is the t-maxx worth the $400 it costs. does it come in a kit. I HATE RTR'S

they take all the fun out of biulding and maintaining your car . if i wanted a rtr i would go to toys r us . the people that buy rtr ' s arn ' t in it for the hobby , so why waste a kit , a hobbist could own biuld hop up and enjoy .

Go for the Ofna Monster Pirate . Cheaper in the long run and you get the 1 / 8 scale thrill !

Not in it for the hobby ????

What do you think driving these things are a sport ? Just because you dont build a kit does ' nt mean you can ' t mantain it ? This is a great way to get people into our hobby that can ' t or dont know how to hold a screwdriver .

I own rtr ' s and have built kits I still have to maintain both the same way .

Dont be greedy and try to trash anyone who likes or wants a R / C .

hobby???? Yeah but most are in for fun too. I think that all rcs should come in rtr and a kit. For the people who know less or want to get in right away take the rtr. For the more experienced and who have more time to spend kit. I bought a TL01 and a Stampede and now a Hummer. The TL01 was a kit. I built it then took it apart 5 times in 6 months(i had no choice ) and the Stampede was rtr. I took it apart for hop ups. I have motor bearings etc i had to put in. The Hummer I havent got yet but it is on its way. It is a rtr right now because it is used. As soon as I get it I will take it apart. People who buy rtrs are looking for the easy way you think>??? dont get me rong im in it for the fun to and i hav no problem with someone who can build and mantain one. its the people that dont know the diff from the schocks that make me mad. it might be fun but these people dont fix there own cars they take it to the hobby store and say fix this pleese. thats why i hate rtr's so much. but i will also say this everyone has ther own openoin.

I understand what your saying, my bros friend got a T-Maxx and busted it the first day, he brought it to an LHS and it's been sitting in the corner for 2 months now, i told him that i could fix it (he could too it was just a stripped spur gear) but instead he's gonna keep it there till they get the part.

I bought my rustler RTR and i dont think that because i did i'm not in it for the hobby. Not only can i find out whats wrong with the car when something goes wrong but i can disassemble my whole car and still be able to rebuild it without ne ones help, and i have no previous R/C car fixing either, i was running TYCO's till i got the rustler. So if your telling me i'm not into the hobby because i bought my rustler RTR, i'm saying shut yer mouth. That's my 2 cents. :-)

You hate RTR's? Are you going to get a real car that's a kit? I DONT THINK SO. So why are you against RTR's? Its a great way to get people into the hobby. I started off with a RTR and in fact a lot of people did. I wanted to go only RTR for a long time because Losi screwed up my XXT CR in EVERY way possible.

HI,i prefer kits,its more exciting that way,
dont get me wrong cause it was a rtr that
brought me into the r/c world!and i think
rtrs are awsome cause its all their,no searching needed,assembly of a kit offers
me more excitment,but in the long run it
doesnt matter!i get the same enjoyment.
my first r/c was rtr and after about
8-9 years in this hobby i still buy kits&rtrs,heck 1 1/2weeks ago i got a T-MAXX rtr,two days ago i walked out of my LHS
with a FT RC10GT,its not finnished yet,
but it was a kit!
to me its about having with what i got,im
in it for the hobby,regardless!

Humpf why hate rtr? I started off with one so do you hate me to? I started with a nitro hawk then i said o cool and bought a HPI RS4 MT (which you do have to build) and then i got a 4-TEC (rtr), and then finally a T-MAXX. I can build em I had no problem with building cars i just usually want to drive NOW NOW NOW! So dont diss people because they buy rtr and please please start with an electric car.

Am I the only one here with an RTR car who has taken it completely apart and put it back together many times in its useful life? I have a T-Maxx which is a killer RTR kit for the money (and by no means will ever be cheaper than a Monster Pirate in my opinion even with parts breaking - Sorry NitroMan). Once you re-pack the diffs, re-build the shocks, throw in a new engine (they don't last forever), and so on, your RTR kit could have started out as either one, RTR or Kit. And the only reason I take that jab at the MP is because I had one and shredded the rear diff in 10 minutes so nothing is bullet proof. I love the T-Maxx because it is fairly rugged but when parts break they are cheap to replace. So far I have a new $3 spur gear and a $14 gas tank, and a few other things in it that add up to about $20. Not bad for almost 2 gallons of fuel through it!

Nope, I have taken all my Traxxas RTR cars apart to fix, maintain or clean them. Traxxas has manuals that come with the cars that show you how to build them. The exception is, my Nitro Rustler and Nitro 4-Tec. Here, you basically have to lay out the parts as you take them off. Not difficult, just kinda tedious. In my opinion, taking apart an electric R/C is 10 times easier than a nitro. My N4-Tec is really difficult to take apart compared to my NRustler though. A lot of components are stuffed in there quite close together.

look u all you arnt the group with rtrs that makas me mad is the people that dont work on the car them selvs. the people i am talking about are the people that take the car or truck to the hobby shop and have it fixed. they dont even hop it up. i met a kid that didnt even know you could change the moter.

If your local hobby shop can't get a T-Maxx part for 2 months (assuming the truck was purchased there) it's time to get a new hobby shop. Something doesn't jive w/ that story- What part is he missing? I might know where there may be a few spares.

RTRs are definitely cool, but it's criminal for a shop when THEY can't fix what they sell.

sorry i cant spell. moter, motor who cares this aint about me not being able to spell it is about these crazy people ho buy rtrs because they cant fix the dumb crapy rtr they have and my huge beef with them and ther lower than race trucks.

the monster pirate is not cheaper than the maxx. i priced out the monster pirate with a picco .21 engine, (i think tis $199) and a hitec lynx fm radio, and fuel, and filters and stuff, and got $700!!!!!!!!!!!


i only got $430 for the maxx

Yeah BobH, he did purchase it there man, and it was just missing a spur gear thats what makes it a sad story. But now I'm prolly gonna buy his t-maxx since he got it back early september. So there is a bright side, for me at least. (Im getting it for 300 bux Canadian) HEHE.

For the guy that "shreded" his diff. Well, Ofna did have problems with the MP diffs but have had the manufacturer redesign them and they are replacing everyone's free of charge.

Now, the MP kit is 259.99, Picco or Os .21 is 129.99, and a Airtronics low end radio like a Blazer is ~$60.00. You need a high torque servo for steering so that is ~40.00.
So you all that equals ~490.00. So, lets say 500.00 for a great motor, kit, and servo.

The T-Maxx is 379.99. After that crappy TRX .15 blows and you put in the OS or Picco engine you will add another ~145.00. So there goes the savings ~524.00. Not to mention all the plastic that will end up being replace with aluminum anyhow. BTW, the MP is 90% aluminum right out of the box. But for the T-Maxx owners it is called a "hop-up".

You do the math. While I spend my time driving my MP and you spend your time repairing you T. Been there, done that!

Sounds to me like there's some attitude going on here that's unhealthy for the sport! Whether you buy RTR or kit, hop-up or leave stock, maintain/work on it yourself or take it to someone else, race or just have fun; You're all missing the point! Isn't there room in this hobby for all of those types? Or is your idea of R/Cing some sort of "clik" or "fraternity" that only a select few are allowed into? And if so, who decides whether you, or I, or anyone for that matter, measures up? I see that same "us vs them" attitude really hurting alot of other sports, like Off-roading (motorcycles vs. ATVs vs. buggies vs. 4x4s), Boating (Yachts vs. power boats vs. personal watercraft vs. sailboats), etc,etc. All we do is fight among ourselves and make it easier for major opponents like the environmental groups to defeat us, instead of sticking together because of our common likes. Like the old saying goes: United we stand, divided we fall! I say anything that gets people involved in R/C is good!
