Kyosho’s new RB5T electric race truck exclusive studio photos

Kyosho RB5T Prototype Photos

Kyosho has been testing prototypes of their new RB5T electric racing truck. Here are detailed studio photos of the prototype, but technical info is scarce at this time. Here’s what we do no about the truck.

The chassis is an extended version of the RB5 buggy, which will push the truck out to the maximum allowable ROAR legal wheelbase. As you can see the chassis is heavily braced to increase rigidity and the sides are leaned upward to increase ground clearance while cornering.

Like the RB5, the front suspension assembly and business end of the truck are separate structures to make facilitate maintenance. Check out the front body post mount. It’s graphite, but the production units will have molded pieces.

The prototype has a graphite rear shock tower but the production truck will feature molded shock towers. Check out the vertically mounted ball studs for easier roll center adjustment.

The rear suspension arms are obviously prototypes, but the RB5T’s 3-gear transmission with an adjustable ball diff and dual disk slipper clutch will probably be identical to the buggy’s gearbox. No word on the internal gear ratios, which may ultimately be the same as the buggy. Short, low-profile aluminum-body threaded shocks are being tested, but there's no way to know what the truck will include.

The body posts are designed to secure the body closer to the nose section for greater support. Like the buggy, the steering bellcrank will be on the same plane as the steering knuckles to eliminate bump-steer.

The front and rear suspension arms will be longer to increase the truck’s width. The truck will probably feature the same C-hubs, steering knuckles and rear hub carriers for parts compatibility between vehicles.

Here’s another view of the front suspension…

And another view of the rear section of the truck.

That’s all the photos we have for now, but you can expect to see photos of the production truck right here at rccaraction.com

Man... This looks promising. I might be able to talk myself into racing electric this next winter since I'm mad at the other 2 manufacturers of racing-level 2wd trucks... LOL
Only time will tell obviously, but it looks good. Go Kyosho!!!

Looks good. Competition can only increase quality in 2wd truck. What's with the hex adaptor on the front axle though?

The bearings are in the steering arm rather than the wheel, hence the hex adapter--without it, you wouldn't be able to tighten the axle nut!

If the body fits onto those shortie front posts, this is going to be one super-slammed truck. I also like that the body mounts aren't incorporated into the front shock tower. very promising truck, especially when you consider how good the RB5 buggy is. Me likee.

This truck makes me want to race 2WD stadium truck again. I hope Kyosho is quick to release some AKA racing tires for this thing. I have found Kyosho to be among the best at design proper suspension geometry, so this truck should handle.

So what does the RB stand for? I always thought it was Racing Buggy. So it is Racing Buggy 5 Truck?
