Novak XBR Sport Brushless/Brush Speed Controls

#1720 XBR Sport Brushless/Brush ESC
#3030 XBR Sport / EX8.5 Sport Brushless System
#3031 XBR Sport / EX10.5 Sport Brushless System
#3032 XBR Sport / EX13.5 Sport Brushless System

From Novak:
NOVAK’S NEW SPORT ESC IS ANYTHING BUT SPORT, IT’S EXTREME

Novak’s new XBR Sport Brushless/Brush Speed Control is anything but sport. It’s an extreme sport model ESC that allows drivers the ability to put in seemingly endless practice time with the minimal maintenance of brushless, yet it also gives the ultimate performance on race day with a brushed motor.
While the XBR has the word “Sport” in its title, its many high-performance features will dispel any notion that this ESC is for entry-level users only. The XBR is equipped with many of the same, if not better, features of Novak’s top-of-the-line GTX Racing ESC. The XBR even has a lower on-resistance!

NEW NOVAK FEATURES INTRODUCED IN SPORT ESC
The XBR has the distinction of being the first Novak ESC to include two great features new to Novak products. Because the XBR is compatible with both brushless and brushed motors, the first feature is especially ideal. The Auto-Detect Brush Mode detects when a brushed motor is connected, and automatically switches the ESC to its Brush Profile to ensure the system will run at the optimal settings. The next feature to make its debut in a Novak ESC is the Built-in Motor Rotation Selector. This feature enables the user to easily select the direction of the motor rotation. This feature is ideal for vehicles with drivetrains that require the motor to rotate clockwise (rather than its normal counter-clockwise rotation).

PROTECTION FEATURES
The XBR provides the most protection you can get at a sport-level price.
 Water-resistant case to keep out debris and moisture.
 Built-in Li-Po Cut-Off Circuitry, which monitors the vehicle’s Lithium Polymer battery pack’s voltage, and prevents the batteries from going below the critical safety voltage level.
 Locked Rotor Detection Circuitry prevents ESC and motor damage (when used with brushless motor)
 Thermal Overload Protection prevents damage to ESC and when temperatures exceed a safe level
 Built-in power output for an optional accessory fan, which is ideal to utilize especially for the high demands of brushed motor racing.
FOUR PROGRAMMABLE THROTTLE PROFILES
Another XBR feature that breaks the sport mold is its multiple throttle profiles with full programmability, all without the need for a computer laptop. Within each of its four throttle profiles, the XBR has 4 Adjustable Parameters: Minimum Brake, Drag Brake, Dead Band, and Minimum Drive; the brush mode also includes Drive and Brake Frequency adjustability for further throttle customization.

The XBR is equipped with four user-selectable throttle profiles, two of which have reverse:
 Standard Brushless Mode (with reverse)
 Sport Brushless Mode (no reverse)
 Marine Brushless Mode (25% reverse)
 Racing Brush Mode (GTX performance with no reverse)
MOTOR COMPATIBILITY & BRUSHLESS SYSTEMS
The XBR Sport ESC is compatible with both sensored brushless and brush motors, including Novak’s new line of sport brushless motors, the EX-Series (see separate press release), Novak’s Pro Series (SS8.5 Pro, SS10.5 Pro and SS13.5 Pro), and even Novak’s Crawler 18.5T motor. The XBR Sport will be available for purchase separately, or as a combo item with one of Novak’s new EX8.5, EX10.5, or EX13.5 brushless motors. Like all Novak brushless systems, the brushless speed controls and brushless motors are factory-wired and tested together. The XBR Sport/ EX Brushless Systems are “plug and play” straight out of the box.

RETAIL PRICE INFORMATION
 #1720 XBR Sport Brushless/Brush ESC $219
 #3030 XBR Sport / EX8.5 Sport Brushless System $299
 #3031 XBR Sport / EX10.5 Sport Brushless System $299
 #3032 XBR Sport / EX13.5 Sport Brushless System $299
The XBR Sport Brushless/Brush ESC and XBR Sport/EX Brushless Systems will be available May 2007.

This looks pretty good!

I like the new auto detect and motor rotation features.

Looks like Street Price is going to be very nice!
EDIT- Just looked and Tower's has it listed for $179.99

No but it does have some features that the GTB doesn't.

It looks very nice to me though.

Hmm... Is this a SS+ replacement? (Sure looks like it)
It looks to be a great (Budget) Brushless System.
This may be next on my list of Electronic upgrades on my Touring car. (Already have a GTB in my Stadium Truck)

I love my GTB but hate it for not having an internal Lipo cut. I just had to buy a Novak Lipocut because my Cellpro got a little moisture(verry, verry little) in it and took a dump .

Novak has great products and awsome customer service. I have a 4.5, 5.5, and have just bought a 7.5. The 7.5 is the best all around motor of the Velocity series. In my XXX-T geared 87/20 it can get up to about 40+/- MPH. In my T1FK it gets at least 50MPH geared with a 112/30. Both with 2s 6000mah Lipo. And both have more than enough speed with out compromising control. The GTB can also handle 9.25 volts with no problem

If you like to get your moneys worth with excellent customer service Novak is where its at.

Yet another reason why BL is taking off - it's becoming high on features with lipo cut offs and BL or Brushed settings.

One of the reasons I like Novak BL is that they're systems are sensored.

I like it! Especially for these two reasons:

1. LiPo cutoff - I don't run LiPo, but I might someday. This is a great competetive feature.

2. Water resistant case - Because I like being able to run in less-than-perfect conditions. Not the same as waterproof for sure, but still nice.

I'm gonna have to try to smoke my original SS ESC (still going strong)!!

The Auto-Detect Brush Mode detects when a brushed motor is connected, and automatically switches the ESC to its Brush Profile to ensure the system will run at the optimal settings. - that's excellent - reprogramming mine is a chore and a half!

Very nice feature....

All good stuff - keep them coming Novak!

Great!!!

This is a big step for NOVAK.
LiPo's ready to embrace the newer bashers and rebal race classes.
And Sport Packaging to lower the initial cost into the Brushless Setup.
!!!!! $90 Cheaper for the 13.5T and XBR Combo vs. GTB and 13.5T combo!!!

The GTB is great, I own one. But really I didn't buy the GTB to run brushed motors. I already own several much smaller brushed ESC's for that. Added features just add to the cost to benifit from brushless setups.

Just one feature I wish they would add to thier brushless controller lineup.

To run sensored or sensorless motor setup option.
Come on NOVAK...you don't require users to run your BRUSHED motors, so open the door up and let the racer pick what motor they want. This would benifit greatly to the new class that NOVAK has started 13.5T, did anyone else notice that TEKIN is now offering a 13.5T?

Also, I would really enjoy a 30mm x 30mm Fan cover to prevent broken blades.

This is great, I was wondering when somebody would come out with a budget brushless system that is actually worth buying. I my self would never buy one because I run motors faster then that but I think this is great for brushless. In some ways this sounds better then the GTB because several of the guys I race with (I have a LRP Sphere Comp) complain about having to switch to brushed (for what ever reason) and it also has a the lipo cut off.

A sensorless ESC has "extra" stuff inside that a Sensored ESC doesn't need. Thus adding cost. Adding Brushed modes to any BL ESC doesn't add cost, just software time. We would have to add un-needed parts for our ESC to run sensorless motors. You need to basically have the sensors in the ESC to pick up the back EMF from the sensorless motor. We just don't want to go down that road.

Tech@teamnovak.com Thanks for the comments guys. Glad everyone is liking it. and No, I don't know when they will start shipping.

Nice. I hate changing to brushed in the GTB. Way to include lipo cutoff without jacking up the price.

I doubt they will. A new line will mostly come out, or they will just stick with this line.

Hmm? I wonder if this price will drop when they actually get them in stock? This seems to happen frequently on Tower with new items. It would be nice to see a good brushless system in the $150 range.

My HV Maxx system came with a free lipo cutoff, so I'm guessing Novak is doing that to please people until it comes built in. I need to sell mine before that happens...

I think he might meen a fan shroud.

I have busted 2 fans on my GTB because of wires getting cought in the blades or the capacitor beating on it after a jump. A fan shroud would be nice!

Well, I received mine as a Christmas Present this past year, so I'm guessing during the holidays in an effort to attract sales.
