Kyosho GX 15 Engine Problem
Hi
I’m having trouble starting my Kyosho GX15 Engine in a Kyosho Fazer, The engine has already been broken in but is very new, Its developed this strange fault prior to it being run.
What happens is there is too much compression in the engine and the pull cord wont retract (or retract really slowly as the piston slowly goes up and down) I thought that the engine might have some sticky oil or gunk in it so I opened it up and cleaned the whole inside, I wasn’t able to take the main shaft out but I cleaned the piston and the pistol sleeve all that – re-oiled it up and reconstructed it and continues to have the same problem.
When I remove the glow plug the piston moves normally, cord retracts acts like normal, soon as the glow plug is screwed back in the piston will move fine untill it reaches the top and then is sucked in place and moves slowly, so sucked in place that the pull cord will not retract.
I just checked it now to try and get it started again, unscrewed the glow plug a bit to see if i could get it to turn over, it seems to ignite fuel fine but doesnt have the force to push the piston down and back up again. I can smell that fuel is being burnt and the exhaust makes a nitro running sound (just 'pop' not a continus pur)
Still a mystery to me as what the problem is!
I thought the piston was seized so I heated it up in the sleeve with a hairdryer till it was moving smoothly. Apart from that I’m at a total loss of what to do!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Common dilema with small block engine, .12 & .15. You just have a hi-pinch engine. when cold. At your home residence it's easy to use a hairdryer. At your track 0r basher run, you can loosen your glowplug one turn, install igniter, and attempt to start. It should be easier to pullstart. Once it starts remove igniter an tighten the glowplug.
Use ARO when you store car for the night. Hi-pinch will get better after 1 gallon of fuel. It is very normal. After running make sure that the piston is at Bottom dead center(BDC)

from what i understand the piston is moving when the starter cord is retracting if that is whats happening then it could be a OWB you should take it out clean and relube it and see if that works

Thanks for a speedy reply guys!
I took the pullstarter off and the backplate off and watched the pistons movements, it seems like it gets stuck at the top but if you turn it hard enough pops back down again, obviously the pull starter doesn't have the force to pull the piston back down.
I'll try heating up the engine with a hairdryer before i try firing it up again.
Last time when i tried to loosen the glow plug i found i had to really unscrew it quite alot to get normal movement out of the piston!
Seems like a stubborn old engine to get started thats for sure!

I have the same engine in the FW05T and am having the same problem. I have repeatedly called Kyosho and have gotten nowhere. I honestly think it is a manufacturing flaw. What's more there is no aftermarket replacement that bolts right in. If anyone has any suggestions my ears are wide open.

First of all, there is no such thing as a "Nitro Fazer" so I'm not exactly sure what vehicle you have...
Second, if your pull start is trying to turn the engine over when it's retracting, something is wrong. The one way bearing is most likely in backwards or seized entirely. The starter should NOT engage the engine when it's releasing back into the backing plate, but should grab firmly when you are pulling on it.

I have the car in the bottom right
http://www.kyosho.com/eng/products/r...roup_id=100011
Kyosho PureTen GP Fazer
The pull start isnt trying to turn the engine over when its retracting, the pullstart is retracting slowly because the piston inside the engine is moving very slowly hence returning the cord very slowly : (
I spoke to my LHS they said that the engine is just new and needs to be broken in more to ease up the compression which will get the engine running smoothly, problem is how can i break the engine in when i cant get it started! fiddlesticks!
I'll try messing around with the needle valves, using recommended settings then adjusting them a bit, see if i cant get the engine to idle.
Cheers once again for your help guys! much appreciated!
