Associated's Maifield, J-Concepts' Cavalieri Dominate Cactus Classic
Team Associated’s Ryan Maifield set the pace during qualifying in both Modified Truck and Modified 2WD with LRP’s latest brushless technology. His teammate Ryan Cavalieri TQ’d Mod 4WD with his Team Orion brushed-powered J-Concepts BJ4. The two teammates traded paint in just about every one of the 2WD and Truck triple A-mains. As they say, “You could have thrown a blanket over them”, because the racing was so close. In 4WD, Cavalieri had his work cut out for him after the first A-main, in which he broke. Yokomo’s 14-time World Champ Masami Hirosaka took the win in A1, but in A2 and A3 it was all Cavalieri. Masami wasn’t the only international superstar racing, as many European and Japanese racers made the trip to the Cactus Classic, which was dubbed the world’s warm-up. Check out the next issue of Car Action for a full race report.
Modified Truck Winners: 1) Ryan Maifield 2) Ryan Cavalieri 3) Jesse Robbers
Modified 4WD Winners: 1) Ryan Cavalieri 2) Masami Hirosaka 3) Ryan Maifield
Modified 2WD Winners: 1) Ryan Maifield 2) Ryan Cavalieri 3) Jesse Robbers
Track owners Sean and Dawn Sanchez did an awesome job with their first Cactus Classic.
Jimmy Babcock ran a smooth race program. His commentary of the races was broadcast over the web. Hundreds or racers tuned in to root for their favorites. Who is that "neck" in the background?
In the quad, racers could double-double or grab and handful and go big. Jesse Robbers was one of the gusty drivers who made up time jumping the entire section. Maifield was pretty dialed through the quad all weekend too.

More Photos
Here are the rest of the winners...and some other random shots.
2WD 19-turn winners (winner Scott Spears)
2WD Stock winners (winner: Kyle Boice)
Truck 19-turn winners (winner: Jeremy Fellas)
Truck Old-Dude winners (winner: Bill Cook)
Truck Stock winners (winner: Ryan Dunford)
Jeremy Fellas said he would bust a few cartwheels if he won...and he won!
This wasn't the first race Jared Tebo showed up to with a motocross injury. He hopped around all weekend, while his dedicated wife marshaled for him.

You could say the racing action was close. The two Ryan's put on another show!

more pictures
...they battled in 2WD too.
In stock truck, Kyle Boice and Ryan Dunford had a mean battle.
Scott White of Banzai Motorsports had five trucks in the 19-turn A mains. Although he has been around for years, his motors are becoming the racers' choice!
The Team Associated pits.
This shot is for you, Casper.

Nice photos, Jason! This was really, really a great event. The SRS crew and Jimmy Babcock did an outstanding job of making this the most well run, professional electric race I've ever attended. Keep up the great work. Kyle, Ashley and I will see you all next year for the 2008 Cactus Classic.

Thats his game face. It is scaring the rest of the competition! It worked pretty good as well since Banzai was able to TQ and win 3 out of 4 open classes this year!

Hello everyone,
Dawn and I want to thank all of you that attended. It was such a pleasure to meet the people that make this race so great. We hope to see all of you next year! I especailly want to thank Jimmy, he was awesome as usual. He will be here again next year as well and Live Rc will also be back for those who cannot make it out, they can still be able to interact with the race.
Jason, it was great to meet you. The pics are awesome. Can't wait for the writeup.

Does anyone know what brushless motor turn Maifield chose for the classes? It would be interesting to see what the pros choose for buggy, ST, AND 4-wheel. Everyone acts like they need a 3.5 around here. Their cars are FAST on the strait, until they stand up and wheelie at 30+ and flip backwards or overshoot a double by 10 feet and break.

Who wants a 3.5 (Novak) on off-road? The top racers at the Farm last month used 5.5 Novaks and Plettenberg Exteme motors in the 20 minute electric race.
I would say they were using the new LRP Vector X11 6.5 or 5.5 turn in the stadium trucks that I see the only problem with them is they are using bonded rotors in them compared to the only motor LRP came out with a sintered rotor is the 4.5 motor.
Since Novak went to the sintered rotor, I would not have touched it for a 20 minute main like we run! LRP will hopefully wise up and make it standard in all the motors to have a sintered rotor.
