joint drive system, with the spur gear having a short dog bone linkage to the clutch bell, which helps reduce stress on the engine. A durable lightweight aluminum slipper clutch to improve transmission efficiency is also included, which is another first in this class.

WIDE-SPAN FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER ARM
Truggies from other makers usually feature upper I arms for the front suspension, which offer flexibility but are lacking in structural strength. The Nitrage has specially designed upper A arms for the front suspension that allow flexible suspension travel without sacrificing strength.

WHEELS & TIRES
Colossal off-road tires with inner sponge feature an oval spike tread pattern that is perfect for driving on rough surfaces. Tires are mounted on large diameter dish wheels.

DISTINCTIVE REAR WING
The large rear wing on the Nitrage is a double-split design inspired by those equipped on actual WRC cars. Catch pin attachment means the upper surface of the wing remains flat, adding to its stylish appearance. Since the wing is connected to the chassis and not the body shell, it clearly distinguishes the Nitrage as a Tamiya product even when the body is removed. Nitrage with Body Removed

FOR ADDED CONVENIENCE AND INSTANT ACTION
The Nitrage features universal screw heads for most of its screws, which means all you need is the 2.5mm Hex Wrench to attach and remove them, making maintenance even more speedy (Note that there may be a few screws that require a 1.5mm or 2mm Hex Wrench). Tamiya Handy Starter and Glow Plug Heater are included for easy engine starts even for beginners
(Handy Starter requires 7.2V battery pack, sold separately).
ADSPEC GP 2-channel transmitter and TRU-03 receiver with fail safe device are included.

OPTION PARTS AVAILABLE SOON!
Both performance-enhancing and cosmetic Option Parts are planned for release in the near future. Keep an eye out especially for announcements of the 2-speed transmission that will increase top speed to 80km/hr (approx. 50mph) and powerful twin disc brakes.

SEPARATELY REQUIRED ITEMS
- 7.2V Ni-Cd battery and battery charger for Handy Starter.
- 12 LR6/AA/UM3 alkaline batteries for transmitter and receiver
- 1 LR14/C/UM2 alkaline battery for glow plug heater
- Glow Engine Fuel and Fuel Filler

MAKE NO MISTAKE
While the Nitrage shares the same 5.2cc engine and wheels/tires with the TNX 5.2R, they are only cosmetic similarities. This is a brand new chassis with a unique layout that has been designed specifically for off-road racing. Its lower ride-height means a lower center-of-gravity, giving the Nitrage superb cornering performance. Take a look at the pictures below to see the difference for yourself (TNX 5.2R on the left, Nitrage 5.2 on the right).

Way to go!

Ohhhh Myyyyy Gawd! Tamiya just won't go quietly into the night. Isn't it awesome how the so-called "beginner class R/C" company has been innovating lately? I just drove my buddies Tamiya Sand Viper, and while its no B4 or XXX buggy, I was impressed. Way to go Tamiya! (Yes, I want one of these!!! )

Flexible joint drive system

That flexible joint drive system looks trick with the short dogbone between the engine and tranny. This setup eliminates the possibility of screwing up the gear mesh between the clutchbell and spur gear and the gears are now protected from dirt and small stones, unlike other nitro vehicles…nice innovation.

I wish it would be sooner than later! I'd really like to see a 1/10 scale electric truggy so you can use a Mamba Max in it!

That's the first thing that popped into my head !!! I just bought a Tamiya Dark Impact (1/10 4wd buggy) and am very impressed. Tamiya sure has come out with some good "race-class" stuff lately. I like how they are focusing on "ease of service" , "cleaning", and "durability".

Tamiya needs to get rid of those 14mm wheel hexes, and replace them with either 17mm or 23mm ones. I'm sure that's one of the hopups that they'll be offering.

very nice looking, only one gripe: That radio. It's common, but VERY basic. It's been adopted by OFNA, JAMMIN, DURATRAX, and now TAMIYA fell into the hole..... I guess a "pro verson" is in the wings as well!

Looks like it'd be easy to convert as long as you could find room for the batteries somewhere.Maybe use a drive cup off something as the motor outdrive and it'd key right in there.
