Novak EX Brushless Motors

#3430 EX8.5 Extreme Sport Brushless Motor
#3431 EX10.5 Extreme Sport Brushless Motor
#3432 EX13.5 Extreme Sport Brushless Motor
#3030 XBR Sport / EX8.5 Brushless System
#3031 XBR Sport / EX10.5 Brushless System
#3032 XBR Sport / EX13.5 Brushless System

From Novak:

THE LOW-COST SOLUTION TO UPGRADE TO BRUSHLESS:
NOVAK’S EXTREME SPORT BRUSHLESS MOTORS

Novak’s brushless motor factory is working overtime making new motors. The newest addition to Novak’s brushless motor family is the EX Sport Brushless Motor Series. The budget-friendly sensored brushless motor series is ideal for R/C enthusiasts who have always wanted to join the brushless revolution, but have resisted.
With Novak’s EX-Series brushless motors, the time has come to painlessly make the step up to brushless and personally experience all of the things said about brushless, but just found hard to believe; things like: incredible power and starting torque, minimal maintenance, and longer runtimes.

Novak’s EX-Series Sport brushless motors are available in three motor winds:
 #3430 EX8.5 Extreme Sport Brushless Motor: 8.5 turns; similar to a 15-17-turn mild-modified brush motor
 #3431 EX10.5 Extreme Sport Brushless Motor: 10.5 turns; similar to a 19-turn brush motor
 #3432 EX13.5 Extreme Sport Brushless Motor: 13.5 turns; similar to a 27-turn stock brush motor

SPORT BRUSHLESS MOTOR FEATURES
Novak’s newest motors also sport a new look for a Novak motor and it’s golden. Literally. The EX motors break from Novak’s traditional purple motor sleeve with a new gold one. And while the EX Brushless Motors may be described as “sport” models, they still include all of the great features of a Novak brushless motor like a convenient Solder Tab System for easy wire replacement; Sensor-Based Technology for excellent starting torque, low-speed drivability, and smooth acceleration; Thermal Overload Protection (when used with a Novak brushless ESC) that allows pack after pack to be run without fear of damaging the motor, battery, or ESC; and approximately 20% longer runtimes compared to brushed motors.
A unique feature of all Novak motors is the ability to upgrade or replace various parts. Although deemed a sport model, the EX motors are no exception. Users are able to replace parts like the front end bell/bearing and rear bearing (#5905), as well as the rotor (#5906) if needed, and not simply toss the motor aside. Another option for the user is to upgrade the motor with a motor upgrade kit (#5923) for the pro performance of the SS-Series of motors.

Each EX Sport Brushless Motor is available separately, or in a combo system factory-wired with Novak’s new XBR Sport Brushless ESC (see separate press release). Like all Novak brushless systems, the brushless speed control and brushless motor are factory wired and tested together, and are ready to “plug and play” straight out of the box. The following three XBR Sport / EX Brushless Systems will be available:
 #3030 XBR Sport / EX8.5 Brushless System
 #3031 XBR Sport / EX10.5 Brushless System
 #3032 XBR Sport / EX13.5 Brushless System

ESC COMPATIBILITY
The Extreme Sport Brushless motors are compatible with all Novak brushless ESCs, including:
 #1720 XBR Sport Brushless/Brush ESC
 #1705 Super Sport Plus Brushless/Brush ESC (and original Super Sport Brushless ESC)
 #1710 GTB Programmable Brushless/Brush ESC

Interesting. Glad to see Novak is offering a low cost BL motor just LRP is doing with their Eraser series.

It might be around that price range.

I think that Novak needs to do what Castle does - something like the Castle Link. Can you imagine being able to have a version of the Mamba Max that has all the features, but is also sensored? That'd be pretty sweet.

I am going to have SO much trouble explaining Novak BL motor options to people!!

Can anyone explain what makes these motors slower than the SS series? They are the same number of turns, but lower kV ratings. What is the mechanical difference that causes this lower performance? Different magnet?

Did the original SS motors like the SS5800 have the sintered rotor? I didn't think they did, cause the sintered rotor is an upgrade. But these motors are still slower, aren't they? Sorry...I'm just a bit confused.

So, what would be better in a e-maxx? 2 of these, or one of the HV's?

Well, if tower sticks to that price, I bet they'll sell like hot cakes. If I had the money to spare right now, I'd get the 15-turn version to drop in my evader......

They are just a bit easier to use. Putting wire "through" the hole is difficult for most folks.

The wires holes were often not cleaned out properly, and folks would Drill them out, this is bad as the boards are plated. The tabs are just easier to use when you move motors around or 'rewire' the car.

They probably aren't allowed to do so...

There wouldn't be any reason for them not to be able to. It's like saying that Castle can't use LiPo cutoffs. As far as I know, there is no patent or anything.
