RC Car Action Manufacturers' Cup Race Coverage
It's finally here, the RC Car Action Manufacturers' Cup in beautiful Coeur D' Alene, Idaho. Team Associated's Ryan Maifield, Team Losi's Mike Truhe and I just arrived at the track. It looks bitchen! Jammin Jay Halsey, Gary Guest, Chad Bradley, Rick McCrery and several other racers were trackside while the finishing touches were being done.
Here are some photos so you can see what you missed if you aren't here, or what you'll look forward to racing on, if you made the trip.
The leftside of the track.

The rightside of the track.

The track from the grandstands.

Truhe, Bradley and friend help give size reference to the gigantic double on the back of the track.

Jammin's Gary Guest has been at the track all week practicing. Not exactly, Gary helped prep the track and his gnarly sunburn is proof. In this shot he's spreading sugar in hopes that the track grooves up.

Jammin Jay and Ryan Maifield scope out the track from the drivers' stand.

Sweet layout! I have never seen suger put on a Off-road dirt track before. Is this effective in holding the dirt together? How quickly will it wash away?

Won't the sugar attract hordes of ants and other insects?

So do you wet the track down and let the sugar disolve into the dirt?

Sugar? Just run what ya got, silly.
I race on tracks that make pro's run and hide. I just race what's provided and don't try to make excuses like, "you know, I would get better grip out of my truck if the track was coated in sugar!! Make it happen!"
I'd like to meet the man who found out that sugar helps with traction.....

It doesnt take brainiac hmm granulated crystals provided more traction than smooth dirt particles.
That being said from what ive heard this type of track gets very very abrasive so much so that if you fall on it you will get some road rash.
Frankly if you guys have ever raced on a track with 12 cars and loose dirt you would know that dust sucks, it does nothing but wear everything out twice as fast and get in your eyes and mouth. Tracks need at least water something to make it solid is even better.

You need to have good dirt as a base. It doesn't make bad dirt better for much longer than a few practice rounds.

Thanks Spokane Yamaha!
If it weren't for Spokane Yamaha this brand new 2007 Yamaha YZ 250F wouldn't be up for grabs. Our deal with Suzuki fell through, and Spokane Yamaha stepped up to the plate in a matter of minutes. They put a fresh graphics kit on the bike and it looks sick!

From what I have heard, the sugar will really start to smell bad after a couple of weeks. We found that laundry soap is a lot better. It helps water soak into the dirt better and the dirt holds moisture better.

Maifield TQs First Round of Buggy and Truggy
Team Associated's Ryan Maifield TQed both buggy and truggy the first round of qualifying. Maifield's RC8 looked good and he was certainly the man to beat, as he made a couple mistakes and still TQed. Maifield ran a borrowed MBX5-T in the truggy class.

Kysoho's Peterson TQs Round 2 of Truggy

Relatively unknown, but still very fast, Kyosho's Taylor Petersen TQed round #2 of truggy. Peterson used Werks' new Stubs MT in R300 compound in his qualifier, and his truck was hooked up.

Random shots
Ryan Maifield's RC8 in action. Several locals were stoked "Mansfield" made the trip, as it was the first time they've seen the RC8 up close.

Kortz is always jawing in the pits. Bradley and Truhe get in a few laughs at Kortz's antics.

Taylor James is sporting a new look. He is now running 247 Graphics on both his rides. 247 can print all sorts of colors and their chrome is pretty dope!
Marcus Anzivino gets a little wide to let his teammate and Kyosho team manager, Ryan Lutz, by. Lutz qualified third in round one, but had some trouble in the second round.

Two Cool Cats
Rick and Ryan McCrery are two of coolest guys you'll ever meet. They're genuine, and because of them Jammin has sold a ton of X1 CR kits in the Northwest.

Tebo On Top Again
Jared Tebo admits that he hasn't been racing to his potential in the past couple months. Well, "Rambo" TQed the second round of qualifying with his O'Donnell buggy and says he feels good and confident. He is a former amateur motocross racer, so he knows how to ride a dirtbike if he were to win the Yamaha YZ250F. I think this may be his weekend.
