Kyosho America announces AKA brand

Monday, March 3, 2008 – Kyosho America announces the new AKA brand, which will launch with a line of high-performance 1/8 off-road tires, wheels and inserts. Mark Pavidis and Gil Losi, Jr. are spearheading the design of the new line. Pavidis and Losi, Jr. are responsible for the most successful off-road racing tire designs of the last decade, so the combined knowledge and racing experience of these two RC icons promises some very dynamic, high-performance tires. The launch will include two types of low-profile 1/8 off-road buggy and truck racing tires featuring two different compounds, lightweight and contoured foam inserts, and large-diameter low-profile racing wheels.

The City Block tire is designed for hard to medium-packed surfaces. The two-stage tread features square mini-pins on top of rectangular blocks. The square mini pins are designed for superior grip on a hard-packed, high-traction racing surface. The rectangular blocks underneath the mini pins provide greater tread depth, which is also makes this versatile tire ideal for those times when you drift into the loose dirt.

The I-Beam features a dynamic tread pattern that will perform on just about any off-road track. The large center lugs are well suited for strong acceleration, and the position of the “I-Beam” outer portion of the tread alternates to deliver the ideal balance of acceleration and cornering performance.

The AKA tires include lightweight, long-lasting contoured foam inserts for a more balanced tire and wheel assembly, which will deliver noticeable performance gains over heavy, out of balance inserts. Reducing rotating, unsprung weight in the tire, insert and wheel produces the biggest performance gains over any other weight reduction.

Designing competition-worthy wheels is a black art, and there’s no two people more practiced in the art than Mark Pavidis and Gil Losi, Jr. The knowledge of both is poured into the design of the AKA wheels for the ultimate balance of durability and flex for maximum performance. Both buggy and truck versions of the AKA wheels (available in white and yellow) feature a larger diameter, which reduces sidewall flex to keep more tread on the racing surface for crisp acceleration and steering response.

Pre-mounted AKA tires will be available using the same tires, wheels and inserts that are available separately. That means you can expect to get the same great performance and all you have to do is install them on your vehicle. The tires will be bonded with the highest-quality CA adhesive available to ensure long–lasting adhesion, giving you the peace of mind that your tires will stay glued to the wheels so you can focus on winning!

That's it? I was hoping for a new buggy... or line of engines... or hopups for Kyoshos... or something! Oh well, tires sound cool. If they work I might have to try a set.

Kyosho is for motors. They have Sirio for engines and Orion for electric stuff.

AKA tires will be awesome with Gil and Mark working together!
